Quick question...bootleg?
Noticed this auction, wasn't sure what to think:
http://cgi.ebay.com/Psikyo-Sengoku-Ace- ... dZViewItem
It's listed as a "Hong Kong distribution copy"...is that a euphemism for "bootleg," or is it just an "Asian version?" The fact that it has no instructions makes me a bit suspicious, not to mention the cheap price...also, the colors on the box look off, though that might just be the photo...he has similar "Hong Kong distribution copies" of Sengoku Basara up for sale, also with no instructions...
Anyone have any concrete info on this?

Heh, he also has Mushi and DDP: DOJ for 14.99 "buy it now", same with no instructions and everything.

No concrete info for ya, but I smell iso in the mix. Hong Kong and other Asian nations are rife with DVDs of movies that haven't had an "official" DVD release here in the States. I'm sure they are good at putting these games together as well.

It's definitely a bootleg. I bought a couple of those locally when I was in the area.
As SFKhoa pointed out, the font on the bottom of the disc isn't correct.
You can see imperfections on the box art also. The spine art is folded over to the front, and the right side of the front cover is cut off (most noticeably on the PS logo in the upper right corner). Methinks his colour printer was running low in yellow ink too.

Actually, just to avoid having to make another topic for this, here's another item I can't say I've ever seen before...
http://cgi.ebay.com/SENGOKU-BLADE-Japan ... dZViewItem
The guy says outright that the game is "missing the bonus disc," but I've honestly only seen the 2-disc version of this available before...is the "1-disc" version on sale here "official," or did the guy just cook up a replacement case by himself? I can't tell if the thing in the front is an instruction booklet or not...I don't think it's a bootleg, but I wonder if anyone else has ever seen anything else like this.

It looks like just a replacement case with the manual on forum and disc one of the game. That thing on front is definatly the instruction booklet.BulletMagnet wrote:Actually, just to avoid having to make another topic for this, here's another item I can't say I've ever seen before...

Yeah, and oddly enough, he has the back insert but not the front insert. No reason for suspicion there although the price is by no means a deal.BrianC wrote:It looks like just a replacement case with the manual on forum and disc one of the game. One of the weirdest I've seen was "Hot Kid Color" on a GBC game.. and a Famicom clone called the "Family Gameputer", which seems like an oddly clever name for a bootleg.nZero wrote:GamecastBrianC wrote:At least these bootlegs don't say "Game" or "Gamestation 2" on them. Some boots really do have writing that silly on them.
That seller is great and totally cool. It's the forum member SuperPang and i've delt with him before.BulletMagnet wrote:Actually, just to avoid having to make another topic for this, here's another item I can't say I've ever seen before...

And just in case somebody is really tempted, no, this auction is also a bootleg. Besides the obvious hints, the other obvious clue is that there was no Asian version of the game:

truth. my copy of Mushi doesn't have the red "DVD" on the spine, either. :/Geezer wrote:The spine on that DOJ is all wrong, there's no red section on my original copy and the Japanese characters don't take up that much space. Bootleg city I'm afraid
selling CDR's is outlawed on Ebay, this shit is no different.

Here's another one I haven't seen before...
http://cgi.ebay.com/RADIANT-SILVERGUN-S ... dZViewItem
The RSG soundtrack comes in a regular ol' CD case, right?

http://cgi.ebay.com/RAYMAN-2-Game-Boy-C ... dZViewItem Strangely enough, I think this is actually real. Notice the battery and DMG letters are in the right place? I heard that Rayman 2 GBC actually got a limited US release. It didn't show up in many stores or get reviewed at many sites, but I have heard from reliable sources that it actually came out in the US.
Another one that may not be a fake. An actual Cube game for the b/w GB. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... _Stores_IT
