In Utah, there is a little place called Fun Unlimited up north. They've got Raiden, Zero Gunner, Strikers 1945 I and II, Sonic Wings I and II, and Asteroids, plus a ton of fighters, and a couple racers - including a semi-working Power Drift. They've got a Nintendo PlayChoice too, and a lot of the cabinets are for sale. Pretty nice actually, though some of the machines are a little funky. Luckily, most games are 25c a credit! :P

Cool to hear of another American arcade opening up for business for the first time sporting some Japanese candy cabs. The owner sounds like he's a hard-core shmupper with the titles he's got up & running.

I've noticed that they've ran into some slight problems trying to get the arcade open but those are just birthing pains & are to be expected as usual. It's all part of doing business. As for some hard-core arcade gamers bitching about the setups, you can't please everyone. Sad but true.

As for the indy arcade scene in Modesto, CA, the very last indy arcade to be well stocked with arcade shmup titles, Nickel Play, closed it's doors in May of 1998 and another one hasn't been seen since then.

However, there is the indy arcade in Riverbank, CA, called Beto's but it's temporarily closed for now. Doesn't have any dedicated arcade shmups whatsoever -- although I'm sure they could carry some if asked.

At the very least, my own private arcade is well stocked & do have a better selection than the corporately-owned arcades: Boomers!, Funworks & John's Incredible Pizza (a pizza/arcade joint) based in Modesto. Sign of the times.
