Yeah, this is all I'm playing. I finally hit 2m on stage 3 once. Made a few breakthroughs on 4 (1,600+ before big ship, and the tip on the ship part - destroy central part quick - helped, hadn't ever tried that sadly).

Ok, how goes on stage 5 btw? This should be the best source for exp, and it's relatively easy...2k are doable, for 1,7M, even if very hard. Ah, just to be nitpicky: Stage 6 has a few chains, but they're somewhat irrilevant.

Stage 5 is decent. The max I've got is maybe a 1,700 chain (exp in my score attack record says just over 1m). It's pretty easy to keep the chain going due to the bullet cancelling enemies, but I need to maximize the reflections as well. I keep dying a few times at the pre-ship section of 4, so I'm not making it to 5 often.

Uhm, you should always wait to the very last moment before cancelling bullets, especially in the sections in which this grants an easier life for your chain (lull before the plethora of divers, when you have balls from the left shooting streams at you). Also, you should reflect all bullets from the floating balls with the pods (hell, all enemies are balls in this stage. Designers were lazy, uh?). In general, this is the only stage in which you have to play a bit on the defensive, or in general wait before reflecting.

Randorama wrote:as a general rule, stage 2 is 2 chains. I don't know if oing one chain is even possible at all, as the critical point (the spinning turret and the drones before that) seems not to be chainable, given the too long hiatus of bullets before that.
I finally did it. Not a very thrilling result (666,000 exp), but I did do it. Final chain was 1470 something. Lost some during the spinning turret part since I didn't have too long until the +1 cube expired. I thought it'd be closer to a million, considering the usual 550/1000 is worth 400,000+ by the end of the stage. Damn, but I suppose I can forget about that one.

Amazing! Can you pull it off without too many crazy manouvers, or it's a bit of a leap of faith? I don't think it's too big though, as you can obtain a similar result without the early part (the spinning tower is worth roughly 300 cubes). Beside that, you should squeeze some more points from the giant green ships in the last part...by doing quick reflections, you can squeeze some more cubes (about another 150 or so). In case you can do consistently this chain, you should be the first one around

Luck was definitely involved, as it took 3-4 quick tapping reflects, where you have to hope something hits in a relatively close proximity (or not inside of a packed cluster of bullets). Not very practical.

Rob 1,178,214,598,510 - Exp 2,988,289 - Stage 6 - M02

Hope to finish with 3.5-4m exp (blew 5 in this game, 300 thousand). 8)

Uhm, your score is still somewhat low, though. I doubt you can do another billion or so by the last stage alone, even if i should check ( 2 B being roughly the equivalent of a max out on the arcade version). As a general note, a max-out (or 2B) is doable once you enter the last stage with at least 3,6M exp and you blow up everything. Same discourse goes for the fourth stage bullet field: since the green ships will spawn as long as you destroy them, you can get a lot of points if you can destroy them as soon as they appear. For the rest, i think that's all...will beat you in the afternoon

Rob - 1,480,463,814,270 - Exp 2,873,681 - Stage 6 - M02

Better scoring, not so much exp. Just had a much better game exp-wise (3.7 mil), but no getting to 6.

Uhm, 3,2M exp after stage 5? If so, excellent, how was your progression? You're close to the virtual max-out, complete the game ;)

550,000 > 450,000 > 1,550,000 > 700,000 > 350,000 (ugh) > ...

I hope to complete it before my newest DC d-pad turns to mush.

Rob, I think you and I are the only ones that use a DC pad.

I have three new ones in reserve, and seven total.

Eh, what's more amazing is that you use the DC pad
Beside that, i wonder how you got such a low score with 4,1M exp :P

Not getting to stage 6 was probably the problem (I also played with a regular DC pad).

Rob, your scores are amazing by the way. I could never consistently hold a chain in this game. What are the top scores for the Dreamcast version of this game anyway?

I have a DC replay, the score is 999999999990, well full 9 score, but I don't remember the exp (yes 3.9mil)

NB : the scoring system is different on DC, and some boss attacks too

I considered posting this fact in the oddball feats thread in the main forum. IlMrm knows it's a great pad. Or at least I can't stop using it.

That's an arcade score max out. I'd guess the DC scores are in the 3-4 trillion range. I don't know.

Rob - 2,032,214,082,320 - Exp 3,611,962 - ALL

stage 7 at last

I hope the clear doesn't kill my interest too much because I think I can go about 900,000 more exp ("lost" 300 and 600 thousand on 4 and 5 respectively).

Well, i apologize for the delay (thought the score was already up, honestly), in case: i've done a bit better Rob, is it motivating enough?

I did feel too satisfied with the clear & score, which eliminated my drive to continue. Maybe next year. :)

Well, good job so far, but there's room for much improvement, no?

MAME Version, w/ the blue ship. Does anyone have lots more trouble with the MAME version than the DC version? I usually play DC, but someone's borrowing my DC so I downloaded the MAME version cuz I was in one of those "must play mars matrix" moods, and it seems a bit harder. I may just be imagining it b/c I haven't played the game in awhile, or it may be b/c there's no auto-piercing cannon :? . Anyways, here's my 1CC with a horrible score. I forgot how awesome this game was. :)
