Re: Too close for comfort? the revival?
Windows XP, 32-bit MAME, Intel Core 2 Duo 2.8 Ghz, 2 GB RAM, AMD Mobility Radeon HD 2600.
I get drops when initially loading, then 100% most areas, especially with Mushi Futari which I just made to Stage 5 today on Original the first time I ever played it. Muchi Muchi Pork was lacking speed in some places but then so was Ibara. Yagawa likes his spraying explosion stuff and complexity.
I imagine if I had a slightly better PC (there were more 32-bit PCs made that were better than mine before the market was flooded with 64-bit trash), or I compiled with stripping down some useless crap out of MAME like other drivers, I wouldn't even have those issues. Hopefully the sound doesn't drag the speed down if it gets implemented.
So uh, any ideas as to A) Guwange Blue gets public release, B) Demul comes out so we can Dynarec it up and see how that works and C) what the go is with Pink Sweets being emulated and how well does it work?

Re: Too close for comfort? the revival?
Now... I know this has been asked before, but how are the chances that sound could be emulated (or put in in any other way) in the new sh3 games? Is it "only" a licensing issue because of the mpegs? or are there other, technical issues at work?

Similar to pork, there are slowdowns at the start / midpoints in each level while it loads in / decompresses / whatever new data, which is more demanding on the SH3.BPzeBanshee wrote: C) what the go is with Pink Sweets being emulated and how well does it work?

this is MAME SVN revision 14244 (171011)
both 32-bit and 64-bit builds in there.
The RTC is emulated in this one, so the clocks work in ib backgrounds.

Can't play galuda 2 properly, the game in zetsu mode is way faster than it should be

Re: Too close for comfort? the revival?
Just implying that slowdown emulation is non-existent rendering the game unplayable.

We've all got so carried away with these new roms working that we've been forgetting to make pointless self-righteous moralistic arguments for a while, havn't we?

I've got one here that's just propping up a table leg, should be fine though I think.Demetori wrote:Oh shit, stepped on and cracked my PCB. Got a spare?

Hopefully you can answer this for me -- is the standard to have "non-merged", "split" or "merged" sets?

Erm, I doubt it? Isn't the problem that the sound isn't emulated yet?emphatic wrote:When you're done, sound is already working?

Re: Too close for comfort? the revival?
So Haze, I just noticed this in the MAME GIT mirror:
And I presume if so, that means more performance improvements right?
Sounds like fast and good progress here, that's for sure.
Does this mean we actually will get a dynamic recompiler for the Cave SH3 games in MAME? I was under the impression from the last time you mentioned this that a dynarec probably wasn't going to happen.Haze: added some framework which could be used for emulating the blitter delays, not currently used, and not currently accurate (delays too long, clipping not taken into account). Will be safer to use / work on once there is a recompiler because right now it just causes more tight loops which I'd have to individually idle skip. (no whatsnew)

Re: Too close for comfort? the revival?
I don't know. R.Belmont was the most likely person to write one, and he says he doesn't care because nothing comes close to dipping under 100% on his i5
He's been putting it off forever anyway, so this doesn't surprise me.
Trying to add the slowdown support is a bit annoying tho. It's the classic case of trying to emulate something so that it behaves *worse* requires more CPU power than just letting it run. For example, the whole threading thing might not work at all with accurate blitter timing calculations as you have to have a knowledge of what's being drawn to know what delay you should incur, and calculating it ahead of time will only give you an approximation.
Also the games waiting for the blitter to finish in their code can kill off the benefit of multi-threading, as essentially the sh4 just ends up sitting in a loop waiting for the blitter when it could have been doing other things, negating the benefit of having the blitter in another thread in the first place.
I'm probably not going to make any other major changes to it this side of the next major release. We'll see what happens then, I'm seeing if there are any more basic optimizations I can make to the SH3/4 core first.

Re: Too close for comfort? the revival?
Got Mushihime Sama running thanks to help in this thread, cheers!
However, something I noticed -- there are two versions, one runs basically 100% (mushisam), and the other around 50% (mushisama).
"2004/10/12 MASTER VER." is the faster of the two, is this the bugfixed version?
