Hellsinker English patch RELEASED!
Re: Hellsinker English patch RELEASED!
Is their anyway to play this at a higher resolution then 640x480? I almost have to squint whenever I play and fullscreen doesn't work at all (its just shows black with only the audio).

Re: Hellsinker English patch RELEASED!
you can expand the window on windowed mode... that's how I allways play it. And why do you get a black screen?
Re: Hellsinker English patch RELEASED!
Oh lord, you guys write so much, it is too much for my tiny little brain to process. I'll just begin from the issues that I know a solution for.
Oskar: (heh it's funny, you have the same name as me, and there aren't many Oskars around where I live)
The patch also added those little "blood cells" that appear at times in the background of The Way of All Flesh, because that level can never be flashy and esoteric enough.
I'll check the name of the boss later. In the beginning of the fight it should read "Floccinaucihihilipilification" with the name updating very frequently, as if there was a flashing cursor scrolling through it (oh, by the way, you should have checked if the translation crew actually changed it to "Floccinaucinihilipilification", which is the correct way to spell it. I bet they missed that little typo because what the hell, nobody uses that word anyway).
Banshee:
AntiFritz:
Here's a little manual for you:
- I assume you are using a fairly large resolution, at least 1680x1050, like mine, or Full HD. It probably is a panoramic resolution, so doing what Oskar says will lead to the image becoming stretched horizontally, which looks kinda ugly. If that is the case, then do like what I did: install Sizer, run it, and configure it to add a 1280x960 resolution (twice the original size) and set it to put the window at the center of the screen.
- Run English Hellsinker.exe and press "start", then right-click on Sizer tray icon (I assume you are using a Windows OS) and you should see a menu saying: "resize H E L L S I N K E R . to:" with some pre-set resolutions and the one you just added at the bottom of the list. Select 1280x960 (you can set any resolution you want, mind you. Just be sure to keep the aspect ratio at 4:3, like how the game is meant to be played).
- If it says something other than "H E L L S I N K E R .", then make sure you are focused on the game window. Click on it once, then right-click on the Sizer tray icon again and it should work.
EDIT@DOWN: glad I could help!
Oskar: (heh it's funny, you have the same name as me, and there aren't many Oskars around where I live)
Tonnor changed the graphics from the rotating triangles of light to those pulsating circles in one of the patches. It's been around until at least 1.008f. It might have been the case that you simply did not realize that the patching application only does HALF of the work for you and that you have to manually update the contents of game folders with the contents of the folder "hs_C72_patch_1008f" that the patcher creates.O. Yes. Download a little program called Sizer. It lets you resize virtually any window.AntiFritz wrote:Is their anyway to play this at a higher resolution then 640x480?

Re: Hellsinker English patch RELEASED!
If i expand the window then the game is then stretched to 16:9.
I don't know why it goes black screen. If I set it to full screen from the config program it just opens up and I can hear the music/sfx but no picture.
EDIT: Seems to be work if I disable my second monitor. Dammit.
@cadrin: Thanks, I'll try that soon. And yes my main monitor is 1920x1080 while my second one is 1600x900.
EDIT: Thanks again, that worked fine.

I have no idea how that could trip an antivirus and not all the crazy invasive stuff I did in HS_e.exe ... So I'm going to guess it's because it's listening to input rather than anything else.
Yeah, missed that. Not changing it at this point, though! (Edit: Spoilers but as you shoot the boss that changes and reforms to something else. lame joke incoming...
is it really that Floccinaucihihilipilifiquistic?
Re: Hellsinker English patch RELEASED!
Hang on a sec, AntiFritz. I've just figured out that Sizer incorporates the frame around the application into the resolution (at least in the case of Hellsinker), so the image might still be slightly off from the golden proportions of 4:3.
You will have to mess around with the program and check if the resolution is correct yourself (I did it the ghetto way: alt+printscreen to make a screenshot only of the currently focused window, paste it into paint, cut around the edges to remove the frame, then measure the resolution). For my Windows (XP, default size of the frame of the window), the actual numbers that I have to put into Sizer that return a proper 1280x960 resolution of the game itself are 1285x969.
Of course this shouldn't bother you that much, but just in case you wanted your circles perfectly round like I do... (Because I've gotta admit, most of the time I have Hellsinker running, I am staring at the "A THING LEFT BEHIND" menu with my mouth open in awe or have the game minimized to play one of the menu themes, so when I am doing the former, I want my Garland logo to be perfect, just like the creators of the Hellsinker mechanism wanted their world to be, I imagine) (also replays, to laugh at my past miserable failures... or at my recent miserable failures)
About the spoiler: that is why I said that the name of the boss should only read that way in the beginning of the fight. I know what happens to it later on, and I love it. Also I think only the lvl3 boss pulls such shenanigans with its name at all. The lvl2 one is just garbled, unreadable "Floccinaucihihilipilification", and the lvl1 is "Kareido..."
Huh, I forgot to check if you guys changed all kareidoscopes to kaleidoscopes! (There are two that I am aware of.)
Also, checked out the final fight. The name is fine, the misteltoes are not.

