Street Fighter 3 Third Strike Is a RELIGION!!!!!
Every night I bow down to my GOD which happens to be a Street Fighter 3 third Strike Cabinet. Perfection can be measured in the ammount of detail and balance put into this title. This game may be the perfect 2d arcade fighting game. I do not even think with Street Fighter 4 can surpass the magnificence that is Street Fighter 3 THIRD Strike. This is to fighters as Ikaruga/Radiant Silvergun is to shooters. Yes its that good my friends and I have spent more time perfecting technique in this game then any other. Screw a port buy the CAB!!!!!!! The Soundtrack is Hardcore as well.
I will bury myself with my cabinet when I die.

SHAQ FU!
Wait a minute. A guy who's user name is "Third Strike" really, really likes Street Fighter 3 Third Strike? Why, that's just plain silly.
The grammar nazi inside me just has to tell you: five exclamation points is excessive. At least you kept it an odd number, equal numbers are so much worse. But still, one should suffice. Three -- maaaybe -- in the most dire of situations. But five is just being too much.

Words of wisdom. Also, WORDS IN ALL CAPITALS IN TOPIC TITLES = not cool.alpha5099 wrote:Wait a minute. A guy who's user name is "Third Strike" really, really likes Street Fighter 3 Third Strike? Why, that's just plain silly.

No matter how good a game is, somebody will always hate it. No matter how bad a game is, somebody will always love it.

*Sarcasm

Yes, 3rd Strike is the best fighting game ever created. The system is awsome. You can be good with anyone with enough practice and if you lose, it's your fault not the system or whatever else you like to blame it on. If you can play an "old type" board (which has unblockables) the competition gets crazy. All other fighters are so empty compared to 3s.
Re: Street Fighter 3 Third Strike Is a RELIGION!!!!!
I dig Third Strike quite a bit... but I actually prefer the stages and music of Second Impact (on the Dreamcast DI set).
Above that, I just can't find myself caring about the characters any... the Balance of Third Strike is great - but without a good cast of characters, I'm ambivalent about it.
For the best balance and character ratio, I'd say Street Fighter Zero 2 Dash (on the SF Gold Collection - Sega Saturn) is the best SF that I own (and I've got most of them now) and is nearly as balanced as Third Strike. For the ultimate in pure Street Fighter character lineup, SFZ3 is tops - but it's not balanced in any way (then again, when I play SFZ3 it's just to have all those awesome matchups, not to worry about balance).

Loadtime out the ace...get the PSX version and use the option on ps2 to speed the loadsI'd say Street Fighter Zero 2 Dash (on the SF Gold Collection - Sega Saturn)
Anyways, Zero 3 (PCB version) is best in the enjoyability department...although not anywhere near balanced, but that just adds to the challenge...

3rd Strike is slower but requires more precision...also very fun
Best for competitive play would be Super SF2 Turbo, or Hyper Fighting...you can find them in the cheap MAME cabs at arcades and play for a quarter
We must have different versions because SFZ2-Dash has about the fastest loads for any fighter (RAM cart or not) on the Saturn. It's got load times, but they are way (way) below my threshold - they are nothing to be bothered about in any way. Capcom did an amazing job on optimizing this (comprable to the 4MB ports and puts the SNK load-time efforts to shame). I'm sure the PSX port is fine - but the Saturn port is amazing.Neon wrote:Loadtime out the ace...get the PSX version and use the option on ps2 to speed the loadsI'd say Street Fighter Zero 2 Dash (on the SF Gold Collection - Sega Saturn)
I much prefer the Saturn SFZ3 extras, but to each their own.Neon wrote:Anyways, Zero 3 (PCB version)

