The MAD Magazine Board Game is the only game I know where the actual objective is to lose. "First player to lose all their money wins" er..loses?

Um, Ikaruga? Aside from the difficulty, the ending doesn't make you a winner.

Neither does Thunder Force IV, apparently. :(

In one part of Cave Story, you have to drown to get to the next part.

Shadow Hearts: there's about half a dozen battles where you're scripted to lose. not to mention the mid-game cutscene... i thought that game was over about 2 or 3 times before it actually was. ^^;

FFX: TIDUS DIES!

FF8: Squall gets owned at the end of disc 1. ...but FF8 was a piece-of-shit game anyway. :/

FF9: Zidane & co. get pwnt by Kuja at the end of disc 1. do i see a pattern forming here...?

Ikaruga: SHINJI DIES!!1

Dragon Spirit (NES): lose the first level to play the game on an easier mode, with the Yellow Dragon.

Kingdom Hearts: Squall kicks your ass the first time you fight him.

Golden Sun: i seem to remember a scripted-to-lose battle near the beginning somewhere with those 2 goons who combine to form the final boss...

Shadow of Destiny: ....you die. a lot.

the god-awful Fullmetal Alchemist PS2 game: you're scripted to lose the final "battle" with Roy, Risa, and Armstrong. :/ that game was worse than Drakengard... which is saying a lot.

...a friend of mine actually BEAT Galaga...

Terminator 2: Judgment Day (Arcade)- The ending follows the movie perfectly.

Chakan the Forever Man

Phantasy Star II: Someone in your party has to cop it to help you pass through that spot in the game.

Dig Dug: Once you've gotten far enough in this one, you'll reach a kill-screen- literally. Dig Dug will die immediately when the level begins because there is a monster right on him.
Kinect? KIN NOT.

FF8 was a piece-of-shit game and FF9 and FFX weren't? Since when?

Silly monkey, FFX and FF9 are far superior to the commonly degraded FF8. Somewhere on the fourth disc I couldn't tolerate Final Fantasy VIII, and put it down for good.

Since a long time ago. Or always. Not that I think FFVIII is the piece of crap some make it out to be, as I quite like it, but IX and X are just better.
