"Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner" was a Japan-only 1995 Saturn game. The sequel, "Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers", was fan-translated recently, but the original game was left alone. The two newer Devil Summoner games are completely localized in English, yes.

Soul Hackers is being fan translated, but it's quite a ways from completion.

Small update, but we've successfully cracked the text code! More to come!

Image

Once this is finalized, we start work on the final product. Well, then we work on the fun part: devising how to patch the sucker.

Hopefully. I'm maintaining the dialogues. The lead hacker is Esper, but I'll definitely pass it on.

The hacking tool is finally done. Now the real work begins. The game has been genuinely cracked.

All we have to do is implement(and finalize) the text.

By the by, the text is graphic based, hence the difficulties.

Can we ask for a next translation project? I've never played the game you are translating but now that it's translated, i'm interested on it.

So, as i said before, what do you think about Hellsinker as the next translation project?

In a dream world: Castle Shikigami 2

More likely: Growlanser PSP

I'm not familiar with Hellsinker, but feel free to fill me in.

Okay gents(and ladies?): it's game time.
I could ask at Romhacking, but I decided this board deserves first dibs.

I'm now taking volunteers for beta testing!

Requirements/preferences:

*Skilled at(or at least passively familiar with) danmaku. Shikigami is bullet hell.
It isn't ludicrous, but it's still pretty dang tough. Final boss is an endurance trial.
You can not harm her.

*Tolerance for cheesy dialogue. It's Shikigami, people!
Bonus points if you can read Japanese and want to compare my script to the original's.

*System requirements? Pfft. If you can run SOLITAIRE, you can run Shikigami.
My netbook runs this game.

PM me here or send me an email if you're interested.

Kuga's campaign is 95% complete, and entirely playable.

I still have no volunteers for beta testing, so contact me at your leisure if interested.

Is horrendous voice acting courtesy of shumps forum members also a possibility? I'd love that.

The game has minimal voice acting. Just assorted in-game quips(i.e. their death cries and bombing lines), sadly. I'm leaving it as is.

I've got two volunteers counting you, which is a fine start. Send me a PM with an email contact if applicable and I'll get the files out to you soon.

Okay, I'm gonna poll you guys, because this board has been by far the most receptive to my crazy labor of love.

Image

Fumiko O.V., her reputation precedes her.

Here's where it gets interesting.

XS Games in Shikigami 1('MLF2') and 2 called her 'Ozette Van Stein'.

However, Aksys Games calls her 'Odette' Van Stein in Shikigami 3.

Personally, I'm way in favor of the former.

It has a better flow to it, and Fumiko is half-German.

But the latter is definitely the actual translation, confirmed.

So: do we go for what sounds better, or what's real?

(Disclaimer: I have no knowledge of the German language whatsoever.

Any Germans who want to sound off, your input is very welcome.)

I'd say go for whats real, I't would be weird for me to play shiki 1 after playing 3 and her naming being different.

I'd say go with Odette, even though it is hardly a German name to begin with.
Personally I like Fumiko the best, but just because it doesn't sound that awkward to me.

Fumiko has always been her name. O[d/z]ette is a surname.

Fumiko O.V. - Ozette Van Stein.

Fumiko's script is 100% complete and playable as of now.

Image
(The circled region is a small glitch occurring as the result of our patch, but blink and you miss it.)

Remaining: Sayo, Kim, Tagami, and Gennojo. Them, the endings, the gallery, and the credits, and the game is pretty much done, pending some touch up work(and possibly title screen shenanigans).

Find me a place besides megaupload that won't get shut down. :P

Seriously though, I'll get with you soon. I think I'll wait until we have the entire script is done before taking on more testers.

That said:

Sayo tiem!

Script implementation is now at 50%!

Now IN VIDEO!

http://www.twitch.tv/cj_iwakura/b/307584042

This is a recording of Fumiko's playthrough, completely in English.

The ending still has yet to be patched, but that's due soon.

Disclaimer: I am not very good. In fact, I kind of suck.
But it's the translation that I mean to show off, first and foremost.

Do you need web hosting? I could provide free hosting as long as nothing copyrighted (i.e. the game itself) is uploaded.

Gennojo's almost done! (That one guy here with the Genny avatar should be happy. And he's got plot twists in Shikigami 1 that are like nothing else for him in the other two games.)
