Re: Super Slim PS3 CECH-4000 Coming Up
Its just going to be a laptop size console thats all. Any suggestion of features being taken away is rather silly. Its not a PS3 if it doesn't have everything the mk1 60gb had. (performance wise).

If it's region-f***ed, then it'll be a piece of crap on arrival

Re: Super Slim PS3 CECH-4000 Coming Up
All PS3's have region lockout capability. Its just that everyone chose not to use it until now.
I thought it was obvious why Atlas did what they did. The only beef I have is that Atlus could just wait for the EU version to launch before talking about region locking. Or just giving the EU distributor their work which would equate to at least 90% of the final EU product.
Essentially, region lockout on PS3 equates to the blu ray standard. ABC. If you put a blu ray PS3 disc in it just reads the header like a movie disc. So Atlus has region A rights on the game, the EU one has region B rights.

Well it seems your semi right. My games have numbers on the back 1,2,3.
But that probably equates to the same as ABC anyway.

Re: Super Slim PS3 CECH-4000 Coming Up
It was only one word though.
So does anyone know what 1,2,3 means on the back of PS3 games?
I tried to find out but there is no conclusive evidence.

Did you think at all while writing this post?I thought it was obvious why Atlas did what they did. The only beef I have is that Atlus could just wait for the EU version to launch before talking about region locking
Wait AFTER people have bought a product to announce that they can't use it AT ALL? That's really what you wish Atlus would do?
No, they specifically stated the region lock is to prevent importing between Japan and the US. Japan and the US both have the same blu-ray region. So they're using something different for region locking.Essentially, region lockout on PS3 equates to the blu ray standard.
Also, Eurogamer is just speculating, while there's certainly a new PS3 revision coming, it doesn't necessarily have to be a large revision.
Re: Super Slim PS3 CECH-4000 Coming Up
I doubt they would make a "super slim" model without another process shrink on Cell and RSX to reduce power dissipation (if my sources are right, the current slim PS3 is rated for 200 watts maximum vs. slim PS2's 45 watts), and the NRE costs on that are huge. It would be interesting if this is true, because it would suggest that they expect to keep selling PS3s for a long time rather than canning it in favor of PS4.
Re: Super Slim PS3 CECH-4000 Coming Up
Current PS3s (CECH-3000) use about 60W. Launch units (CECHA) used ~200W.Ex-Cyber wrote:I doubt they would make a "super slim" model without another process shrink on Cell and RSX to reduce power dissipation (if my sources are right, the current slim PS3 is rated for 200 watts

It would be AWESOME if this is a top loader like the slim PS2. I absolutely hate slot drives. They damage and trap discs, you can't safely leave discs inside them, they break down easily.
Though, this could be a Europe-only release like the PSP Street.

Its probably something they will do since its a cost cutting exercise.

2 = Europe
3 = Asia
All games will work on any PS3, but if your game is european for example, any DLC you buy will only work if it's from the european store.
Re: Super Slim PS3 CECH-4000 Coming Up
I don't think they'll switch to top loading; the slot loader is a pretty good way to prevent kiddies from damaging the blu ray lens/assembly.
Anyway, if this revision results in a price-drop then the result will be an even higher worldwide gap of weekly sales in favor of PS3. PS3 has been outselling its main competitor Xbox 360 by 20-30,000 units every single week since the beginning of the year (more than 40k in some weeks). PS3 is currently outselling Wii 3:1.

That sucks. You'd have to do a temp ylod fix to get the disc back.D wrote:Op Intensify wrote:It would be AWESOME if this is a top loader like the slim PS2. I absolutely hate slot drives. Re: Super Slim PS3 CECH-4000 Coming Up
Not really. There's a screw under the PS3 you can turn to manually eject the disc.Friendly wrote:That sucks. Re: Super Slim PS3 CECH-4000 Coming Up
You're assuming that Microsoft won't counter with a price-drop (and maybe even a redesign) of their own. At the very least, both the PS3 and the 360 will be getting a price-drop later this year to counter the release of the Wii U. The 360 typically outsells the PS3 by a large margin globally during the last few months of the year, erasing most/all of the gains made by the PS3 up to that point. This pattern has been pretty consistent for a few years now. With the Wii U thrown into the mix, the PS3 and/or the 360 could potentially lose a lot of sales this holiday season. It's going to be interesting to see what each of the 3 have planned and how consumers react.Friendly wrote:Anyway, if this revision results in a price-drop then the result will be an even higher worldwide gap of weekly sales in favor of PS3. I assumed the fat PS3 also had the disc-ejecting screw, but I just googled it and turns out it doesn't.Friendly wrote:Good to know, but didn't D say he had a fat PS3 in the other topic?
In that case, if holding the eject button while turning it on won't eject the disc, then a ylod fix is indeed the only way.

Re: Super Slim PS3 CECH-4000 Coming Up
I think Microsoft's 360 "price drop" is that $99 subscription scam.
By the way, if your 360 traps a disc you can manually pull out the tray with a paper clip.

I don't think so. For the time-being at least, it's just an experiment. An experiment that will hopefully fail.Op Intensify wrote:I think Microsoft's 360 "price drop" is that $99 subscription scam.

60W typical is plausible; I was quoting maximum ratings for both systems. From the label, the corresponding rating on my CECHA is 120V * 3.2A = 384W.Friendly wrote:Current PS3s (CECH-3000) use about 60W. Launch units (CECHA) used ~200W.

That's the input voltage from the AC/DC converter. Internally, I would reckon like most electronics these days, components are running at either 12V or 5V DC.Ex-Cyber wrote:60W typical is plausible; I was quoting maximum ratings for both systems. I was trying to get a sense of the total amount of heat that the cooling system has to remove, so it doesn't really matter what voltages the individual components run on. All of that power is eventually delivered through the AC socket.shmuppyLove wrote:That's the input voltage from the AC/DC converter.
