STGT'12 planning thread
Re: STGT'12 planning thread
another vote for toaplan although id love to see batsugun normal or special i can see why the scoring trick might put people off but aye v-v would be cool .
Re: STGT'12 planning thread
It sounds worse than it is as the loops really are not very long at all and get shorter each loop .ebarrett wrote:Batsugun special is four goddamn loops, hell no
it doesn't need a counterstop to be a horrible idea
Re: STGT'12 planning thread
Isn't batsugun special REALLY easy though?

Re: STGT'12 planning thread
Seriously though we've been having Donpachi as game of the month which is pretty Toaplanish, it would also be nice not to be sailing through a list of 2-alls and 3-alls.
Apart from Truxton 2. I'd get behind that if it was 1 loop only. Primarily cause it's bastard hard

Batsugun is way more manic than donpachi though, that's for sure.. wouldn't mind playing it. can't have truxton 2 since it's been done already, thank god :p

Yeah! That! I always confuse the two.
Re: STGT'12 planning thread
Didn't we already play Space Bomber also? Or was that in the Macaw Tournament?
Re: STGT'12 planning thread
Dangar Robo UFO
Hacha Mecha Fighter
Gradius III
Storm Blade
Gunbird 2
I think that would be a nice mix of styles. Gunbird 2 and Storm Blade are quite similar, but it would be nice to contrast a game as easy as Storm Blade with a game as hard as Gradius III.
The past two years have been so good I'm a little wary about going back to voting. Even if I wasn't particularly enamoured with the game, it was still interesting.
Regarding PGM week: since you can still buy Ketsui and DOJ new for a current console, it's going to be ESPGaluda or Bee Storm, right?

Re: STGT'12 planning thread
Although I think only coin-op games are allowed, since the chipped PlayStation I ordered exclusively for the sake of playing Zanac Neo without lag has just arrived, I hereby suggest Zanac Neo. Just don't play it on a PS2, anyone. Reportedly it's got some issues emulated as well.
A question - can one plug a DualShock 2 up an original PSX safely? I want the vibrations - in this one game of them all it's quite essential.
Having said that, Zanac Special Version deserves more exposition as well. As it's substantialy different from Zanacs known since the eighties.

Yes they work fine. I think the big change from the Dual Shock to the Dual Shock 2 was the analog buttons.

STGT 2012: OUTZONE
Can't help but mention that this game makes a mockery out of the badass supership building potential from the previous game (it's hard). Not as bad as Terra Force (aka Super Gradius SynDrome).MX7 wrote:Dangar Robo UFO

Re: STGT'12 planning thread
I second Outzone, if only to force CHI to get the 5-ALL he's clearly capable of.
Week themes:
1) Not properly emulated in MAME
2) VS shooting (Change Air Blade, TSS, POFV etc)
3) Keyboard
4) Smartphone
5) Quake

Re: STGT'12 planning thread
Well, I personally think STGT '12 weeks should be like this:
1. Gunnail
2. Galaga 3 or '88
3. Tyrian2000 Arcade Mode (Score based off only one episode chosen by vote, the details of this would have to be worked out. Hard Difficulty)
4. Rapid Hero
5. Parody/comedic Shmup
1. Gunnail
2. Galaga 3 or '88

Re: STGT'12 planning thread
You guys read my mind! I was thinking about GunNail (that will get some lol responses for scoring though...), Rapid Hero (Macaw better play then), Galaga '88. I mentioned CAG somewhere recently, although I'm not sure how well it really would do for the scoring discussion (lots of whining about random drops and so on).
It would be a neat tiebreaker to play CAG online but obviously it wouldn't be practicable to have a ladder with everybody playing it. Would be fun to do sometime though.
Qauek wuld be fun, I'ma scholoa yous MX7, so watch out
