You got the one for current MAME, not ShmupMAME. Test in current MAME for performance/responsiveness first. Failing that, try to find a non-MAME ROM set (in the CPS2 section separate from the MAME section).Zengeku3 wrote:I'm seriously getting tired of when the downloads doesn't contain all the files. Seems reasonable if rapid-fire shoots a different weapon than hold-fire (see also R-Type, Soukyugurentai, Giga Wing, Blazing Star). If, as in Major Stryker or Tyrian, rapid-fire were a better version of hold-fire, I would see a case for blocking it.hwl wrote:on a side note: I find it ridiculous that autofire is allowed on games that don't support it, but that's just me I guess.
Re: STGT '11 Week 3 - 1944 Discussion
Erm, no. You're supposed to choose to either mash buttons or to hold it for charge shot. It'd reasonable if the pcb would offer a "rapidfire-button", but it doesn't. See Ketsui and DDP:DOJ (where it does) and Giga Wing (as an example for where it doesn't) etc. I just don't like the STGT-games, and I like the rules even less.Iori Branford wrote:Seems reasonable if rapid-fire shoots a different weapon than hold-fire (see also R-Type, Soukyugurentai, Giga Wing, Blazing Star). 1944 isn't supposed to be played with autofire.

Button mashing favours arcade sticks users. At least I find button mashing with a stick less laborious than with a keyboard or joypad's triggers, let alone face buttons.

So opinions and arguments aside, are we allowed to use a custom autofire button? I know autofire is allowed but not sure about custom buttons.

I can totally see why somebody thinks it's "wrong" to play some games with autofire. The problem is, with certain controllers it's more pain than developers intended. That's not "right" either.

It better be allowed, or else my thumbs are gonna be sore as hell.
Also, it seems like it may be better to just get gold for the gold bonus than to actually go for destruction rates. Unless you can somehow incorporate the two together.

Autofire and custom buttons are allowed, dex hates carpal tunnel syndrome as much as anybody.

That's what I mean. I'm starting to think maybe some stages are better for gold/strawberries and some stages better for 100%.Illyrian wrote:If you're not collecting strawberries you're doing it wrong.ratikal wrote:It better be allowed, or else my thumbs are gonna be sore as hell.

Playing this game on Shmupmame 3.0 b. How do I get the game to display at the correct aspect ratio while at the same time preserving the proper appearance / spacing of scan lines?

Autofire in any form is allowed. In the superplay I've been watching the guy has like...super autofire that fires retardedly fast and his charge shot deals ridiculous damage.

Yep, it's called cheating. It's like aimbots and wallhacks were allowed in a FPS-tournament.Illyrian wrote:Autofire in any form is allowed. In the superplay I've been watching the guy has like...super autofire that fires retardedly fast and his charge shot deals ridiculous damage.
That's one of the reasons why STGT and the shmup-community sucks. :>

Aimbots and wallhacks being compared to autofire? haha. Good one.hwl wrote:Yep, it's called cheating. Aimbots would be like having a macro for the game to move to where you would need to shoot. Wallhacks would be like having invincibility.

Yo Sikraiken, what is that in your Avatar picture?
Also Autofire is fine, I'd play shmups a lot less if I had to give myself carpal tunnel all the time.

I'm fine with autofire. Whoever thought that mashing buttons until your wrist falls off was supposed to be fun? I'm glad that Raiden DX has an auto-fire. It's one of the several reasons that it's better than RII.

I thought it was the FFIX character with glowing eyes.
After two Fun Weapons™ games, this one lacks that something. On the surface it's got things I like in my verticals (fast bullets and stuff), but shooting feels like in some modern shmup where you suck the hitpoints out of the enemies through a sipper. No pulse weapons, no close range attack, no "rhythm" to it. Coming from a company co-founded by former Compile staff, it's a disappointment. Sure, there's the charged shot, but R-type it is not. Waiting for it to charge as the enemies perform their dance and leave the screen is no fun.
I mean, using rockets in Daioh feels like pounding popcorn enemies out of your way. No such basic pleasure waiting to be had from the word go here.

I once wasnt too keen on using autofire, but playing Mad Shark with a pad gave me carpal tunnel so bad that I couldnt use my hand for a week. My hand is more or less ok atm unless im using the mouse or typing for a long time that I start to feel little twinges in my wrist.nZero wrote:Autofire and custom buttons are allowed, dex hates carpal tunnel syndrome as much as anybody.
However it is a shame that all the autofires ive come across in emulators dont have a long delay time. Idealliy i would like to set the rate at the same speed I can button tap.

Re: STGT '11 Week 3 - 1944 Discussion
wow I just tried with auto-fire the ennemies are just obliterated, insane speed(kinda like darius gaidenX100).
I used to play this game a bit and always done awfully due to exhausting button mashing(although you can tap not like a maniac and fire at constant rate, just slower).
I really felt like I was using a cheat though.
Anyway it's all good STGT is for fun not torture (we're not TG afterall
