Don't get me wrong here, I would lay down 1000 EUR for an official Battle Garrega sequel on SH3/PCB...
I guess I shouldn't be surprised; they're definitely not something the average person can really want to come back to after their first run (wheee invisibullets). I dunno, I'd just kill for another YGW game though.

Ibara > Garegga

I'd be tempted with a new YGW game, though after the mess of updates that Pink Sweets recieved I'd be wary of buying on release...

I do for years, so? Where is my SH3 Garegga sequel?
Wouldn't mind Batrider too, it's probably more "today gamers" compatible. Just throw some half naked underage girls on them bikes

haha batrider is way closer. i'd probably argue batrider -> ibara -> pinksweets -> bakraid in terms of garegga-ness.

unless you're talking about aesthetics in which case that ship sailed a long time ago

I'd say I have a pretty good idea!

- Arcades dying
- Cave still stuck with underpowered, outdated hardware
- 360 dead in Japan
- PS3/PC ports expensive to program
- G-Rev proved PS3 is not a gateway to expanded market/more sales
- Cave doesn't have the funds to maintain online store or host Matsuris
- Social/mobile game content is rapidly expanding and much more easily profitable
- Free and $1 smartphone games have likely destroyed the market for the premium prices of Cave's more hardcore smartphone fare
- Battle Garegga creator allegedly tasked with designing prize redemption games

It all adds up to an obvious conclusion.

That was the case 5 years ago, what's changed?
Op Intensify wrote: - Cave still stuck with underpowered, outdated hardware
By choice - this underpowered outdated hardware has produced the best shooters for the last ten years.
Op Intensify wrote:- 360 dead in Japan
Suppose so, good job Cave don't make 'em - they make PCB's that cost penny's (with masterpieces encoded on them)
Op Intensify wrote: - PS3/PC ports expensive to program
What's that got to do with anything - you really think port sales would go through the roof if they release them on PS3?
Op Intensify wrote: - G-Rev proved PS3 is not a gateway to expanded market/more sales
See above.
Op Intensify wrote: - Cave doesn't have the funds to maintain online store or host Matsuris
So you're their accountant now? How do you know that's the reason? Who are you Est..
Op Intensify wrote: - Social/mobile game content is rapidly expanding and much more easily profitable
So from that we can read that everything is going to fail
Op Intensify wrote: - Free and $1 smartphone games have likely destroyed the market for the premium prices of Cave's more hardcore smartphone fare

More rubbish
Op Intensify wrote: - Battle Garegga creator allegedly tasked with designing prize redemption games
It's a living - besides he was doing this stuff before turning DFK into a God-like experience.
Op Intensify wrote: It all adds up to an obvious conclusion.
Well, it does if you don't know what you're talking about... so we're back to opinion masqurading as fact.

At least we had a couple of weeks off.

EDIT: As I hate it when things go off topic like this, I'll add that I hope SDOJ stays in the arcades for a while. Much as I'd love to play it via a port I think it's a good thing to have a game that you have to go to an arcade to play (if you happen to live in the right part of the world). Hopefully they'll release another arcade title at some point and start the ball rolling again. The back to basics gameplay seems to be working.

I like how with all the talk about Raizing games, Wii U ports, medal games, etc., no one has mentioned the new SDOJ discovery about the TLB (or maybe loop or separate route):

I hope this guy had unveiled the requisites of that second loop/TLB... If he did it, it's just a matter of a day or 2 before we have a video on nico...

It has to be a second loop if this is really their last arcade title.

And with Autobomb ON too. I was thinking Cave might've made it something hardcore like Autobomb OFF and Expert mode or something.

Isn't there a sound test in the dipswitch settings for this like every other Cave game? Couldn't one just go through the sound test and find the TLB theme if you wanted to prove it actually existed?

a TLB is out of question, we're talking about hibachi and the ussual last form engulfed in flames... the problem is if there is a second loop or not.

More thoughts on the game.

- Definetely made for higher level players, not the casual shooter fan.

- Scoring is tough for a mid-level player such as myself. I've only gotten 1.8b (just shy of the second extend, rounded up. Level 4 boss.) and I feel like getting the second extend would be like a 1CC for me. Believe me, that was a VERY lucky run.

- The patterns are perfectly programmed for higher level players, very tricky to get around.

- The larger than normal or oddly positioned hit box is a challenge getting used to, for me at least.

- The visuals are very nice, but extremely boring. The game lacks charm. I find that important for games that I like.

- Music is pretty cool, well composed and suits the title well.

- It's the most difficult in the DDP series, surpassing DOJ and DFK BL.

- The replay value, for me, is low - a more experienced player may really like the challenge.

- Chains are very easy to hold onto, easiest in the DDP series.

- I personally rank DDP and DDP DOJ higher on my rating scale.

- Game is more difficult than Ketsui's first loop, DOJ's first loop and Futari Maniac.

- Even with loads of practice, I will not 1CC this game.

- Cave really got it right for the higher level players, so I'll sit back and watch their vids.

Isn't that a bit of a defeatist attitude to take to a game? I mean, if you play anything with that in mind it'd be a self-fulfilling prophecy, wouldn't it? You might eventually be able to handle it as your skill improves.

No, it's really not a defeatist attitude, it's reality.

I can say that I may be able to clear DOJ or Ketsui at some point.

I'm not skilled enough to handle the patterns in this game, I tried to convince myself.

Played 5 hours straight when I got it, 6 hours straight e following day. Stage 4 boss (who immediately wasted me) was the best I could do. And it was a VERY lucky run.

I'll be the first to admit when I'm terrible at a game - this is one of them.

It's like saying that maybe one day I'll clear Futari Ultra, just not going to happen.

I believe people who play these games reach a peak. Some continue to become amazing at these games, some level off, like me - just above average.

When I'm really enjoying a game, I get into a zone, like I'm sure you have.

Playing Muchi Muchi Pork, Deathsmiles, Akai Katana, Futari BL ECT. takes my mind off of my business and puts me in the game.

It's pretty tough to explain, but certain games have "charm" to me.

I'm not buying these games to be the best, or have the biggest collection. I play them for fun.

SDOJ just isn't fun to me. But that's just my opinion and should'nt sway any of you from taking the opportunity to play it.

But when I'm constantly dying at the end of stage 3, mid stage 4, I'm not having fun.

At least with any other game I own, I can battle the last boss and hopefully clear it.

I've cleared all of my games with the exception of Galuda and Pork - I've gotten very close on both of them.

Plus they are loads of fun.

As ludicrous as it sounds, I once felt the way about Futari 1.5 original mode back when I first started playing it, but I cleared it anyway.

You gotta stick with it, especially if you spent all that money on the PCB!

It's always darkest before the dawn! etc.
