I decided to go with RGB32E's amp but followed Moosmann's suggestion and removed the 1000pF's on the outputs (I think that's what you meant, right?) I can easily add those if the picture sucks without them. It will probably be easier to add to the board once installed than removing stuff, as I be gluing it upside down (NJM's facing upwards).

Here is what the bottom side looks like now with separately shielded RGB and Sync wires to the PPU:

Anyone got the pinout for XSync-1 8 pin din RGB out and XRGB-mini 8 pin mini-din in?

I know someone in this thread did it, was it just straight pin to pin?

Thank that's a nice and easy to understand schematic. However I will be using the NJM2267 for this mod, so that's completely different :)

Is the THS7314 better in your opinion? It certainly is a lot simpler :)

The THS7314 have an active LPF 5.Order and is is very cheap and easy to get. I works great for the Famicom RGB Mod.

Alright, sounds promising enough. I'll still try out RGB32E's mod first and if that for some reason doesn't work well I can try this other one :)

I'll have to agree with Moosman here... :shock: 8) However, I'm still using the NJM2267 amp in my NES, and haven't replaced it with a THS yet... :? So give it a shot with the NJM amp! Like mentioned before, the whole reason why I put 1100 pF caps to ground on the output was to make a 1st order LPF to reduce jailbars. It didn't seem like CSYNC needed this, so I left it out when making that diagram for the gamesx wiki. 1000pF caps displayed in the diagram were more conservative than 1100pF. When I tried 1200pF, I didn't get a signal (must have removed too much info!).

Haha :D Well I guess I better order a couple of THS7314's as well :D

It's no problem, perhaps I can use this NJM amp in a future PC-Engine Duo-R mod :)

Or you could use the THS7314 in your Duo-R mod! :mrgreen:

I can chime in a bit about the NES RGB stuff. (And after reading that the XRGB Mini makes jailbars go away, I pretty much have to order one now).

Anyway, I've bought several different PPUs (even the extremely rare Top Gun PPU) and they all give the same jailbars. I have a toaster, an AV Famicom, and an NES2 all RGB modded. When using the RGB amp linked here that's from Japan, the jailbars got way better in my toaster. However, with a PowerPak, the problem is still very much there. Using a retail game, an AV Famicom, the Japanese-made RGB amp, and even the most jailbar-loving screens (Super Mario Bros 1 blue background or Mega Man stage select) I cannot see the jailbars at all, and I have a very sharp eye for them (look at all I spent trying to get rid of them).

The problem is almost entirely from the Powerpak, because as soon as I use it, the jailbars show up again. However, I don't think it's from any interference inside the Powerpak. I believe it's because it's pulling more power from the NES.

I further confirmed the PowerPak possibly being to blame for the jailbars because I even have the SNES PowerPak *and* an SNES Everdrive. I tested Final Fantasy 6's title screen which makes the ugly vertical streak very noticeable (on a model 1 SNES). On a model 2 SNES, it's not there when using the Everdrive; when using the PowerPak, the vertical bar that I thought could only be seen in a model 1 SNES was right there! Again, only when using the PowerPak.

Just something to think about!

(PS: What's all the problems people are having with SNES on the Mini?)

I tried doing this mod w/ the THS amplifier on various AV / New Famicoms and every time, it would slowly kill
my Famicom (the screen would get more and more corrupted and eventually be unusable).
However, when I did the exact same mod on a toaster NES, I had no problems at all.

Does this RGB amp require that you increase the amperage on the power supply? I was using
the standard AC adapter that came with the AV Famicom.

Heh, all this NES RGB amping seems to vary a lot huh? :)

Anyway, here is the finished RGB amp:

I'm using shielded wires to, and from the amp. The gray cable is going to the AV out socket, and usually gives a great picture when I have used it for RGB cables. It has 8 wires but as you can see I used two for each RGBs signal. 5V to the AV socket (for European scart TV's) will be using a separate shielded wire, and the audio will as well. I think it's safe to say that grounding won't be an issue here :)

The twisted white wires you can see is the 5V to the NJM's. Do you think I would gain anything if I used shielded wires here?

Besides the resistors being on the wrong side, I think it has turned out alright. I chose to add the 1000pF's to the RGB lines like RGB32E suggested. If they fuck up anything I can easily cut them off again.

Some questions from somebody who is very close to buying an XRGB Mini:

All my RGB SCART cables are for European SCART. Is the XRGB Mini going to work with that? Or am I going to have to go and rewire every one of these cables now?

Is there any reason to use the XRGB Mini *with* a DVDO Edge? I already have an Edge. Would using it with the XRGB Mini be a good thing, a bad thing, or neither? Remember, I am buying the Mini mostly for old game systems like the SNES, NES, Genesis.

I am in the USA, so I need to plug this thing into a stepdown transformer, correct?

Personally I see no reason to daisy chain two video processor. It would only add an additional delay. To me the mini perform very well alone.

No need, I run myself quite a few Japanese 90v AC adapter on 120v without any issue for many years.

Ack! All my cables are European SCART (except for the SNES/NES one because that's made by Nintendo of Japan). How am I supposed to rewire a 32x, Sega Genesis (model 1), and a Sega Saturn SCART cable? Is there actually a diagram out there for all of those?

You don't rewire your cables, but you rewire the included FEMALE JP SCART > MINIDIN8 adapter or get an additional one for EU SCART > MINIDIN8.

BTW, I picked up a SHVC-CPU-01 yesterday and tried it with the mini... It was bad! :shock: The image was extremely soft, a little noisy, and kept loosing sync (dropouts every 5-10 seconds)! This was with the same AC adapter and RGB cable I use with my 1-CHIP. I'm curious to try swapping out the 2200uF cap in the CPU-01 system to see if there's an improvement.

Thank you. All I have to search for is "MINIDIN8 SCART" and make sure it's European? That's it? It doesn't even need to be made by Micomsoft?

Also, all this talk of SNES not working properly is getting me kind of nervous!

If you guys need female scart connectors, I should be able to get some here on Germany and ship them over. Shouldn't be too expensive and I'm happy to help out.

Have you got a Extron RGB interface you can try?

Have you got a Extron RGB interface you can try?
I will have soon an Extron RGB, an XRGB Mini, and 4 different SNES models (1 launch, 1 1CHIP, one RGB-02, and one SNES2) and I can try just about anything you like.

Placing the Mini on top of a center loudspeaker. Could that harm the Mini?

I don't see how personally, but it never hurts to ask when we are dealing with such expensive stuff as this...

Actually, it depends. I had all SCART cables on my setup and tried using a SCART to Japan RGB adapter. It didn't work. I've since switched to all JPN RGB cables, and get nice output (with the exception of the SNES). I have the SNES currently hooked up via s-video and am pretty happy with the results.

Why is everyone having issues with the SNES and the XRGB Mini? SNES is 90% of what I play, so I'm a bit nervous here.
