Me too, but it's only natural to be hopeful after 30 years of waiting.
After 30 years of seeing the system destroy every decent movie IP created between 1970 - 1990 I'm completely without hope for anything.
Including Alien. Whether it got destroyed with Alien 3 or Resurrection is up for debate but if it wasn't already raped AvP and it's even more atrocious abomination of a sequel secured it's fate. The fact that the original director is coming back to continue his story with this one is the only thing that gives me hope.
I mean seriously, have you guys seen AvP 'Requiem'? How does something that bad even happen? You would think that Fox would want to do a little bit of quality assurance if it's sinking so many millions into not one, but two storied franchises. I'm sure they made their money back off the dvd but damn. That movie literally ruined Christmas.

Move to Japan. That will make a pirate out of anyone. Arrgggh, matey.

Yes. It difficult to say which was the worse film between the two AVP's, they're both absolutely ungodly. In the first one there were no characters, when the film ended I couldn't recall a single person's name, in the second I hated everyone and wanted them to die, which was only partially taken care of.
2nd one is the worst. It diverts from aliens and predators to a side story where the pizza delivery guy gets his ass kicked for fancying the girl he is delivering to. I thought I was watching 90210
I don't think i've seen a movie delivered so badly in my life.
The first one at least sticks to the expected material matter.
This industry has become 2 dimensional as it transcended into a 3D world.
The story in the first one is fucking hilarious, the idea that the Predators came down and taught ancient Aztecs to build stuff. And then the Predator forms some idiotic alliance with the dumb woman and gives her weapons and stuff. Stupid movie.

The best confirmation of the AVP1 shitpile's creators being either terminally incompetent/apathetic/both is it focusing on a bunch of terrified scientists, then attempting not an Alien-esque horror film where this might work, but an intense action movie ala Aliens/Predator... which rely on protagonists competent enough to create a real sense of struggle and tension. AVP managed to malform its collective source material into the worst of both worlds, a shitty slasher flick with comic book monsters. Brilliant!
Haven't seen the second, out of apathy more than anything. I'm sure it's even worse than the original, but I don't think I'd have watched AVP1 either had it come out a few years later.

They actually pulled that stuff(at least the predators accepting the chick) out of the books
AvP works fine and is inoffensive and oftentimes quite enjoyable as a video game or comic book series, but not as a movie. I'm sure it's possible to make a good AvP film, but the idea has been ruined now.
I'm actually a pretty big fan of the Capcom AvP brawler. Great animations!

I always thought the original Dark Horse comic series was pretty badass (at least when I was in junior high, I'm not sure what I would think of them now). There was a sort of lore around them when I was a kid because they were so violent and from an offbeat publisher.
Pretty much anything that had to do with the great R-rated sci-fi giants of the time (Alien, Predator, Robocop, and Terminator) was instant win. It's a shame to look at the state of these franchises now, though.
Freddy vs. Jason was awesome, it did pretty much exactly what you would expect of a movie with that setup, and basically delivered on everything you would think it would.
Freddy vs. Jason was more fun than a film about a child abuser fighting a retard had any right to be. It was the first movie related to either series I enjoyed since Dream Warriors and The Final Chapter.
I also like the unrated version of the first AVP. I won't make any excuses for its sequel, though. And of course the Capcom brawler and first two PC FPS games are worth playing.

I guess we all have our guilty pleasures. For some reason I like the Resident Evil movies and have seen every one of the things in the theater, and plan to see the new one there too. I'm part of the reason they keep getting made

I like Jason X a whole lot better than Freddy vs. Jason. Jason X is sci fi horror, dammit
Word! It looks like it's trying to go the Alien route in many ways, which simply can't be done properly w/ PG-13.
Now, for some fun. Here are my totally non-confirmed spoiler predictions. They are based on me having the highest post count here at the time of writing.
Just like Alien: The black guy will die
Not sure how they'll pull off the story of anyone surviving, less they leak the story, making Alien, Aliens, and Aliensss a little less plausible. Maybe they never make it back? Hmmm....
The android will be a bad guy.
There will be no shot of Charlize Theron's pussy, unfortunately. I'm sure it's awesome.
The guy that gets bit by the cobra thing in the trailer will be kind of a jack ass, and you'll totally see his demise a mile away

NASA and the Vatican agree that [it is] almost mathematically impossible that we can be where we are today without there being a little help along the way... That’s what we’re looking at [in the film], at some of Erich von Däniken’s ideas of how did we humans come about.[59]
