It seems like the backgrounds are fully 3D, but the textures are maps made of the same 2D art used in the previous installments. Sweet. MS's backgrounds have always had a hi-budget cartoon look to me. :D

I like those new enemy vehicle designs. The gamespot guy needs to read up on his shit though...he didn't mention the three MS handhelds or seem to know that Ralf and Clark came from Ikari Warriors.

Interesting news. Looks like the same Metal Slug fair with some more points of interest, namely the switching between two weapons and the close up attack. Only thing concerning is the whole defense issue. Still no mention of what this refers to? Could have to do with size... I hope it does.

Hope this gets a port. I won't be playing it on Atomiswave, that's for sure.

Interesting point on this. At the show, there were two "versions" of the game running... at least it was running in two different resolutions. 3 machines running it in scaled up high-res mode (or shimmery mode, as some would say) and also one running in true low-res mode. I asked the guy WTF was up w/ that. He said they hadn't decided on which resolution it would ship with, but it looks like at least thus far, resolution is selectable (or there are multiple masters thus far).

Somehow, I think Metal Slug will have just a tiny bit more pull over the console crowd than Dolphin Blue would have.
Where did you get the notion that I was attempting to compare the two? :? There's simply no good reason WHY we shouldn't have a home console release of Dolphin Blue; that's what I'm arguing. Just because it might not do as well as an MS game, doesn't mean it would be a total bomb.

Most Atomiswave games can be displayed in High-Resolution (31khz aka VGA) or Low-Resolution (15khz). The thing is, in high resolution the sprites are going to look horrible since they are 2D low-res. However the backgrounds will look fine since they are going with new pre-renedered high-res ones. In Low-Resolution everything will look okay.

I'm sure ALL Atomiswave games can be displayed in true low res if they developers put the option in there... the hardware is fully capable of it... I just don't think any of them make it so easy, do they?

Right, but even Metal Slug ports don't sell that great. It stands to reason that the first game in a new series would do even worse than a niche series that's six episodes deep with the seventh forthcoming.

I want a Dolphin Blue port, don't get me wrong. But I'd still expect a port of this before we ever see that happen.

There is a switch on the Atomiswave to go between low resolution (15k) to high resolution (31k). Simple as that. Nearly all Arcade monitors are 15k at least. All the newer ones (eh Blast City is from 1996 ~_~) are multi-sync 15/24/31k so it is no problem.
