Its just going to be a laptop size console thats all. Any suggestion of features being taken away is rather silly. Its not a PS3 if it doesn't have everything the mk1 60gb had. (performance wise).

All PS3's have region lockout capability. Its just that everyone chose not to use it until now.

I thought it was obvious why Atlas did what they did. The only beef I have is that Atlus could just wait for the EU version to launch before talking about region locking. Or just giving the EU distributor their work which would equate to at least 90% of the final EU product.


Essentially, region lockout on PS3 equates to the blu ray standard. ABC. If you put a blu ray PS3 disc in it just reads the header like a movie disc. So Atlus has region A rights on the game, the EU one has region B rights.

No, they specifically stated the region lock is to prevent importing between Japan and the US. Japan and the US both have the same blu-ray region. So they're using something different for region locking.

Also, Eurogamer is just speculating, while there's certainly a new PS3 revision coming, it doesn't necessarily have to be a large revision.

I doubt they would make a "super slim" model without another process shrink on Cell and RSX to reduce power dissipation (if my sources are right, the current slim PS3 is rated for 200 watts maximum vs. slim PS2's 45 watts), and the NRE costs on that are huge. It would be interesting if this is true, because it would suggest that they expect to keep selling PS3s for a long time rather than canning it in favor of PS4.

It would be AWESOME if this is a top loader like the slim PS2. I absolutely hate slot drives. They damage and trap discs, you can't safely leave discs inside them, they break down easily.

Though, this could be a Europe-only release like the PSP Street.

2 = Europe
3 = Asia

All games will work on any PS3, but if your game is european for example, any DLC you buy will only work if it's from the european store.

I don't think they'll switch to top loading; the slot loader is a pretty good way to prevent kiddies from damaging the blu ray lens/assembly.

Anyway, if this revision results in a price-drop then the result will be an even higher worldwide gap of weekly sales in favor of PS3. PS3 has been outselling its main competitor Xbox 360 by 20-30,000 units every single week since the beginning of the year (more than 40k in some weeks). PS3 is currently outselling Wii 3:1.

You're assuming that Microsoft won't counter with a price-drop (and maybe even a redesign) of their own. At the very least, both the PS3 and the 360 will be getting a price-drop later this year to counter the release of the Wii U. The 360 typically outsells the PS3 by a large margin globally during the last few months of the year, erasing most/all of the gains made by the PS3 up to that point. This pattern has been pretty consistent for a few years now. With the Wii U thrown into the mix, the PS3 and/or the 360 could potentially lose a lot of sales this holiday season. It's going to be interesting to see what each of the 3 have planned and how consumers react.

I assumed the fat PS3 also had the disc-ejecting screw, but I just googled it and turns out it doesn't.

In that case, if holding the eject button while turning it on won't eject the disc, then a ylod fix is indeed the only way.

By the way, if your 360 traps a disc you can manually pull out the tray with a paper clip.

I don't think so. For the time-being at least, it's just an experiment. An experiment that will hopefully fail.

That's the input voltage from the AC/DC converter. Internally, I would reckon like most electronics these days, components are running at either 12V or 5V DC.

I was trying to get a sense of the total amount of heat that the cooling system has to remove, so it doesn't really matter what voltages the individual components run on. All of that power is eventually delivered through the AC socket.
