Of course, you're not going to have people invade in 5-3 for respectable battles and it's pretty obvious if someone wants to 1v1 due to bowing. Nobody will use 1-1 of NG+ for PVP either.
4-1 is mostly the game's pvp arena though. Japanese (and most people on Asian servers) bow before battle, and don't firestorm or attack while you're loading. Of course there's still players who do that, it just happens far less on the Asian servers.
Interesting, I never knew the asian servers were like that. There are indeed no honorable fights in the US servers and I learned to play dirty because of them. I had no problem invading someone's world and using the local enemies to ambush the player, for example. It was damn effective.
Oh, and scraping spear is the ultimate troll weapon. Thankfully no one ever used it on me.

True, a guide is very useful in that game, there's no way anyone can be expected to understand all those numbers from day one.
It's a bit of a waste thinking you can just increase your strength to do more damage with a sword, when the sword you're using is drawing on completely different stats.
Or for example gaining SL in Str & End so you can equip a full suit of brushwood, a great axe and a large shield. only to find that tanking via armour is probably the most retarded thing to do in this game because the resists you get from it is minimal compared to the usefulness of actually being fast an manueverable.
The universe is neither hostile nor friendly, simply indifferent.
Even without my umbillical cable attached I still have over 12,000 plates of fortified armour AND I have my AT Field! There's NO WAY I can lose!!
The problem with Scraping Spear is that it's the Cleglaw's Gloves of Demon's Souls. The spear itself is terrible but people can just toggle between it and their real weapons.
Yes, stripping your enemy of their primary weapon and switching to your own primary weapon is totally fair.
Pre-ordered Dark Souls from Amazon. Comes with a guidebook, OST and a making of DVD. I should be able to at least get to NG+ of Demons Souls before release (just the last few levels of shrine of storms to do)

So, you guys excited? What are your expectations? Since, it's the only real new game I'll be getting this Fall(unless I get Last Guardian), I'm hoping it's better than the first. Nothing against the first, but I don't want it to be a step down. I mean, it's the only new game I'm getting!
Very excited. Have it reserved through gamestop. Normally just do Amazon, but this is a first day kinda thing.

Can't express my excitement enough. I finally acquired my platinum, but I still have the urge to play. I'm resisting since I'll never get through any other games if I'm forever consumed by this, but.. I still want to play.
So I have to wonder, when will Demon's Souls' servers close? I'm beginning to think they won't.. or at least, the JP servers won't. I was still able to find a fair number of blue signs, obviously 4-1 and 1-3, but things like signs in front of Flamelurker were simply absent.
I'm very excited for this as well; I'm about to do a few more runs of Demon's Souls in anticipation.
I haven't seen much gameplay footage, or even read about many of the new features, so I'll be going into this somewhat blind. Can't wait to see what they have in store.
You post seems to imply that you don't know how the game's online works. Basically you're online while playing it singleplayer, and certain online elements integrates into your single player experience.
There's no direct interaction with other players unless you get invaded or invade/summon other players. (something that usually won't happen until New Game+ anyway)
You can play the game offline just fine, though. It's still just as great.
And yeah, dig it up now! No one should miss out on Demon's Souls! Dark Souls is a follow-up, not a replacement to the previous title.
I think Demon's Souls is better played online, just because you're helping others to help yourself. Their part is in helping you progress, your part is in helping them reclaim their bodies.
Unless you're duping or constantly in soul form, I'd recommend summoning blues whenever possible. It isn't possible until you've taken down Phalanx in 1-1 and obtained the blue sign from the Maiden, though.
I prefer to play the game in soul form. You have less HP and can't summon help, but you won't have to worry about invasions and, more importantly, your death won't increase the difficulty. The extra HP is NOT worth the risk of dying and making the level harder. Only stay alive if you really know what you're doing.
Also, by playing alone you learn how to manage every part of the game by yourself. Many players out there are helpless by themselves and absolutely need to summon other players to beat bosses for them. Especially Maneater and False King.
I'm getting it on the 360 too. I think I read that the servers will be global this time, but I'm not completely sure.
FYI, it was kind of a pain to coordinate co-op sessions with specific people in Demon's Souls. You couldn't invite other players to your game or anything like that - they had to drop a "soul sign" at the start of a stage, and then you could summon them into your world for help after you found their message. And there was no voice communication either. I'm not sure what they've changed for Dark Souls, but I'd bet it'll be somewhat similar.
I think that was the whole point. They didn't want 'just another co-op game'. They wanted a really alien experience, where on-line didn't eliminate the idea of isolation.
I'm sure I've thought this a million times so might as well state it firmly here: If you're looking for online play with your friends, this is not the right game for you. In a lot of ways, online gameplay is just a way of making 1 player mode more random.

Yeah, I agree with both of you. I just mentioned that so people who are unfamiliar with Demon's Souls will be aware of some of its quirks. Its online experience is one of a kind, and I wouldn't have it any other way.
I went to Gamefest today and managed to play Dark souls briefly and I must say I'm impressed the game seems visually stunning but at the same time pretty hard I kept dieing trying to kill this bull beast...I just wish I had more time on it.
