Chrono Trigger ported more times than Myst?

Post by shmuppyLove »

LOL just kidding - nothing could ever be ported/rereleased/remastered more times than Myst at this point. But this will make the 4th or 5th version of Chrono Trigger now?

http://androidandme.com/2011/09/news/sq ... o-trigger/

How about a new game? If I really wanted to play Chrono Trigger again, I would just use snesoid ... and I'm not sure I could bring myself to play it again. I loved it to death in it's time and it will always hold a special place in my tiny shrivelled heart, but if I have to sit through one more goddamned trial, only to have that BITCH chancellor just toss me in jail anyway ...

I'm happy that older games are still being published. Nobody gets sour when it happens with books/music/film (in fact, they generally get sore when they aren't reprinted), don't know why some people roll their eyes when it happens with games.

I sure as shit wouldn't play CT on an iDevice though.

I don't quite get what purpose this thread is to serve, but Ys I&II may very well be remade and ported all over pretty much every generation more times than Myst.

What's the problem here? People born in the 90's should be given Chrono Trigger at birth.

I've still to play for the alternate endings. I think I got the "powergamer" ending. I got chrono cross from a second hand store a few weeks ago. Still in its wrapping. Heard it's good though.

Chrono Cross is not good. Pretty backgrounds and fabulous soundtrack, but it sucks nonetheless.

rather see chrono break already. not like it's been 15+ years we've been waiting or anything.

Still waiting on Valkyrie Profile 3 too.

I have to say though, this generation for Square has been pretty top notch. 3rd Birthday, FFXIII. They're doing things right this generation.

I would like to see a remake of CT, with graphics re-done by Level 5. Now that would make me happy.

But it's a great game. Keep it goin', I say.

Lol the purpose was:

1. Share news that CT is being ported to Android
2. Make fun of Myst
3. ???
4. Profit!!!

I just hate how Chrono Trigger is used as the de-facto playability index of SNES emulators on weaker platforms.

"It runs Chrono Trigger perfectly! Just set frameskip to 3."

F that, it still won't run Wild Guns fullspeed with 0 frameskip.

I'm playing CT for the first time ever right now (yes, finally).

It's a great game, don't get me wrong. I'm 10 hours in and loving it. But it's not a Seiken Densestsu 2 beater in my book (yet.) It doesn't have that game's immersive qualities and the soundtrack isn't as strong.
Of course if I'd played it on the Snes back in the day I would have been seduced: the graphics are really something in places and the battles are some of the snappiest turn based affairs I've played.

But I'm a little let down by the fact there are no actual towns to come across, only overhead maps: mostly repeated over and over. It's a minor niggle perhaps, but I really feel like the 'complete' towns in most Square Snes games were always a leisurely break from fighting stuff - here such instances seem a little fleeting, making CT feel more battle heavy than most. It crammed a lot of it's non-fighting stuff early on with the fair and the courtroom, but since then it's been a strict diet of time-hopping and fighting and not much else.

Still having a lot of fun with it though.

But it features a Rick Astley song! Does your precious Seiken Densetsu 2 have "Never Gonna Give You Up"? No!

Just bustin' yer chops. I'm trying to get Specineff to play CT too. To be fair, I only played FF6 for the first time a year or two ago.

While Legend of Mana is one of my all time favorite games, Secret of Mana doesn't even hold a brightly lit candle to Chrono Trigger.

It's a pretty bad game like most JRPGs IMO. I had a good time with it, but the enjoyment came from reading / listening to it rather than playing it.

Don't be a goof off, of course it does. At this point it's lightly singing it, although I would probably need to replay SOM to see if the nostalgia lives up to the reality.

(And I didn't play it, but wasn't LOM supposed to be a bit on the lame side?)

Secret of Mana and Chrono Trigger are both extremely overrated. Hope this clears things up.

people say LOM was lame, but I think it's the highlight of the mana series and one of the best games. Even better than Seiken Densetsu 3.

Personally I found Secret of Evermore even better than Secret of Mana.

I think most people will agree (unless they started playing RPGs w/FF7) that SNES was when Squaresoft was in it's prime. Out of all the SNES titles I think Chrono Trigger is the best closely followed by FFVI.

Highest point of Squaresoft was Vagrant Story / FFT (even though it's mostly a dumbed down Tactics Ogre, it's still quite good).

Tactics Ogre is not very good, but then again, my favourite jRPG with grid-based combat is the first Shining Force.
I just thought that Legend of Mana was kind of like SaGa, looked up Wikipedia and yup, according to it Akitoshi Kawazu worked on LoM, which explains the bewilderment it may initially evoke.
He also worked on FF: Crystal Chronicles. I haven't played that one, but at least its reputation is no wonder to me now.

We already had a discussion about Tactics Ogre (before the remake was out) in the RPG thread on here. It's a masturbation sim.
Although I've yet to give Vagrant Story a proper chance, I liked Cyber Org better mostly because the dudes moved faster, the framerate was better an so were character models and animations. Shallow reasons perhaps, but I'm talking early impressions here.
