Is that because you don't have one, or do you think that playing with keyboard gives you more precise control? In that case, what button do you have mapped to slow movement?
I play with a gamepad and really wasn't able to enjoy Hellsinker or get into it as much until I finally got one. It's unfortunate that Hellsinker is like so many other (JP) doujin games with absolutely abysmal keyboard setup, because I would absolutely use my keyboard instead if I could map the inputs anywhere I wanted. I used to be able to tolerate playing cross-armed (I NEED movement mapped to my left hand) for some other doujin shooters, but Hellsinker just requires far too much concentration to deal with that for an entire playthrough. Hellsinker is actually the game that finally made me cave in and get a gamepad.
Cadrin wrote:I wonder how many people don't utilize slow movement at all, haven't even ever touched the speed control setting, or find it hard to use because of limited options the game has to offer when it comes to binding actions to keyboard buttons.
I use Momentary for my speed control mainly just because it's the default, but I think holding something is the most natural method of slow movement control, and a button that doesn't force you to do something else is even better. I'm sure more precision is possible with Triphase, but that would take some work for me to get used to at first. When I was playing this before I had a gamepad, it took me quite a long time before I realized that there even was a slow movement button and that it could be mapped to a key. But that was back when there was no translation patch or even a wiki and the barrier to getting into this game due to lack of information out there was much larger.

If there's not a large amount of input lag associated with this and it lets me change the key setup to anything I want, I would be very interested in this.

I play in fullscreen with a bit of stretching on my nice big 5:4 monitor. I never really though about the stretching before though, but I guess there must be some if its proper aspect ratio is 4:3. I wonder what I've been missing. Maybe I'll have to start playing it in a maximized window from now on, though when I play Hellsinker windowed I have to turn off my screensaver/automatic monitor shutdown because Windows doesn't detect any inputs while in it for some reason.
Of course, that's just an opinion.
