STGT'12 planning thread
We're rapidly approaching that time of the year again - the yearly Shooting Game Tournament time! As seems to be a tradition by now, I'm gonna run it again. Here's some basic info to get you hyped and also ready for announcements in the near future:
Schedule
The precise schedule is not yet concrete, however expect something similar to last year (three weeks of registrations starting soon, followed by 5 weeks of play starting around the middle of July). No SDA marathon clashing this year, so that's great also.
Scoring
Same as last year. It works. I might think about a tie resolution mechanic, though frankly, I really liked the tie last year, so don't count on it.
Game choice
Now the big change. Instead of preset choices (which, while they got us gems like Blade Buster, don't often have much appeal to players at large), I have decided to bring back voting. To make the system a lot easier than in the olden days, voting will be done by team captains only, and will be done either a) at the end of the previous playing week or b) during a reserved day just after the previous week ends (so you can't really spend time training a certain game). The voting ballot will be secret - by PM sounds the easiest solution. I think that is a reasonable idea - though any suggestions are most welcome.
As far as playing weeks go, there will be a couple company weeks (a Cave Too Close For Comfort week is pretty much assured), and a couple theme weeks. No details yet - I'm still sifting through games for viable choices. I will make the themes known around the registrations.
Suggestions
If you have any suggestions, questions, opinions or doubts, let me know.
Expect updates soon, and let's have a bloody good tournament this year!

I hope this doesn't mean Cave SH-3...a Cave Too Close For Comfort week is pretty much assured

I think that's exactly what he meanstrap15 wrote:I hope this doesn't mean Cave SH-3...

Re: STGT'12 planning thread
I don't think that's fair; not everyone wants to disregard Cave's C&D letter, and causing a penalty for not playing a week that we don't morally agree with is kinda bunk...
Also not everyone has a powerful enough machine.
Also the slowdown is very much not accurate.

Re: STGT'12 planning thread
nah, he means the PGM games from what I remember on IRC lol.
and not everyone would be able to play the SH3 games because you'd need unofficial MAME versions and might have performance problems, those kind of things have never been allowed in stgt.

It's PGM games, get your head out of the gutter.

As long as TCFC is Ketsui Arrange, ESPGaluda, or DoDonPachi II Bee Storm.

Not Cave, and even if it were it would be a seriously lame choice.Chaos Phoenixma wrote:DoDonPachi II Bee Storm.
Ketsui for STGT '12 plz
Re: STGT'12 planning thread
Voting sounds like a good idea. Hopefully that means we'll get to play something decent.

Re: STGT'12 planning thread
Just make sure everyone has to play Hotdog Storm!

Re: STGT'12 planning thread
I wasn't really serious about that. I do know it was liscensed by Cave but not made by them. Still would be interesting.
I just don't think DOJ or Ketsui would be good games for a 1 week competition, plus there's always some complaints when the looping games come up, and I've complained before that I think Ketsui's 2 different loops(as well as DFK's) are awful. ESPGaluda is probably the best PGM game for STGT though, 1 round, would be easy to get into. If we wanted to get even more TCFC, the Ketsui Arrange patch looks interesting, but obviously Cave only made the game that's based off of.

I'd rather have a Touhou week, honestlyO. Van Bruce wrote:Ebarret and Mesh Control, we need Cave games. Stop spoiling the fun.

Re: STGT'12 planning thread
As long as it was EoSD, IN, or SA that'd be awesome. But I'd be so out of practice. But odds are we'd get something lame like PCB or UFO if a Touhou week happened.
But I'm not expecting any Touhou or Doujin stuff.

Re: STGT'12 planning thread
Let's get this complaining ball rolling.
I think everyone here has played a Cave game at one point or another. STGT is great when there is something new to try.
I'd rather play bee storm.
yeah, fuck loops that I'll never reach.

Re: STGT'12 planning thread
I dunno - I'd like to have a Cave game in there. Yeah I've played most of them already (poorly), but it'd be good to have a reason to buckle down and learn one for realsies. DOJ or ESPG sound good. I can't make heads or tails of Ketsui. Something in my brain just breaks everytime I boot it up.mesh control wrote: I think everyone here has played a Cave game at one point or another. A late Toaplan game would be nice as well, since they all have sound now. One of the Tatsujin/Truxtons, or maybe V-Five (in place of your standard Konami week) or Dogyuun.
Also, something totally weird, like Shippu Mahou Dasaikusen, Change Air Blade, Cosmic Cop, or Cybattler. Weird scoring, ho!

Re: STGT'12 planning thread
How about a doujin week? with ONLY one touhou? preferably PCB or IN...
Re: STGT'12 planning thread
So, would all STGT participants be expected to fork out for a copy of a Touhou game, or are you suggesting something else?O. Van Bruce wrote:How about a doujin week? with ONLY one touhou? preferably PCB or IN...
Re: STGT'12 planning thread
The top freeware doujins from the voting a few months back were: Judgment Silversword (wonderswan emu), ChoRenSha68k, BWR+, Eden's Aegis, ZenIchi (not sure if this last is freeware).

Enjoy your abysmal input lag. I love JSS, but dear god the wonderswan emulators don't help at all.Moniker wrote:Judgment Silversword (wonderswan emu)
edit: also not sure if it was ever freeware? either way, seriously people,
