XRGB-mini Framemeister
Re: XRGB-mini Framemeister (now available !)
Hello, again
Can I use modified Pal consoles (Megadrive, Saturn, Super Nintendo "all with switch 50/60 and multiregion mod switch too") with the XRGB-mini Framemeister ???
What happen if I used PSX , PS2 , XBOX, Wii all PAL with XRGB-mini Framemeister ? select 60 hz in pal games works ?
Can I convert the signal from them to 60 NTSC any way? (I think that Xbox it´s easy with a modchip but not sure). SOLVE: Enigmah !!!! and others ???

Yes of course you can. PAL60 will work too, its frame rate that's the problem here, as Fudoh explained. Can I use modified Pal consoles (Megadrive, Saturn, Super Nintendo "all with switch 50/60 and multiregion mod switch too") with the XRGB-mini Framemeister ???
Depends on the game, sometimes yes, but very often no. Sometimes yes but with weird things happening like the game running to quickly or parts of the screen chopped off. If the game has a dedicated 60hz option it will be fine. If you force it to 60hz using a console mod then its very hit and miss. What happen if I used PSX , PS2 , XBOX, Wii all PAL with XRGB-mini Framemeister ? select 60 hz in pal games works ?
See above. Xbox you don't need to worry about, it supports 480p anyway (modchip needed for this on PAL machines). Same with the Wii. If your asking is there some magic way to make 50hz (PAL) games into 60hz (NTSC) then the answer is no.Can I convert the signal from them to 60 NTSC any way? (I think that Xbox it´s easy with a modchip but not sure). SOLVE: Enigmah !!!! and others ???

Re: XRGB-mini Framemeister (OT)
I'm hoping this will be a definitive RGB solution for the Saturn! RGB Breakout box with switches to control what is fed to pin 13 (Cv, Y, CSYNC w/wo/capacitor). I might even build a sync buffer I shared some pages back.

Re: XRGB-mini Framemeister (now available !)
I think the Saturn's RGB picture is very, very good already. What do you hope to improve?

Re: XRGB-mini Framemeister (now available !)
Nothing with this box, this is just for connectivity and switchable sync modes. Each Saturn I own or have tried outputs different quality. While not the vast differences that exist between SNES versions, all but one JP Saturn I've tried output a softer/darker/noisier RGB signal than ideal. I think this is in part due to the ferrite filters on the Saturn's output (varies with each console rev), and the 220uF caps on the RGB encoder output. So, I plan to replace the 220uF output caps on my current primary Saturn, and replace the ferrite filters with those ferrite beads (technically both are "filters") to see if I can get the picture a bit sharper, cleaner, and brighter! The fully wired 10 pin mini din cable assembly pictured is a Yaesu T9207451.Konsolkongen wrote:I think the Saturn's RGB picture is very, very good already. What do you hope to improve?

Re: XRGB-mini Framemeister (now available !)
Will you let us know how it turned out after you have replaced the stuff in your Saturn?
Dedicated RCA outputs for sound is a nice touch as well. I don't know if you own an amplifier with digital input but there is a mod that enables digital audio from a Saturn. I did it on mine and it sounds pretty nice

Re: XRGB-mini Framemeister (now available !)
Will do! Yes, I recently finished a SNES digital audio mod using a CS8406 and it's AWESOME! Even using a cheapie DAC there's a vast improvement! The Saturn is my next system and plan to wire the output for balanced digital (AES/EBU)!Konsolkongen wrote:Will you let us know how it turned out after you have replaced the stuff in your Saturn?

Kewl! I might try that with my SNES someday too. I went with optical toslink for my Saturn. Turned out pretty nice:

tried Scanlines mode (meister) on xbox360 with HDMI
set xbox360 at 720p (can't try 480p in hdmi, only component work)
set xrgb-mini output to 1080p
meister mode
result: strange horizontal lines on the image

Is using a less cheap DAC a way to make the SNES digital audio sound even better or something?RGB32E wrote:Will do! Yes, I recently finished a SNES digital audio mod using a CS8406 and it's AWESOME! Also, what's a good quality Euro to Japanese SCART cable you guys would recommend?

I would recommend you to resolder the supplied RGB21 to 8 mini din that comes with the XRGB-Mini. It's a lot smarter than using adapter cables if you live in Europe and already have a lot of SCART cables

Re: XRGB-mini Framemeister (now available !)
Yeah... what he said, or just build one from scratch like I've done (I don't ship International). The problem with rewiring the included JP21 pin adapter is that you'd still be feeding audio into the mini for digitization. You could always add audio out when rewiring though.Konsolkongen wrote:I would recommend you to resolder the supplied RGB21 to 8 mini din that comes with the XRGB-Mini. Re: XRGB-mini Framemeister (now available !)
Well.. let me put it this way. I picked up one of these - http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdet ... er=180-997Hamburglar wrote:Is using a less cheap DAC a way to make the SNES digital audio sound even better or something?
When ABX'ing between my CD players analog out, and the analog output from the cheapie DAC (connected to the same CD player via coaxial SPDIF), the difference in sound quality was significant! Hence, a better DAC - whether in a receiver, pre-processor, or external DAC, would give you a better quality signal. As to if this is worthwhile... YMMV! If you're just using TV speakers, then this isn't for you!