And yes, we know of the texture error and will be putting out an update probably tomorrow to fix it. There were also some other alpha blending issues on the same texture that went unnoticed; Photoshop did a real number on that. We used full RGBA PNGs for insertion before converting to the format Hellsinker uses, and PS was not treating the alpha blended pixels correctly.
Re: Hellsinker English patch RELEASED!
Thanks for this brilliant work! Being able to read the manual in English is a dream come true!

Re: Hellsinker English patch RELEASED!
I guess it's not really a patch issue since this seems to have been a problem originally, but has anyone else noticed how Saint Mauve's health bar and attack name obscures his dialogue? It happens to an extent with Old Rose too, but her first attack's name is placed somewhere a bit less obscuring.
Of course, that's just an opinion.

No it doesn't. It only seems to pop up for the English one - and I'm not using Avast but Avira AntiVir. Starting to think I can take a few guesses, I'll muck with it later. Can you give the actual error it gives? Delphi is definitely related here.
Edit: Yeah okay I checked it out over lunch and I think I found the cause. Stupid overzealous AV flipping out for no reason. Will find out when the update gets pushed out later today.

Okay guys v1.1 is up. Fixes some typos in the manual, fixes the segment 8 texture, and may possibly fix that issue with the pad config. If not, oh well! This'll probably be final unless something major crops up.
Additionally!
Here's a really long writeup I did on all the stuff I hacked in to make the translation work.

Re: Hellsinker English patch RELEASED!
I noticed in v1.1 that the gibberish in between the bosses in Shrine of Farewell is missing.
Re: Hellsinker English patch RELEASED!
Do you mean what Mauve refers to on his blog as "The Shrine of Farewell replay-only gibberish" (bunch of blue letters appearing in the center of the screen)? It might just be your graphics settings. I think you need to have them set to "flashy" or something high in order for them to even appear in replays.
Anyway, is there a way to make the text appear during normal gameplay as well? It looks pretty and doesn't obscure the view much.
...wait, you guys actually translated those blue kanji or whatever alphabet Tonnor used to English alphabet? Wow.
And it actually comes from a text that is not in the game and that only the maker of the game himself and people who hacked it may know?
And just reading the blog entry gives me the feeling that Mauve really deserves to be sanctified by us. Because holy cow... that's a lot of work you had to put in it, man.

Oh, why didn't you? Hilariously Engrish as it might be, in one of the earlier versions, there was a stella level named "Complessed". Tonnor promptly changed it back to "Compressed". I think he really wants to get his "L"s and "R"s right. Oh well.Mauve Cow wrote:We didn't change the one of them. Not going to either!

Edit: Nevermind. Seems to work fine now. Althouth I have no idea as to why they where missing at first. I never toutched any of the options. O well.

A slight headsup for anyone working on the wiki. The name for Kagura's "Groom Eater - Anti-bacillus saber", was changed in one of these patches (not any of the english patches) to "Xanthez - Anti-bacillus saber".
Just to let everyone know. That is the kinda thing that slip under peoples radar.

Given how quiet things got I assume all the fuss is over with and we're free. Amusingly enough I've already spotted another typo in the manual, but there's no sense releasing a fix just for that...
At any rate, I got reminded that I said I'd give you guys an explanation of the Shrine of Farewell endboss text.
Short answer is that it is complete nonsense that is not meant to be understood.
Long answer is that there's a pool of 64 sentences in the source texture, and it will crop four randomly chosen pieces of them together to make the line for that frame. The sentences themselves are, well, incredibly silly. Seriously. There's things like "The Name is Lululu" and "Ed the Endlessly Accelerating Undertaker" in there.

Good to know ranyon has a sense of humor, then. The Endlessly Accelerating Undertaker.... that would be a good name for a post-rock album.

If you enable the Intermission Monologue in the settings, Deadliar will have mid-stage dialogue for all segments except for 1 Behind and 2 Behind. Minogame and Kagura have it for 5 only. hs_padas_e.exe now reports a "'TR/Crypt.XPACK.Gen" according to Avira AntiVir.
As for the characters, I must be the only one who can't get a grip on Minogame. The wiki seems to have Minogame listed as the easiest to use but I can't figure it out for the life of me, Deadliar on the other hand was piss easy to figure out and it's got that hax charge shot. I'm at my best with him so far, having unlocked the Shrine of Farewell as a selectable stage.