The PSX version is about the same, a few missing background frames and only standard resolution available but better sound effects...and far less in the way of loadtimes played on ps2 with speedup enabled, which if I remember correctly (I have the SF Zero 2 Dash version on SF collection, import version, perhaps it was optimised for USA?) are about 12 seconds on Saturn, too long by my standards.I'm sure the PSX port is fine - but the Saturn port is amazing
Vampire Saviour and Xmen vs. Streetfighter are both 4 meg and have *almost* no loadtimes...you are at best exaggerating slightly my good man.
The extra characters/stages were swell additions...but there's not much comparison when you look at the arcade modes side by side. Far too severe sound and loading issues on the Saturn...I much prefer the Saturn SFZ3 extras, but to each their own.
Anyways, I'm derailing the thread!
I'm looking forward to CPSIII being emulated...mostly to see if Warzard is any good, it'll be great to have 3rd strike with savestates though. Owning a genuine CPSIII comes with too much hassle regarding the battery I think...
I've got the import version as well. Again, I find the load times very fast - I'll time them tonight.Neon wrote:The PSX version is about the same, a few missing background frames and only standard resolution available but better sound effects...and far less in the way of loadtimes played on ps2 with speedup enabled, which if I remember correctly (I have the SF Zero 2 Dash version on SF collection, import version, perhaps it was optimised for USA?) are about 12 seconds on Saturn, too long by my standards.
Those are defintely faster - but SFZ2-Dash is fast enough. SFZ3 for the Saturn is also fast (not quite VS or XvSF fast, but plenty fast enough that you hardly notice when playing). As for the sound...Neon wrote:Vampire Saviour and Xmen vs. Streetfighter are both 4 meg and have *almost* no loadtimes...you are at best exaggerating slightly my good man.
I think we've already established that you are one of the very few to complain about the sound on the Saturn port. On my setup, the audio is crisp and sounds great. It's an amazing port - sound quality included. Add in the extras, and I've found that you can't do any better than the Saturn port - full standup SFZ3 cab not withstanding. But we've already had this discussionFar too severe sound and loading issues on the Saturn...

SF3 3S Dreamcast port is $30 on ebay. And if you are the hacker type, its not to difficult to play inside a real arcade cab.Neon wrote: I'm looking forward to CPSIII being emulated...mostly to see if Warzard is any good, it'll be great to have 3rd strike with savestates though. I haven't noticed that at all... control seems spot on.Valgar wrote:Not only that but it [DC port of 3rd Strike] is known to have input lag

I haven't confirmed this either, but its suppoed to be isolated to people who have hacked the original dreamcast pad's analog triggers (for buttons 5+6). If you use a agetec stick, or hack a 6 button madcatz pad there is no lag.Valgar wrote:Not only that but it is known to have input lag (maybe just parrys? I havn't tested myself).
I never herd of this secret before...maybe its interlaced v.s. non-interlaced modes? I wonder if it makes any difference if you play at 31khz (via vga box). I'll have to give this a try...thanks!llabnip wrote:Once you enter the secret startup code to put the game in a better looking resolution (L + Start to switch to a low resolution mode at the Capcom logo... Indeed. It sounds perfect on my sound setup. Sometimes I think Neon has his Saturn hooked up to a TV with busted speakers.

SF3TS is the radiant silvergun of fighters, overlooked like hell, then praised blindly by people that know no better afew years later, and kinda overrated because of its graphics.
SFA3 is where its at.
I concur.
RABBLE RABBLE RABBLE!!!!!!
Aye, no good reason to play the Dreamcast version. even if there isn't input lag the graphics are still worse. Xbox is preferable for this game, PS2 a close second.
I've put a few hundred hours into the game, I know more about it than collectors who rarely play it, kthx
I'm making myself sound like a condescending asshole, but hey.
Well, *some* of the sounds are perfect. The voices sound spot-on to me. The announcer, hits, character select music, and between fights music (unless you lose and have to continue, in which case it's near perfect...I assume due to memory limitations) are all noticeably better on CPSII. Not a huge deal to most I'm sure, but not a matter of opinion. Fact. Those sounds have been downsampled. Quality is lowered. The loads may not be huge either, but they exist, and are especially noticeable when you can't skip past the between-fights screen (even in 'shortcut mode' it's still loading there, you can't skip it). Again, fact.Quote:

I don't think any of the versions of TS look as good as the arcade, period.
Funny enough, Double Impact on the DC looks exactly the way it is supposed to and apparently has less problems with those unblockables and so forth.
As far as SFZ3 being better and what not, in the words of The Dude, 'that's just like your opinion man...'

Oh no doubt the CPSIII Arcade version looks the best, the resolution is strange like CPS2. I can tell with them side by side here.
MOTW...I don't like the idea of Just Defending, but the animation and character roster are tops. On the other hand I think Parrying is a brilliant idea.