Thanks, I'm an idiot. I thought you meant you used a cheap chip inside your SNES for the digital audio. I was thinking there's better ones or something!RGB32E wrote:Well.. let me put it this way. I will do that, thanks! I am about to buy myself an XRGB Mini (they went down a few bucks at Solaris Japan). I have euro SCART cables for all my consoles (I'm in the USA). Do I need to buy anything else besides (obviously) and HDMI cable to get everything ready to work?Konsolkongen wrote:I would recommend you to resolder the supplied RGB21 to 8 mini din that comes with the XRGB-Mini. Re: XRGB-mini Framemeister (now available !)
If you know how to solder you can rewire the lead that comes with it. If you are not confident soldering then I am going to release an adaptor by end of next week which will work with Euro SCART and fix any sync issues as you may have read about in tihs thread. I am just in testing stage at the moment with various revisions of console.Hamburglar wrote:Thanks, I'm an idiot. I thought you meant you used a cheap chip inside your SNES for the digital audio. If you rewire the lead you may experience some sync issues with SNES, portable CD versions of Genesis and 32X as has already been mentioned. Neo Geo, Saturn, Genesis 2 and the one chip SNES all seem to work fine with sync or composite based RGB cables.
Good thing about Euro SCART is it has the 5-12V pin attached. I never used to attach 5V in my XRGB cables as they are prone to being bought by accident by people with SCART TVs/SCART based scalers. The voltage is required to power a sync buffer that I am going to produce.
Re: XRGB-mini Framemeister (now available !)
Hi!
Has anyone connected a Commodore 64 to the Framemeister? Using the Cable i got only gives me a Black & White distorted Picture.
Thanks!

Re: XRGB-mini Framemeister (now available !)
The Mini can't accept PAL composite or s-video. To feed a PAL C64 to a Mini you have to convert the composite or s-video output to RGB or component first (and then the current PAL-hickups still apply).
Re: XRGB-mini Framemeister (now available !)
JVC X'Eye has better output than my Sega CDX. Picture is a bit brighter and sound seems clearer.
Re: XRGB-mini Framemeister (now available !)
Any Suggestion for a good but not too pricey (if that is possibleFudoh wrote:The Mini can't accept PAL composite or s-video. To feed a PAL C64 to a Mini you have to convert the composite or s-video output to RGB or component first (and then the current PAL-hickups still apply).

Re: XRGB-mini Framemeister (now available !)
Do you have DVD or DVD/HDD recorder at home ? If you do, you can pass the C64 through it and output RGB or component from it.

Re: XRGB-mini Framemeister (now available !)
Also bear in mind, for a far superior picture if you have an 8 pin socket on your C64 it can handle S-video too.
Re: XRGB-mini Framemeister (now available !)
I haven't been here for a few weeks. I made up a custom cable from a 50cm VGA cable and an 8 pin mini-DIN connector. Soldering that thing was a total PITA. Bit of a hack job but it works. Once I confirmed it was working I covered all the solder joints in hot glue to make sure I never have to do that ever again
Working 100% with all Mega Drive games now. Some games were cutting out but the Sync Strike saved the day. Super Famicom is working but the colours look washed out. I think the SCART cable is to blame. It doesn't have the 220uF capacitors that should be there according to this page.
I'm using a single 3.2A 5V power supply to power both the Framemeister and Sync Strike, with a CCTV power splitter and adaptor cable for that weird power connector on the Framemeister.
ArcadeForge should make a Sync Strike with a SCART output and DC power connector. That would have saved me a lot of trouble...

Is my framemeister doa?
Or is there something obvious that I'm overlooking?
I'm getting absolutely no picture on the tv, tried 2 different hdmi inputs on the tv and two different hdmi cables. I'm plugged into the hdmi out on the mini. I have a power LED and a output link LED on the mini and when i press power I can toggle standby on and off. But no image, or any recognition on the tv that anything is plugged into it. I've tried ps2 and wii via component and nothing, and I can't make anything appear by pressing the menu button or any buttons, on the unit or the remote. I also tried the 480p panic button. Am I missing something here? Any advice appreciated!
Oh, also, I'm in the UK and using a 45VA USA to UK stepdown transformer. That shouldn't cause any problems should it?

Re: XRGB-mini Framemeister (now available !)
Without a source you should at least get a blue background. Try switching into DVI mode (on top of the remote), it's more compatible and should default to XGA. Using a stepdown converter isn't a problem and 45 watts are plenty of reserves.

Your stepdown in addition to lower voltage to around 110v do change the power frequency to 60Hz too, right?anticipating wrote:Or is there something obvious that I'm overlooking?

Your TV support 60Hz over HDMI?? I assume they all do but you might have some weird TV who know.
Re: XRGB-mini Framemeister (now available !)
Stepdown converters over here keep the output at 50Hz, but that's ok. For japanese units anyway since Japan has areas which are running on 50Hz power and others running on 60Hz power.

Thanks... and as for the HDMI the answer is yes, my pc is connected to HDMI and it displays 50hz and 60hz just fine...
