The US 'Cube cover of Ikaruga is gorgeous - it's just a shame about that feckin' stupid quote from IGN It really destroys its simplicity. I'd also like to give a mention to the DC version of SNS II - not ground-breaking but really moody.

Winner.
Everytime I look at that cover, it pisses me off b/c I got the American version that look like dog poo. Can someone please tell why the Japanese and American art has to be different most of the time and we end up being screwed over?

It's called "marketing research". Or rather, they claim to have done one. But it's probably a decision taken in a stupid meeting where people who actually think they know about these kind of things have discussed it for hours...
I've never cared for the JP Einhander cover...too abstract and generic. I mean, how long did it take them to photoshop a stock image of an x-rayed hand and do a text overlay? The US cover isn't anything special, but at least it's custom artwork.
Ikaruga would be high on my list, but the cover artwork on the JP/PAL cube versions suck ass, and the US version is of course plagued with the IGN quote. The DC version's cover (and booklet in general) is by far the best of the bunch.

Whats so great about that cover? Its cool because of the "corny" humor? I see no artistic value in that cover...at least the others show hours of someone's hard work and artistic talent.
How would you like it if you sat down and drew something that took hours to complete and then something like the Phlanx cover was chosen over yours?
Oooh, I forgot all about Disposable Hero! That's my equal favourite shmup on the Miggy along with SWIV. I really like the painting - it reminds me of 70's sci-fi poster art. Pity about the logo being a little incongruous. Still very groovy though.
