Or I could just play the tons of games out there that actually have visible bullets. Including Garegga's two Raizing-made "pseudo sequels".Vyxx wrote:Protip - Play with your eyes open.Obscura wrote:Well, I just gave Garegga a few tries. Same shit, different pile. If you're going to hate Garegga, do it for a legitimate reason.
Even from the first time I played the thing, I never had a problem seeing the bullets.

Re: New to bullet hells
The Bullets are NOT that hard to see. Takes a few plays to get a grip on what to and not to focus attention on, plus there is a different version of Garegga with easily visable yellow sphere bullets.Obscura wrote:Or I could just play the tons of games out there that actually have visible bullets. Re: New to bullet hells
The only thing one needs to be aware of is that explosions and shrapnel have sprite priority over boolitz.
This won't be a problem unless you play like a retard and stare at your own ship.

Let's be real here, guys. The bullets in Garegga are pretty hard to see at first. You get used to it, though.
Bakraid is more fun in a number of ways imo, but it seems like it'd be a pain to play for score. Try out Armed Police Batrider. It also has clearly visible bullets. I find it harder, though.

I actually have a harder time seeing bullets in Batrider than Garegga. Your ship's main weapon will always share a palette with one of the enemy bullet types. Again, it's something to get used to, but I tend to choose ships whose shot palette is the same as the destructible bullets for this very reason.Special World wrote:Let's be real here, guys. Garegga doesn't really give me any problems, save on the 3rd stage. I sometimes get blindsided by the gold bullets in the run-up to the boss. In a way it actually forces you to be more mindful of enemy shots.

Well, after a few more plays, my opinion of Bakraid has done a complete 180. Medal chaining is still the least fun scoring mechanic in existence, and the hitboxes in that game literally have NOTHING to do with the sprites (there's either a certain bullet type or the ship that has a hitbox bigger than its sprite).
The fact that it's the easiest Raizing game, and I have literally no hope of ever being able to clear it's fucking training course (partially due to the above issues; I have yet to see a single extend, and I keep getting killed by things that aren't even close to touching me), isn't endearing it, either.

That award goes to Brave Blade, with Souky contending.Obscura wrote:The fact that it's the easiest Raizing game
Also, if you want to talk about the "least fun scoring mechanic in existence," I would like to point you to a little game called Dimahoo.
Re: New to bullet hells
Saying that you don't think you'll ever be able to clear Bakraid Normal Course is really not doing the validity of your opinions any favors.

Batsugun (both versions) recently got working sound in MAME. Much nicer introduction than any 8ing stuff, I'd say.
Re: New to bullet hells
What's wrong with me? What's wrong with the people who designed a scoring system where a single mistake means you lose literally every single scoring opportunity for the entire rest of the game? Drop one medal, and it's time to restart.NzzpNzzp wrote:What is wroooooooong with you?Obscura wrote:Medal chaining is still the least fun scoring mechanic in existence
It's even funnier when the medals get dropped in ways where it's literally impossible to grab them. Like, your homing side gun that you have no control of decides to hit an enemy on the other side of the screen. Or, a medal gets dropped such that it's overlapping a bullet that's aimed downards. Time for a restart because of something I literally had no control over!
Yep, I've never managed to push my score to two million points. I've made it to the cloud stage (on the training course, so 4th level), and the highest my score has ever been is just over a million points.trap15 wrote:image

I used to feel like this but after playing for a while instead of giving up like a baby I found that it's all about awareness and maintaining control of what you're killing. I'm sorry that you can't play raizing games just holding down autofire and strafing the bottom edge of the screen, that's one of the main things I like about them. They make you use the full screen and encourage precision shooting as opposed to simply precise dodging.Obscura wrote:It's even funnier when the medals get dropped in ways where it's literally impossible to grab them. Also the medals have much larger hitboxes than the bullets. It's unfortunate when a bullet ends up right on top of a medal, but after playing for a while it won't be too big of a deal to grab the medal without hitting the bullet.
The medals come out every so many enemies killed. You don't need to constantly be aware of exactly what enemy will drop a medal, but if you just pay enough attention to what items are getting dropped you can get an idea around when a medal will spawn next and you can set yourself up to be able to move to whichever side of the screen it ends up on. If you screw up and there are bullets in the way you can use a bomb to get over there because you have a LOT OF BOMBS and an unplanned use isn't going to wreck an entire scoring run like it would in a Cave game.

Re: New to bullet hells
Besides, medals don't make a huge part of your score in either Garegga or Bakraid.
In Garegga you get huge points for bombing the right stuff.
In Bakraid you get ridiculous scores for correct 64x chaining.

Re: New to bullet hells
Max medals with an active chain in Bakraid are actually worth quite a bit.

Medal chaining is awesome.
Coin chaining is awesome.
Once I figure out what the hell is going on in Dimahoo maybe I'll think it's awesome.
I love item chaining systems. I wish developers had explored these kinds of ideas more.
