XRGB-mini Framemeister
Re: XRGB-mini Framemeister (now available !)
hi guys, i have been following this post a few months, since i downgrade my tv CRT to a LED TV (in old school gaming is a downgrade) like everyone already knows it doesn't look good, i have read everywhere that this is the best i can get for gaming, its seen almost everyone in here have RGB-SCART modded their old consoles for the best display you can get, but in my case i don't have in mind to mod any of my old consoles im just looking forward to connect it using S-video or composite.
So gentleman's my question is: the display results i will get from the Framemeister Mini will be worth the price if i only use s-video or composite only?

You might get better results when compared to what you get with your TV.. but of course that depends on how bad/good your TV manages such signals.YONKE wrote:So gentleman's my question is: the display results i will get from the Framemeister Mini will be worth the price if i only use s-video or composite only?
However, you don't have to mod most consoles - just NES, PC Engine and N64 come to mind - the rest do have RGB cables available in teh market, so you can buy those as well.

That's awesome! Thanks so much. I was fruitlessly searching the Japanese menu to see where "update firmware" wasFudoh wrote:you don't.
Put the FW folder on the Micro SD card on your PC. Unplug the PSU from the Mini. Insert the Micro SD card. Plug in the PSU again. The Mini will automatically do the update. Reset the FW afterwards.

Thanks as usual!

A Beta version of firmware 1.05 update is ready for download. It's dated 8th of April but is ready to download now by the looks of things, perhaps the date is when it comes out of beta?
Getting ready to upgrade now, will post back soon.

Direct link (but check the instructions for installing on the link above so you don't fry your machine!!!)

Looks like a whole lot of goodness related to scanlines

Works, control over opacity of odd and even scanlines is awesome, you can force scanlines over other picture modes now also. Tested with SFC so far and the scanlines are just lovely on 1080p.
You have to reselect ENG as the language once upgraded, and it will only change after a restart BTW.

Megadrive still glitches a little, Saturn still has completely screwed picture.
Did someone suggest disconnecting the sync as a possible solution to both these issues?
When the Megadrive isn't glitching (every 5 secs or so) the scanlines look just as great as they do on SFC.

Re: XRGB-mini Framemeister (now available !)
these are cables / signal issues, Micomsoft is likely not able to fix those through a FW update.

I'll have a go at disconnecting the sync on them today then.

Re: XRGB-mini Framemeister (now available !)
Sweet! I checked their site earlier today and the new firmware wasn't up then. Thanks a lot I will install it in a little while as well

Re: XRGB-mini Framemeister (now available !)
Are you saying they fixed scan lines at 1080p? Because they looked terrible before. That is good news!
Did anyone happen to compile the h_scaler and other per input / console settings people have recommended - I just got my setup back to a usable state and was hoping I didn't have to comb through the thread again (the xrgb wiki is lacking in this area, unless I'm missing something).
edit: I guess google site search can work with individual threads - I guess general consensus for 240p (does it save settings per resolution?) is to turn off the autoscaler and set h_scaler to 5 (v_scaler kept default?) What image preset do I use prior to this (zoom and processing modes)

Re: XRGB-mini Framemeister (now available !)
I think there's no censense yet on the various H/V Scaler settings... If you write any down or compile some settings, keep in mind that the output resolution plays a role as well. Scaler settings looking great on 480p or 720p might look bad on 1080p output or vice versa.
Re: XRGB-mini Framemeister (now available !)
Alright. I have been using 1080p and planned on continuing to use that, especially now that I can have decent looking scanlines. Is there some setting I start at w/ zoom or processing (I guess processing less now since you can set scanlines in any mode in 1.05) before I tweak the scaler settings? Standard or Normal 2?
Re: XRGB-mini Framemeister (now available !)
Let me check 1080p with scanlines first. They haven't changed the scaling, have they ? So, you're using underscan to achieve evenly spaced scanlines ? Is that worth it compared to 720p ?
Standard or Normal 2 is a matter of going for straight 4:3 or a wider pixel ratio. Whatever you like best.

Re: XRGB-mini Framemeister (now available !)
Unless I'm missing something the scanlines still look as awful in 1080p as ever.
You can switch scanlines on and off by pressing the C button. This appears to work for all image modes, not just Meister mode (where it can't be turned off).
EDIT: You can use Smart_pos to move the picture around when using the X2 scaling in 1080p. Also assuming that "V_LINE" means vertical lines, shouldn't it be H_LINE instead?

They're much improved at 1080p, they were always better at 720 before but I haven't had a chance to check that yet. Will do shortly.

Re: XRGB-mini Framemeister (now available !)
Scanlines in 1080p SMART_X2 looks great but otherwise they are still too thin.
It doesn't seem like you can switch between odd and even scanlines on all inputs/output combos. You can't in 480i input/720p out, however it seems like the scanlines does match perfectly now in Metal Slug 4 on PS2.

Re: XRGB-mini Framemeister (now available !)
Disconnected the sync from both the Saturn and Megadrive RGB cables but then there was just no picture at all, the mini just displays 'no input'.
This is how the Megadrive cable is wired, does this look right to anyone?
1 = purple
5 = white
7 = black
9 = was yellow but removed
11 = brown
15 = red with cap
16 = connected to 11 via cap
19 = blue with cap
20 = blue with cap

Whoops not true. It looks alright with 480i content but it IS too thin. With 240p it's way too thin and with 480p it just doesn't work.Konsolkongen wrote:Scanlines in 1080p SMART_X2 looks great but otherwise they are still too thin.
I hope they will be able to fik scanlines in SMART_X2 mode in 1080p, have you seen a 480p game like Guilty Gear with auto scaler ON and these settings? It just nails it! It's almost Optoma-scaling quality :O
Of course the picture is smaller but I think I should be able to fix that in the TV's service menu

Please add thicker scanlines to 1080p Micomsoft

Oh wait, I'm confused, I've removed the wrong thing from memory! Hang on I've just trawled through the thread to page 24, seems there never was a consensus on what the issues could be.

Re: XRGB-mini Framemeister (now available !)
Do you know if the cables use composite video or C.sync? When I have had problems like this it always helped when I switched to c.sync.

Hmmm how would I find that out?
Re: XRGB-mini Framemeister (now available !)
Check on the other end of the cable. The MD has dedicated pins for composite video AND for composite sync.

Gotcha, so looking at this diagram I'd be looking for pin 3?

I'll just have a look

Imagine with the use of a spdif to HDMI adapter you could connect a Saturn's RGB output the RGB in, and digital audio output from the Saturn (with mod of course) to the HDMI1 in, and have HQ graphics AND audio coming out of the mini in perfect SYNC!
Re: XRGB-mini Framemeister (now available !)
I think you can only chose the audio to be associated with the HDMI video input. It's meant for DVI sources.
Re: XRGB-mini Framemeister (now available !)
@franjipane: yes, and if it uses Pin 3, change it to Pin 7 and add a capacitor to the line. Didn't fully help on my MD though. When used with an Everdrive I had to add a LM1881 to the cable.

Cracked open the cable and yea, yellow is on 3 so I'll move it to 7. Thanks guys.

Re: XRGB-mini Framemeister (now available !)
You should also add a 75 ohm resistor to the sync line.
