I just found the option to play UD in full screen tate Arcade mode.
You still need to be in widescreen from the console menu, but in game go to screen options and select wallpaper 'type clear'. It's a little overscanned, but no borders, and the actual overscan option now zooms the head up display only(!)
You can toggle the HUD with aspect ratio as well.
Edit: The HUD toggle options only seem to be available from the in game pause screen, not the one in the menu before you start...
Excellent find! This does work quite well (overscan is very slight but completely negligible). I'll add this info to the comparison GD just so the information is available elsewhere.
Does this fix the tate slowdown issue? This also doesn't sound like a proper fix but certainly a good work around until a patch is released. If a patch is released.
And reading this thread there appear to be plenty of issues that still need fixing.. :/ What are the chances?
doesn't matter too much to me though since I can't play it period. My LE just came in this morning. I don't have a jap 360, but I figured I'd be able to rip it to an .iso and convert from there to play on my jtag. I can't figure out how to rip the damn .iso, so unless one pops up on the web somewhere I have a nice $100 paperweight.
well I figured out how to get it to play on my jtag. Can't say that I'm not disappointed in the non wide screen support. If you're playing on a CRT this is about the best you're gonna get with the in game settings.
It looks stretched, but it actually is 4:3. the top and bottom are bordered. You can't go above the continue. I'm just dumbfounded. How much fucking effort does it take to get this right. On a 29" CRT it's not unplayable, but still, Fuck you Grev. Like I really needed another reason to feel dumb for paying $92 to import this game. When you don't get the fucking basics right all the other shit stops mattering. I'm not a computer programmer, so please someone explain to me what is so hard about having independent x and y scaling in every game.
And if they patch it I'm still fucked, because I'm playing on a jtag. Fuck patches. It's not ok to put out a half assed game and then go back and fix it later.
I love CRT's and tate mode myself including arcade realism, but i hope people realize this is Under Defeat "HD". That said, purists are gonna get shafted as they are trying to attract a new audience, not just the die hard fans of the genre. Not an opinion but an observation. Still love this game despite it's flaws.

They'd have to be delusional to think that their main consumer base isn't the die hard fans of the genre, and many of them will want 4:3 support. Furthermore having proper 4:3 support wouldn't possibly stop someone from buying this game.

True, I just think the die hard fan is a minority compared to the potential for new shmup fans that are not playing these games. This is business and Grev is looking to make paper. I have my own business and if i only catered to my existing clients then i would not be moving forward. I agree that it would not be difficult to at least provide proper 4:3 support.

The screen options are seriously goofy. It just doesn't make any sense the way they did it.
if you have bordered wallpaper your ship can't move above or below the HUD text like you would expect and you have black borders or whatever. When you have the clear wallpaper on you can move below the HUD text. Adjusting the overscan just affects the HUD, so you either have to deal with the HUD being in the field of play or just turn the overscan way up until it goes off the screen. Which would mean no keeping track of bombs or score.
The best thing to do is set the aspect ration to 16:10. It allows you to move the HUD slightly more out of the playfield without cutting it off due to overscan.

I guess you can't read. My post was in response to this:

I was specifically saying that drawing in a larger audience does not necessitate removing 4:3 support or the other basics that the hardcore players want, whether UD has proper 4:3 support is irrelevant to my post.

You have to set the 360 to widescreen in the console settings, that is now the only issue with running this game in 4:3. I've got mine pretty much perfect, with only a bit of one of the bomb icons and the last two letters of 'Please Wait/Press Start' on the 2p side cut off, and the HUD is enough in the outer perimeter of the playfield not to obscure my vision.
You can use the screen positioning to prioritize the small amount of HUD that is cut off anyway.
I can't believe G-rev hid the 4:3 option in the wallpaper settings, of all places, considering I bet most of us trying to tate this thing went straight to the 'black' setting and forgot about it.

I'm playing it yoko, zoomed so that the image is the full height of my screen and the press start of P2 is slightly cut off there as well.

So is NCSX the only confirmed site for preorders? I've used AmiAmi for my last couple and they've been great. Fast shipping and good prices. Is it safe to assume they'll have preorders up soon?
Just had a quick go in my EGRET II. Thanks a lot for posting the "set console to Widescreen" fix. I had no problems getting a perfect full screen image. Should they patch it I would be happier, but at least it's not as crazy as DeathSmiles 2 Arcade mode to get a good picture.
Too bad the New Order mode OST can't be used in the Arcade version though.

I just checked out the strategy section and read that there are no extends. How would the experienced UD player's rank a 1CC in terms of difficulty?
I can't 1cc it on anything but easy (but got close in normal!). I think the game is a little easier than the average shmup, and it gives you plenty of bombs. You just have to be quicker with your bomb finger.
burgerkingdiamond wrote:I just checked out the strategy section and read that there are no extends. How would the experienced UD player's rank a 1CC in terms of difficulty?
I recently looped the DC version.
I think it's a hard game, but if you're going for a single 1CC it shouldn't be overly difficult. There are no extends, but the extra bombs given in every stage are great to move along without much pain.
On the other hand, getting the criteria for a loop or trying to score higher will demand a lot more in terms of strategy and dedication.
Without any means of extends it's pretty hard I think. There are quite a few bombs, but you'll die with 4-5 in stock frequently. I think the stage 3 midboss is considerably harder than the DC version. I used to take him out without bombs easily. Now I'd lose 1-2 lives if I didn't use any bombs due to the shots being much faster.
I assume you'd need to no miss to stage 1-4 minimum to stand any chance whatsoever (possibly even the 1-4 boss); which is an achievement in itself.
Edit.. hmm.. does rank affect bullet speed or just cause additional enemies to appear?

Eh if I could clear Raiden Fighters 2 I can at least get the first loop of this, it'll just take a little time. It's a very different sort of game. I don't feel it's as fast as everyone is saying it is, but it definitely requires a different sort of dodging approach.
1CC ListTo miss is human; to rank control, divine.
Is anybody here liking the twin stick controls? could be a reason for the increased bullet speed and difficulty. I can play a hell of a lot better than i did even when i used my stick.

Can someone confirm that you can't speedkill that third boss like you can in the arcade version? ie: option rocket to the one wing to destroy it and then just hammer the other wing with the gun until it drops so that you avoid the second and third phases of it.
Can't get anywhere near to killing it before it goes to the second phase.
Edit: Hmm... you can kill it, but it's much harder.

I think they're ok, but I'm not a fan of the analog sticks. If you could play it with two ball tops like Robotron that would be fucking rad.

That sounds like a change for the better to me. I usually speed kill the boss. But, to be honest, you need that "stepping through evenly spaced vulcan fire stream" skill on the final boss. The fact that I never learned to deal with the st3 boss properly always bit me when I got to the end of the game.

He can actually still be speed killed.
Stepping through the fire isn't too bad, the problem is the missiles always get in the way or force you to go before you are really ready.
