The thing I don't get is how, when I asked my ex-host father in Kyoto (very funny guy, liked Evangelion and games but was normal in appearance) what he thought of Kim Jong Il, he responded "I like him. Great man." Needless to say I was stunned. Could this have been a typical passive Japanese lie to avoid conflict? So I probed him/asked again. He said, "Yes, I berieve he make good fortune for Korean people." And I was under the impression that the Japanese and NK are sworn enemies. Maybe he was just a nut. IDK.
