Is that Gradius IV PCB a medium-res one or a low-res one, Dave K.?

Nice haul of PCBs you've got there, will they be shown at an upcoming shmupmeet?

There are still plenty of Konami shmup PCBs to aim for like the classic A-Jax PCB, Sexy Parodius, etc.

The PCB is capable of running both 15/24khz. I'm running it in 24khz on my Exceleena and looks fantastic.

I'm slowly getting into Konami boards, so I'm sure you'll see some at the next shmupmeet.

Congrats on the Konami pickups Dave_K. I had a blast with the Gradius games at the shmupmeet. I thought Gradius IV was really impressive on the supergun setup, I can only imagine how good it looks on a 24kHz cab setup.

Nice get drboom! Although I also think Strahl has an NMK feel to it, there isn't any confirmed source that says they worked on it (not even JP NMK fan pages).
I wondered about that - there are plenty of NMK labeled chips, I guess I just assumed. It does totally feel like an NMK game though.

And nice gets!

I think it's actually the 3rd run. They did an initial reprint back in May when the first-run sales blew some minds at CAVE. I chatted a bit with the guys at TRY and they said that this has been a runaway success.. Hopefully there's some more money in the coffers now for some new titles down the line. Anyhow, it made me so happy to hear that. Isn't this pretty much the same story with what happened with DOJ? It was meant to be the final shmup title, but it was so successful that they pressed on with STGs? Think about all that we wouldn't have had that been the case - Ibara, Ketsui, Pink Sweets, MMP, AK... :(

Anyhow, here's a pic of the boot screen:

Indeed. It was common knowledge the PGM hardware gave Cave a lot of problems but that interview reveals just how serious it was. I think Cave have been surprised by SDOJ's success. I always knew they could have another hit if they took the time to develop something that appeals more to the (hard)core audience and here it is. I'm sure it will be their biggest earner in a while so we'll see another, I'm just hoping they invested in more PCBs and aren't moving exclusively to NESICA.

Looks like this run will also have the crackly audio and EX GP bug. I'm sure they could've fixed the latter easily but it would cause far too much confusion.

I really hope that means they'll leave all that pandering-to-the-novice gaming aside now. I don't mind if it kicks my ass, I just don't want to be bored by it.

I'm on the fence myself. I enjoy SDOJ a lot and it's a refreshing return to the Ketsui/DOJ era but it's completely emasculating to an average player and for that reason I prefer Akai Katana.

Agreed. It steers better, especially if you switch the stick to 2-way. That being said, I would give Great 1000 the edge graphically. World Rally is pretty rough in the graphics dept IMO, but the gameplay makes up for it for the most part. I love the night levels in World Rally, you cant see shit and have to pretty much memorize the turns and obstacles.

Btw: I have to check out my collection...maybe i have broken the 500 pcb limit.

Finally, I got a workable Raiden board. Now just need to complete my supergun and play this baby for awhile.

Congrats Jepjepjep! Batsugun Special and Soukyugurentai are two of my all time favorites.
Another classic that you may have missed, and IMHO the best Saturn shooter, Rayforce aka Layer Section aka Galactic Attack.

Raiden has a weird refresh rate; I find it amazing that it still displays correctly on your Sony TV.
