That poll is really weird. For example, DP and DOJ, GW1 and 2 has basically nothing in common (edit: Toaplan vs Namiki, and crap techno vs orchestral). And most of the series aren't even well-known for its music (I don't want to vote for any of those OSTs). Anyway;
GG Aleste II
Metal Black
Border Down
Knight Arms
Battle Garegga
Darius Gaiden
Thunder Force IV
Gleylancer

I'd go with Einhander.
Feedback will set you free.

You're missing all the great 16 and 32-bit shmups which had nice music (Radiant Silvergun, Hyper Duel, Metal Black, etc), as well as many arcade and DC shmups (Borderdown, Zero Gunner 2, etc), and recent games like Gradius V, Mushihime-sama, etc.
Since DoDonPachi has the best soundtack ever, none of this matters. I got my vote in.

The mods need to put the phrase "Complete Dork" under Elixir's name, as they did on the ikaruga.co.uk forums after he kept pissing people off there with his moronic comments (see http://www.ikaruga.co.uk/forum/viewtopi ... c&start=20 )Elixir wrote:Sorry. Although it's technically not a SHUMP in the true sense, Star Fox had a great soundtrack. I love the music that plays at the end of the game when it shows you the specs on all the bosses.
Other games with good sounds tracks....
Einhander
Ikaruga
Blazing Lazers
Soldier Blade
R-Type Delta
Super R-Type
DoDonPachi
Gradius V

Einhander is usually in an OST comparison thread, and 90% of the time it wins.Groove wrote:hey where's the love for Einhander??!
There's love for Einhander, but if it was included, the opinion would be one-sided.
I'd say the same reason applies.Stormowl wrote:the fact that radiant silvergun has not even been mentioned is disturbing.

And that's why I don't bother with half-dead moronic forums. Please, if you're to embarass yourself by posting meaningless replies, do it somewhere where our time won't be wasted.twe wrote:The mods need to put the phrase "Complete Dork" under Elixir's name, as they did on the ikaruga.co.uk forums after he kept pissing people off there with his moronic comments (see http://www.ikaruga.co.uk/forum/viewtopi ... c&start=20 )Elixir wrote:Sorry. Most of their replies are either 1)to poke fun at this thread and inform you of what a complete dork you are (just like what happened on the ikaruga.co.uk forums), or 2) to mention soundtracks NOT on the poll. So yes, by all means this thread is a rousing success.Elixir wrote:Huh? This has 51 replies, and it looks as if people are still replying and voting.

Or, not.
"to mention soundtracks that aren't on the poll"
So basically, to vote for something different.
"just like the what happened" - type slower ;_;
This is exactly what people are doing - who cares if your favorite soundtrack is from Galaga 1972? POST IT. Their favorites are their opinions, and you don't need to be an angsty fuck to realize that.
I don't see any problems with mentioning your favorite soundtrack and voicing your opinion to others.. which is exactly what you're doing, minus it having effect.
Edit: I'm done. I'm going to be the bigger man and say this poll is fucked. Reply and try flaming me to your little hearts content, this poll is lame due to a forum technicality.
Having an "Other" option would just ultimately result in it winning as there's too many games that should of been, and need to be listed. This still isn't forcing anybody to vote or reply, but there is absolutely no harm in doing so.

I'm partial to RSG, Gradius V, Silpheed (SegaCD), Parodius, and Sol-Feace (redbook rocks
).
Aside from those, I feel hard pressed to think of notable others.

What all of the soundtracks in this poll lack is po-faced pomp and grandeur. In fact, every shmup ever created could do with more of this.
My vote here, then, will have to go to Ikaruga.
I don't like the idea of social class having anything to do with shooters, though. This is probably the one genre that still proudly shuns mundane Earthly social commentary and politics. Perhaps your view of opera as music of high social standing is more a product of the ignorance of many labouring people, rather any kind of snobbery on your part!
