bpe: there is a shooting game section in pretty much every shop that sells games.

I couldnt find harmful park anywhere. Superpotatoe warned me that it was very expensive, then told me they have none in stock. Those guys have some damned expensive games. RSGun was like $160, then there was the glass case with some titles upward of $1000.

I ended up picking up Taito Memories 1, and Einhander, which I cant wait to play again. I had bought that game when it came out but someone made off with it some time ago.

Its been a good trip. I feel good about buying some hardcopies of games I have already been enjoying on MAME. Too bad theyre secondhand though, the Develoeprs will not get my cash :(

You may want to keep an extreme eye out for Sega Ages 2500 Series Vol. 25: Gunstar Heroes: Treasure Box which is to be released in september, by treasure.

Hey, if you manage to find "Gradius in Classic" while you're there, I will pay you handsomely for it :(

Hm, the shop might have been a Sofmap on the corner across the Mac store, left of a Donut Shop. Second floor is all used PS1 and PS2 games, with other floors for used dreamcast etc... Good stuff.

Here's a Map of Akihabara, and some of my thoughts:

Thanks for the map! I was in Akihabara a couple of months ago, and had forgotten the names of some of those places so it's great to have a reminder. Medialand was my favourite shop - absolutely incredible, the top floor was crammed full of Saturn and PC Engine titles, and I think I came out of that store with about 20 games in all. I can't wait to go back there sometime. Happy memories.

Yeah, Medialand can make you soil your trousers, but their prices are usually way too high. I think Trader2 has been giving them a good run for their money. I'm not in Japan anymore, so can't really update the map at will, but will try to add some more shops and pictures after a trip in the fall.

bpe wrote:Hmmm :) Do you remember what was on the other floors ? Ie was it a CD/DVD/porn kind of thing, or more electronics, computers, etc.. Was this on the Hey side of the street, or across ?

I'm a little bored atm so I might hop over and try go find it, so any extra info is welcome :)
I am afraid that's all I remembered. I think it's on the HEY side(80% sure).

I do remember I paid 4000 Yen for the used DC(Boxed and everything). :)

Yes, that map kicks some serious booty ! I used it to locate Mak, unfortunately the PCB prices were a bit too steep :|

Just one thing though, last time I checked it, there was a McDonalds marked across Smoker Style (for some reason I can't get to the map now to see if it still says that). That McD is gone, but there is one much further along the same side of the road.

So it's a convenient landmark (I tried to navigate by it first time I went), unfortunately if you use it you're almost back in Ueno :)

Anyway here's a pic of said Sofmap (where I picked up a used PS2 for 16000 yen, yeay me :) ).

Oh and they have new mushi copies with a little doll inside.

Thanks, bpe. I don't live in Tokyo (or Japan for that matter) at the moment, so can't just pop down and check. I am, however, visiting soon and will update the map. Can't believe Mac moved... at least it's there. More than a few times I had to run in there just to take a dump. It's like the only can you can use in Akihabara. :)
