Personally Chaos field is the best soundtrack i've heard for a very long time.. Infact its the music which made me stick with the game initially.

Its an excellent soundtrack..

I think the Parodius games need a mention here. Also loving Gradius V, Border Down, Darius Gaiden, Ikaruga, DoDonpachi, Psyvariar 2, Shikigami No Shiro, Chaos field, Thunder Force IV. I could go on all day actually.

That poll is really weird. For example, DP and DOJ, GW1 and 2 has basically nothing in common (edit: Toaplan vs Namiki, and crap techno vs orchestral). And most of the series aren't even well-known for its music (I don't want to vote for any of those OSTs). Anyway;

GG Aleste II
Metal Black
Border Down
Knight Arms
Battle Garegga
Darius Gaiden
Thunder Force IV
Gleylancer

Brainless, if you've ever tried to create a poll without failing you'd realize there's a limit on how many options you can have.
That doesn't negate the lameness of this thread. Now go get a 1CC in a shmup and post your score, we're all waiting to see.

Since DoDonPachi has the best soundtack ever, none of this matters. I got my vote in. :D

I don't think anyone has mentioned Harmful Park. Parts of Giga Wing are pretty nice too.

Sorry. It's hard not to insult people who make threads like "zOMG credit feed GET!! score+++++millions let's having bragging rights kekekeke 1cc is lame hi" and "I believe PCB does a good job in comparison to MAME."
The mods need to put the phrase "Complete Dork" under Elixir's name, as they did on the ikaruga.co.uk forums after he kept pissing people off there with his moronic comments (see http://www.ikaruga.co.uk/forum/viewtopi ... c&start=20 )

Although it's technically not a SHUMP in the true sense, Star Fox had a great soundtrack. I love the music that plays at the end of the game when it shows you the specs on all the bosses.

Other games with good sounds tracks....

Einhander
Ikaruga
Blazing Lazers
Soldier Blade
R-Type Delta
Super R-Type

Einhander is usually in an OST comparison thread, and 90% of the time it wins.

There's love for Einhander, but if it was included, the opinion would be one-sided.

I'd say the same reason applies.

Zuntata's work is my favorite. Raystorm, Darius Gaiden, Metal Black etc. Out of the ones there, I'd say Ikaruga.

Most of their replies are either 1)to poke fun at this thread and inform you of what a complete dork you are (just like what happened on the ikaruga.co.uk forums), or 2) to mention soundtracks NOT on the poll. So yes, by all means this thread is a rousing success.

Or, not.

"to mention soundtracks that aren't on the poll"
So basically, to vote for something different.

"just like the what happened" - type slower ;_;

This is exactly what people are doing - who cares if your favorite soundtrack is from Galaga 1972? POST IT. Their favorites are their opinions, and you don't need to be an angsty fuck to realize that.

I don't see any problems with mentioning your favorite soundtrack and voicing your opinion to others.. which is exactly what you're doing, minus it having effect.

Edit: I'm done. I'm going to be the bigger man and say this poll is fucked. Reply and try flaming me to your little hearts content, this poll is lame due to a forum technicality.

Having an "Other" option would just ultimately result in it winning as there's too many games that should of been, and need to be listed. This still isn't forcing anybody to vote or reply, but there is absolutely no harm in doing so.

i think the soundtracks of recca for the famicom and the pc engine port of xevious's fardraught mode deserve honorable mentions.

I'm partial to RSG, Gradius V, Silpheed (SegaCD), Parodius, and Sol-Feace (redbook rocks  ).
Aside from those, I feel hard pressed to think of notable others.

I picked Ikaruga from the list given. My faves at the minute would have to be RS and Border Down. Border Down really surprised me - I didn't really expect much from this game but it really blew me away!

What all of the soundtracks in this poll lack is po-faced pomp and grandeur. In fact, every shmup ever created could do with more of this.

My vote here, then, will have to go to Ikaruga.

I don't like the idea of social class having anything to do with shooters, though. This is probably the one genre that still proudly shuns mundane Earthly social commentary and politics. Perhaps your view of opera as music of high social standing is more a product of the ignorance of many labouring people, rather any kind of snobbery on your part!
