Actually this point is debatable. Atheism is not an organized religion like christianity, but it is a set of religious beliefs (namely the non-existence of a high power) and therefore is technically a religion. Though it is a very broadly defined collection of beliefs and is less of a religion in the traditional sense and more a super set of religions alongside mono- and polytheism. A better option would be secular, meaning no religion.

Athiesm is a complete lack of religious belief (as in believing in stuff for which there is insufficient evidence to justify it). Claiming it's a religion is like saying not playing videogames is a hobby. At best, it's a position on religious views (as in a lack of them), but it isn't a religion itself.

Atheism is NOT the complete lack of religious beliefs. It is specific the belief that there are no gods or higher powers. being an atheist does not automatically prevent you from having other spiritual inclinations.

Atheism = No Gods (ex. certain forms of Buddhism can be argued as being atheist)
Theism = Belief in exactly one god (ex. Abrahamic Religions)
Polytheism = (ex. Hindus, Romans, Norse)

This is why I said it is more of a superset than a specific religion. And to quote Rush, "If you chose not to decide, you still have made a choice." Same applies here. If you choose not to believe in gods, you still have beliefs.

Voting for Judaism, mainly for the cool furry hats.

If I started believing in a god then I would also have to start to believing in vampires and werewolves and other empirically impossible things that some people believe in regardless. Religion is pretty cool, with all the robes and temples and ideas about being nice to each other, but it's all just a bit of a laugh, surely?

Atheism does not necessarily require a conscious 'choice' not to believe. A person who has never heard of deities nor any concept of religions or gods would technically be an atheist by default.

I think the more important side of things is what your beliefs are based on mine are based on logic reason and probability with a willing to change should and when more evidence arrives the same cant be said for religious beliefs though.
