I would kill to be able to buy a new Cave shooter on launch. I just can't bring myself to do it. :(

If you are willing to kill, then you can.

edit: I've been drawing up plans to rob the G-Front store in Akihabara. They have 3 brand new Mushihime PCBs.

I haven't posted in over a year and my old login doesn't work, but I'd like to take a big beer piss in the face of everyone posting negative comments on this. I'll praise Cave for continually producing kick ass shmups and I look forward to this one!

don't understand those of you that are surprised some of us are less than thrilled about this.

Can we not have standards or tastes? There are lots of shooters coming out these days, and there's tons that still need to be thoroughly played, I don't consider myself a beggar that has to take every scrap he's thrown. Yea, Cave makes another shooter, good. At least they're still up and running. But it's a sequel to a game that isn't my favorite, so pardon me if I don't sacrifice the lambs to the STG gods.
Standards amd tastes are fair enough. But they're supposed to come into force AFTER you've played the game. If you don't like it then, then cool. There are way too many cynics on this board.

My guess is they're leaning towards sequels of their newer games (also Ibara 2, from the same financial report :?:) not just because they want to establish some identifiable franchise themes and characters, but it's also probably what their artist(s) want to do. Without Joker Jun, there's probably not much incentive to make follow-ups to games like ESP Ra.De. and Guwange, where the artist might feel like he's picking up in territory that isn't his own. I could understand he might want to flesh out and continue his own worlds and characters.

Indeed. Joker Jun has even hinted that he wanted to do ESPRade 2 at one point. Does anyone know if Otogi Matsuri is actually over?

uh...

cynic mode: "This game will surely suck, it's a sequel and it will surely receive a shitty port!".

fanboy mode: "Oh damn another Cave shmup, it will surely rock even if it's pedestrian and a pure reash!"

On the other hand, i'm really curious about possible changes. If the score opportunities are less diluted ( my main gripe with Esp.Ra.De and Esp.Galuda) and they actually introduce something new, i'm happy in advance (yes, even before playing it).

@GP: you mean the Jun's comic,right? I think it was a mini-series of 12 numbers, but please don't take this seriously :?

While galuga isn't my all time favourite cave game, it was certainly different in it's scoring gameplay

Seeing as we've just had mushi's chaining and ibara's garegga-ness, a return to galuda is probably welcome

(although something completely new would have been nicer)

I hope its horizontal - like Progear in the ESP universe... They said that Galuda was a vert Progear so I can see it working. Cave don't go for sequels too much (in terms of the names) so my thinking is that by keeping the name and appending a II they will attract old players.

Although your Cynic and Fanboy "modes" may sound a little extreme...I can understand where your coming from.
BUT, then again, Cave is a quality company. I mean, have they really let anyone down with their previous games...at least shooting wise?!

I can appreciate every shooter they've made thus far, and I really cannot see any reason to lose faith now. I'm no "Fanboy" either...just a fan of most ALL shooting games.

Well, the posts in this thread are not that far from my parody :?

Personally, i will wait for the game to be published. After all, if they make my new most loved shmups, i can't care less if it's the third title in a series :?

More than faith, it's just that of late, they're slacking off in the originality department. For the rest, i would be absolutely surprised if their titles wouldn't be more than excellent, as their standard are very high. It's just that, well, i've been told that the game mechanics should be somewhat innovative, so i will wait before making any considerations :?

I like the posters a lot. Galuda is my favorite Cave game by a fair bit, so I'm looking forward to seeing what they come up with for this one.

Ditto. Galuda is cool, but not cool enough, imo, to necessitate any more effort in that vein. Then again, they could do what they did with the Donpachi series and blow us away. They are cave, after all ;)

Because DDP is a different animal.
icycalm wrote:Well, if the Xbox and GC can't output low enough resolutions for Cave's shooters, I don't see how this game could ever be ported to PS3 or 360.

And it will probably run on the same hardware as Mushi and Ibara. So if it ever gets ported it will almost certainly have to be PS2 again...
ResOGlas wrote:Just out of curiosity, I hear a couple people mentioning how this game could not be ported to the newer systems because of Cave using low resolution. Wouldn't it all be up to the resolution of the monitor you're using? Also, if they did expect you to be playing on an HDTV, wouldn't it be possible to add an option to superimpose scanlines similar to MAME?
Mushihimesama was filtered, anyways, so at that point it doesn't matter what system it's running on. If you want true low rez., like we were blessed with on all the pre-Mushi ports, yes, you will need something other than a next-gen system... or upscan it and run it in high def., keeping the same aspect ratio, producing the same pixel perfect look.

With regards to the spelling: the only official romanization of the title I've seen has been ESPGALUDA, all caps. There's no period or alternating capitalization present. Since I'm not really keen on typing in all caps during polite conversation, I'm content to keep the E capitalized and lower-case the rest. If we were to decide on a single spelling for consistency, "Espgaluda" would be preferable.

That's exaclty what I do. I wonder how people came up with all the other romanizations. They seem pretty arbitrary.

ESP is not a word, it's an acronym (Extra Sensory Perception). In English, acronyms are predominantly always capitalized. Galuda is a proper name (the name of a Hindu[?] demi-god), and as such, it is grammatically correct to capitalize the first letter while the rest of the word remains lower-case.

Hence the romanization: ESPGaluda

Granted, seeing as how little any of us here can agree on anything, I fail to see how the multiple spellings of the title are of any significance.

The proper name is actually "Garuda". Galuda is just another bad translation...I guess they figure that all r's are l's on the original laguage by default. Attention Japanese: Sometimes it's really an R!

I say we spell it EeeEssPee GaROOOOOOOODAAAAAAAAAAAH!

What langauge does Garuda come from? I've seen it pop up in other fantasy-themed games.

Anyways, until I have enought time to have my way w/ the back of the flyer, I can let you know the title says:
"The 3rd Galuda: Asagi"
3 characters this time? No, I believe he's the bad guy.

I think Kiken is right when he says it comes from Hindu mythology, so I guess it'd be from India...however, there are tons of different Indian dialects, so who knows...maybe it even goes back to Sanskrit?

Huh, I always assumed that since the prior title was called EspRade, that EspGaluda was supposed to be EspGaurd (Ga-Ru-D(a). That's a typical japanese way of forming an english word.

Garuda/Galuda (if it comes from Sanskrit, then who knows how the fuck to spell it... not me) means bird/flying thing. ESP, means just that ESP. Considering ESPRade is pretty much Engrish, I'm happy with ESPGaluda, although it doesn't sound so good in English. We spell out acronyms, not say them. Japanese like to say them.

No new images, but the story is in place. I'll whack it out later, but this time, the main enemy is called the Souma - a group that has picked up the scraps after Shinra was defeated. And, it appears that Asagi is a hero, not a baddy.
