Sand down the 360 pad at least, that makes it slightly acceptable

I don't have a problem with the pad, I'm just grasping at straws.Bananamatic wrote:Sand down the 360 pad at least, that makes it slightly acceptable

I find that I do much better with a stick on shmups and fighting games. It's different for everybody. Who knows, it might actually help you.
It could also hurt you, as some people do better with pads.

I play keyboard and having never used an arcade stick i cant imagine it being any better (i'm sure it is though). I personally haven't liked the 360 pad for shmups but its more a personal taste really.DrTrouserPlank wrote:I don't suppose having a stick makes you vastly more accurate and magically more consistent does it? I played with a stick for 4 years and recently switched to pad which i now prefer but they both have good and bad points , the people who outright claim one to be better than the other are wrong.
Re: Xbox 360: Mushihimesama Futari 1.5 (November 2009)
I like pads, but the 360 pad is terrible. Make sute to get a good stick, it might make a lot of difference.DrTrouserPlank wrote:I don't suppose having a stick makes you vastly more accurate and magically more consistent does it? There will be an adjustment period though.

Well its going to be your standard Madcatz job and I'll swap out the stick and buttons for a Seimitsu LS-32 in the new year. I don't know how the Sanwas feel, and I think the LS-32 I've got in my agetec stick feels adequate enough.brentsg wrote:I like pads, but the 360 pad is terrible. Coming this weekend (aka when I have time): The DrTrouserPlank Postulate
Seriously, this is not your genre of video games. It sounds like all you are doing is frustrating yourself. Either quit or lrn2play.
Edit: Seriously going to sit down with BL Original this weekend go for a 1cc and I don't even enjoy playing this game!

I don't like Cream Cheese (I know, its quite unfortunate)
Therefore, I don't eat Cream Cheese. I'm not going to go talk to a bunch of cheesecake ifficianato about how cream cheese is a poorly made variety of cheese, as I realize that it is most likely very delicious, but just not for me.
I don't see why someone would continue to consume something that they do not enjoy, unless they are getting paid for it.

I dunno, I like to try out music that people say is really good, even if it doesn't strike me on first listen. Sometimes it really grows on me. Kate Bush is my favorite musician and I thought she was super annoying and squealy the first time. I'm playing Battle Garegga and really enjoying it even though I didn't think it was anything special the first time I played.

I agree, but at a certain point you have to realize that you aren't having fun.Special World wrote:I dunno, I like to try out music that people say is really good, even if it doesn't strike me on first listen. I love listening to/discovering new music. At one point I didn't like Rage Against the Machine. Now I love their funkiness. However, my number one goal when trying to experience something new is to enjoy it, so I'm more likely to come out of the experience with something new.
However, if I were to try to expand my horizons by listening to some Guns and Roses, and my ears told me that I still did not enjoy what I was listening to, I would stop.
I've tried to force myself into the RTS genre several times, but when it comes down to it, I am just not having fun. Sure, at some point in the future I may realize that I can have fun with the right RTS, but at the moment, its not fun. Therefore, I don't play them.

I like the genre, as in I like the gameplay. What I don't like is the completely ridiculous and highly improbable endeavour of trying to beat a stupidly difficult game in 1 credit when that is obviously almost impossible, because common sense dictates that you are going to hit a few of the three-hundred billion bullets that it fires at you, because you can't be that accurate all the time, every time.dunpeal2064 wrote:I don't like Cream Cheese (I know, its quite unfortunate)

I think that's how my "Are Cave games too hard?" thread ended up in off-topic. I'm all for having a separate topic in shmups chat, but I doubt it will stay there very long.

Re: Xbox 360: Mushihimesama Futari 1.5 (November 2009)
1. There are way more than 300 bullets
2. There are other shmups, Cave ones are considered fairly difficult in a fairly difficult genre. This is why I have asked you about 5 times to give an example of a shmup that you do like, including difficulty. Then perhaps more shooters that you would enjoy could be suggested.
Its very possible that you just will not enjoy a Cave game past the initial "woah this game is pretty and awesome"
There is also a chance that you will get better at the genre as a whole by playing something that you enjoy enough to get far in.
Either way, you are having fun, so you win.

What shmups do you like DTP?
I think you should play Gaia Seed or TFIII, not Cave bullet hell games.

I'm gonna go play some WoW in a minute.
I have spent christ-knows how long on this game and I am nowhere near to completing it. Even though I have got to captain cocksplash on stage 5 a couple of times on a run that's still nowhere near to beating it because,
1) Those runs are very rare
2) Beating it would require 5 lives on it's own.
I've spent hours.... fucking hours and hours and hours practicing stages, bosses, stages, bosses, runs, you name it I've played it about a million times, and I still haven't got any hope of clearing it.
Unless getting one clear out of about a hundred-thousand runs is how people get an "all" on the leaderboards, then I don't see how anyone could have done it yet I am still nowhere near.
I thought my monitor had gone wrong at one point because the whole screen had turned purple.

I am a fairly bad player. I can usually get to the 1-3 midboss, sometimes the 1-3 main boss on one credit. I still have a lot of fun, and knowing I don't have the time to really dedicate to hard core practice, I accept that a 1cc is unlikely anytime soon. I'm okay with that. I still have a blast playing.
You really should stop making us rubbish players look even worse. Either accept your limited ability and enjoy yourself, or move on.

Go play some Gunbird 2, Strikers 1945 II or Dimahoo, then come back here and talk about what's unfair. You might suddenly find that Futari isn't so bad. (I like all 3 of those games btw, just making examples)

Does anyone know what the highest counter amount possible in BL original mode is? I've seen videos where the guy reaches like 250,000 or so, but is there an actual upper limit?

Oh, how interesting. You were playing Original mode right? 1.5 i assume. Which patterns are turning your screen purple? I haven't actually noticed any. Most bullets in the Stage are aimed at you while the rest are fired in a specific pattern. You'll be surprised with how much you can learn by practicing the stages right. That is, don't just go against them blindly. Look at a replay, look what the player does, try replicating that somewhat.DrTrouserPlank wrote:How is chucking a screen full of bullets at you and giving you half a micron though which to maneuver your ship in any way reconcilable with the terms "forgiving", "easiest" or "user friendly"?

I think its 999990 or something like that. Its probably pretty impossible to get there though. What the fuck?
Does he just no miss the whole game and end larsa with a massive counter score? I mean even on the high level replays I've seen with people getting 3 billion plus they have to bomb the counter down on larsa because the pattersns are impossible with the bullet speed.

Without having seen the superplay I'd say yes. If you're going for a Black Label world record (lol) you have to end to with 5 lives and 6 bombs given the huge bonus you get for doing so.Illyrian wrote: Does he just no miss the whole game and end larsa with a massive counter score?
Also I'm completely fine with DTP ruining this thread. If you're serious about this game then start posting in the high score thread.

Yeah, he no-misses the entire game and he drops a single bomb on Larsa. Its a really damn awesome replay.Illyrian wrote:What the fuck?
