Coolest looking cover art/logo for a shmups?

Post by nsonthi77@hotmail.com »

I have to admit, a cool looking logo or art of some shmups really gets me hyped up when I buy the game for the first time...not only that but it does add a certain values as a collector, so not only did you get a great game but the art is killer too. So what're some of your favorites? Here's mine...

Even after all these yrs, Salamander has one of the coolest looking cover...its just so menacing!.

I love this one and is very stylish and could do without the computer generated stuff that most cover seems to have.

Dodonpachi- Awesome logo...simple,clean and effective.

I have some others I like but these sticks out more for me.

Aye, the Salamander one is lovely. I always liked that piss-take of it on Parodius (I think I saw someone using it as their avatar here).

Here are some of my favourites:

^ The game isn't exactly a worldbeater, but I always liked the logo. Quite similar to the style of various metal bands' logos (as a fan of Bal-Sagoth, I've no aversion to big spikey logos :P ).

I think JP Einhander is the best shmup cover ever.

Followed by Steel Empire and Harmful Park.

Also all Darius box arts consistently kick ass.

There's too many to list so just check out this link:

Diddo on Salamander; that's my pick for the best shmup cover art as well.

I also LOVE the cover art from the import Game Cube port of Ikaruga.

Hyper Duel is cool as well; love that badass mech holding the huge cannon! :D

Ikaruga and RSG. Very common choice I admit.

Incredibly misleading box art, but the best of the NES box arts, IMHO. They stole that guy from the Famicom cover art of Star Soldier, if he that's what you're thinking.

While the Mega Drive box art of Steel Empire (posted by zinger) rocks, the best box art version of Steel Empire is the GBA's. Really majestic stuff.

That Last Resort box art's pretty funny...only time I've ever seen two shafts and one ball.

Another vote for the original JPN R-Type artwork, I have that in a frame in my kitchen along with R-Type 2.

Also Gynoug, Super R-Type and Gradius 2 all kick ass in the artwork dept IMO.
