Just used our short exchange over what you preferred about 1.5 to BL as an example of it being easier to just accept that if something about a game doesn't click with someone, there's no sense in labouring the point to get them to see your side. Not everyone likes everything the same way.

The sad thing is that there are people here that feel everyone should enjoy these games EXACTLY like they do.

I admit I'm a sucker for scoring systems - that's what draws me in.

Clearing a game is just an added bonus.

I'm proud of what I've accomplished - cause frankly, I suck at any video game 32 bit or newer.

The Japanese Cave shop never went down. The international shop is still mysteriously closed.

Game looks ok..can't say I'm too keen on the stripping designs of what I assume are the new element dolls on expert mode (Pixiv is catching on ALREADY). The music isn't really sounding like my thing this time..

Will wait and see..

Looks like it'll be at the AOU show this year after all. Last time I went to one of those was to see the Muchi Pork loke test.

The red kanji means "complete", so maybe this is the full game? The release date is April 14th though...

"Complete", "finished" or "end". I do hope they're referring to the full game, because considering the game's title and the current state of Cave I wouldn't want to run into words along the lines of the latter.

Yea, that kanji by itself at the end of a book or something means "The End" so maybe this is it.

That said, both DOJ and DFK were supposed to be the last in the series.

Try announced their pricing for the kit, Y186,900. Y50,000 deposit required for preorders. They've already had like 10 preorders from the local collectors and believe they'll h ave the lowest price on the block. It'll be interesting to see how many SH3s Cave has left.

EDIT: Try revised their price upwards.

How many do they usually sell? Didn't they say that they can make a new arcade game after 500 sales or something?

Nothing too interesting. Theres going to be another loc. test with changes based on what was recommended by people from the last loc test. Theres going to be some new character(s) added, and the sound has been improved(?). Voice actors and artists for the game will be in attendance as well. The the post goes on to mention why the title Saidaioujou was chosen.

A new character? I wonder if this could be an all-new Type D ship.

EOJ over at cave-stg found this flier that clinches it, the kan is part of the title now. Sayonara, suckers!

But like you said, DOJ was going to be the last and look how that turned out. If this does well, Cave's credit will go on.

btw, the "beginners to pro players can enjoy it" remark at the top of the flier means more easy, scrubby 1-ALL's in this one.

I was thinking that the criticism about the strip-girl thing might've had a larger majority so they replaced it with something new. Probably a Type D though.

You are complaining that on the easiest difficulty this game might constitute a relatively simple 1cc, and in doing so ignite an interest in players who previously have always found the games too hard? that's a good thing if more players get over their initial frustration and stick more credits into the cab. Or would you prefer it if only people who could Ura 2-all ketsui could play it?

Settle down, tiger. I like Cave games that are a kick in the teeth even just for survival, and I am not alone in this opinion. Cave has been doing the "easy clear, hard to score" thing for a few years now and it evidently isn't setting the world on fire with popularity. Ask arcade players in Japan how fun it is when some guy gives up on his run in DFK but it takes forever for the credit to run out because of the autobomb.

Nothing you just said relates to the idea of getting new players into the genre. Cave's recent games have been all about choices, for example DFKBL allowing you vastly different styles, autobomb on/off etc. and those choices seem to be present in SDJ as well. Giving these choices to players to accomidate different skill levels is a staple of game development these days, and a good thing. You can still play on expert if you want to. It also seemed that autobomb uses all your bombs in stock when activated.

From the videos it also appears that as hypers aren't bullet cancelling all the time that scoring and surviving are interlinked more. So tell me, what's your problem again?

Well, I don't know how my posts sound, but I don't have much of a problem with this game and was only making a sort of "oh well" comment regarding the difficulty. I like Cave's older style of difficult no matter what your goal is. Their past few games I've beaten after a couple of tries, I miss the real intimidating Cave. I think it's within my rights to have that preference.

I don't care about new players getting into the genre. This is a very particular style of game and it's not a popular one and never will be. Cave has held on for an amazing amount of time and put out a huge library. This past generation they've done port after port and made their games more accessible both in format and difficulty options. Doesn't seem to be working all that well as they struggle to hold on, but maybe this game will turn it all around. I kind of doubt it since there aren't any radical changes and it feels more like a goodbye and thank you to the fans.

I've also played SDOJ. I liked the high difficulty and how hypers weren't cancelling bullets all the time, but that was the loke test version and those are always harder.

I find it somewhat disappointing that you have such a negative view of the genre in terms of popularity. You only have to look at games like Super Meat Boy to see that "old school" games when presented properly can do well.

For Cave specifically i don't think they have ever really tried to advertise their games properly, i.e. actually spending money on it properly. They have the games getting 8/10 reviews etc. with positive comments but they don't really capitalise on this.

I really hope at some point the old school niche married with not totally shit graphics makes these games something vaguely resembling popular eventually

No. It says "10 years from Daioujou, and... farewell..." on the flyer. It's most certainly the final game in the pachi series though.

Now, perhaps if it said "x years since <Cave's first arcade release>", we'd be able to roll with that theory.
