Zelda doesn't need voice acting or any of the hardcore RPG elements of Skyrim to be good, that's not what I'm saying. Nintendo just needs to acknowledge stuff like that exists and create a Hyrule that can be just as compelling in ways that do compliment what makes Zelda great. (maybe the fact that Skyrim got 40/40 in Famitsu will make them take notice?)comparing it to Skyrim of all things is just silly. I shouldn't need to explain why.
I want to ride around on a horse across fields and mountains, scavenge dungeons for treasure, and go to a multitude of towns with their own variety of interesting townsfolk. Skyrim happens to approximate that pretty well. Why is it silly to compare them again? Is it because Zelda is more about the puzzles and boss fights? Get the googly eyes on the wall to follow my sword around until they get dizzy and die! That's what supposedly sets this game apart. This iteration is largely unchanged from the N64 Zeldas and the tweaks to the combat aren't nearly enough to reinvigorate it, and that's why the gameplay is outdated. Is there really anything new about this Zelda besides Motion Plus? If anything this game has regressed from the N64 Zeldas. The areas you go to just feel compartmentalized by the sky interface, the illusion of a giant world isn't there for me. Wind Waker was similar but it's far worse here. As far as creating interesting worlds to explore, Skyward Sword could learn a lot from last gen titles like Okami and Shadow of the Colossus, nevermind Skyrim. Here's the forest stage, here's the volcano stage, desert stage, etc. etc., all accessible from beams of light poking out of the mostly empty clouds.
In addition, I think the game can be light-hearted without being cutesy, and those woodland creatures in the forest were pushing it. I'm getting sick of having a magical babbling accomplice who has the personality of a HAL 9000 as well.
