Your entire argument it "I liked games more way back when" followed by five paragraphs rephrasing that in various ways, sprinkled with insults towards anyone who might actually enjoy new games. And you do this any time there's a slight mention of mainstream games, and often when there isn't. It's the difference between being a Christian, and being that asshole who somehow ties every single conversation back to Jesus ("yeah, Judy being pregnant is good news, but have you heard the good news about Jesus Christ?"). Even other Christians avoid that guy. You're the gaming version of him.
Oh gosh, I know what you're talking about. As a Christian myself, I can relate to what you're saying. I don't like it when people wear their religion on their sleeves and rub everyone else's noses in it. The same goes for social class, sexuality, career, and anything else I can think of.
As for the topic at hand, I imagine that I may be the type of forum member whose posts people don't care much for. I rarely add much insight into shmupping. I'm just here because I like shmups and classic gaming. At the last AZ shmupmeet I was playing Mushihime-sama on Undamned's PS2. Shearie said something like, "Watching your playing makes me feel confident in my skills." And I was like, "You kow what? I can totally suck at games but I could care less." I'm sure I must be an enigma to guys like Randorama.
Yeah, people can be intolerant of other types of gamers on here and get uppity. Whether it's emulators, FPSes, RPGs, or whatever. Back on the network54 board, I felt like I must keep my interest in Bemani games hidden in the closet. Hey, I have Dance Dance Revolution on my Dreamcast. And my friend just gave me Taiko no Tatsujin for the PS2 a few days ago.
This flame baiting is pretty immature, and as Rando and UD have pointed out, go to the strategy section for in-depth discussions. That's pretty much obvious.
Since we're all discussing the old days of this site, let's all reflect upon Rommel, the ultimate troll, and shudder. Yeesh.
