Do I have to be at the top quarter of the screen? I thought I just had to kill an enemy at the top quarter of the screen? I've been sitting here playing a while, and on the 2nd stage, I entered with 0 gems with a full and an empty over mode and got 500 green gems just shorty before the midboss pops up either way.
There's either barely any difference, or you're all playing a terrible trick on me
EDIT
Nope, getting the same gems whether I'm sitting at the top or the bottom of the screen.
EDIT 2
Oh wait, I had around 470 with no Kakusei over level on the 2nd level where I hit 500 with full Kakusei over mode. What's that, a 6% increase? So instead of getting 100 gems, I'll have 106... that hardly makes the chaining of later levels impossible...

Well we should be thrilled about getting any new shmups releases at all. Only a few developers still make shmups, they need all the support they get. For many developers it takes only one game that sells bad for them to abandon the genre.NTSC-J wrote:I don't understand those of you that are surprised some of us are less than thrilled about this.

Hey hey HEY!!!
You guys better stop it! This thread isn't about some "strategy/scoring" discussion...its about judging Cave's newest game before its even released.
Remember the last "This Game Will Suck...even before we play it" thread?
Wasen't it Trizeal?
Oh yea, back on topic, I've lost all faith in Cave...they suck, so everything that they make from here on out, will no doubtingly suck even moreso!
Smell that sarcasm?

Hopefully, about the same as the last one. They make enough games to punish the skilled players, one of galudas major plus points was that anyone can play and enjoy it, without being stamped in the face like DOJ does. I actually wonder if they did learn their lesson from DOJ - games on defaults should be pitched to challenge an average skill player from the spread of people likely to put money into the machine. This does not mean making it tough for Billy-GTA, it means making it tough for the average STG player.Valgar wrote:I wonder about the games difficulty this time around.
Of course, the optimum situation is a repeat of what we saw in Mushi - multiple play difficulties, but if they only go with one - I don't want it to get impossible by level 4 for anyone other than Clover-TAC, because at that point their game difficulty curve is broken - and aimed in the wrong direction.

Look, a new Cave game is an event. They're my favorite game developer in the world. Sometimes I wonder if I'd even really play games as much as I do if it weren't for them, but their art direction just hasn't been the same since Joker Jun left. Galuda has a cast of goofy lime-green fairies. Mushihimesama and Ibara are both so busy rubbing their ass in my face that I can barely stand it.
Esprade and Guwange both pulled off the character-based shmup with much more grace because they didn't get silly or sell-out to the grimly-jerking resin kit builders.
As for difficulty, I can handle it if the game is a little softer than DOJ or Mushi, but here's a plea: ONE MODE. Give me just a single coin-in mode, no bullshit chances for autofire hacks and I'll be really happy. Leave the alternate modes to future revisions or home ports, but don't fuck with the core game.

Damn those people that play games and try to understand, instead of posting "oomgplzkthx byz00rz00rx Cave wtff!!1!"...Zweihander wrote: this was a cool topic until people started bitching and talking about ESPG1 score tactics.... NEHHHHHXT....
For the ones who care: Esp.Galuda might be something different. It is still speculation, but they wanted to use a different engine, this time.On one side, the basic idea is still about bullet cancelling to trigger higher multipliers, but that's all i know. Beside that, my gossip pusher may not be reliable...we'll see.
Personal speculation: they will remove any form of milking to make the average play shorter. Not that Esp.Galuda had infinite milking like Esp.Ra.De, but the shorter a complete play is, the better (for arcade operators, of course).

Some people here write Espgaluda, others ESPGaluda and now ESP.Galuda.
Would it be possible to come to an agreement on this? We might as well since there really isn't that much worthy of discussion until new information arrives.
I motion for ESPGALUDA/espgaluda. I have never seen official Cave promotional material write it in any other way.

Every Cave game has been original, regardless of whether it's a sequel, so I don't think it's going to be a re-hash. I'm expecting the unexpected with this one.Dandy J wrote: Well since it's called ESPGaluda 2 and not ESP???, we are assuming it will use the exact same system as ESPGaluda with a few tweaks. Not that ESPGaluda wasn't great, but when the only thing that changes is the graphics/music and score system, it's a bit disappointing to expect the exact same thing. Well I hope I'm wrong.
SHOOT IT QUICKLY !

The Dukes of Hazard !!! Fuck yeah -- I want this in a shmup

Oh god yes. I just want to focus on the game without thinking about whether or not my shot frequency is at a perfect level, or if tweaking it is cheating, or if I should focus on playing Maniac or Normal to start off.Randorama wrote:So you can avoid thinking...?8 1/2 wrote:

I'll play the game. I'll probably love it. I don't mean to totally shit on the idea of a new Cave shooter, but the idea of Galuda 2 sort of hit me like saltine crackers.

Sunday. My plane arrives late on Saturday, and then I'm going to Air to a friend of mine's party. In any normal circumstances I'd count on getting fucked up until about 10AM and sleep until 7 the next evening, since I never see this guy, but the old ball-and-chain (wife) has me on a really short leash this time. I have to actually "do stuff" this trip, so partying has to be kept to a minimum.

Good news. I'm thankful Cave is around. If they want do do an ESPRaDe 2019 sometime, that's fine as well.
Having two modes would be nice. The first could be roughly equal in difficulty to the first ESPGaluda, while the second could be like Maniac in Mushihime.
I'm not expecting the exact same thing. Cave did make some substantial tweaks when DOJ hit- the Hyper is a bigger difference than you'd think. When you get good chains, you're rewarded by filling the hyper meter faster.

I will be pretty pissed off if they have Origianl and Maniac modes. I'd rather see them have faith in one. If the game looks like a proper sequel (ie - built on the ESPGaluda engine with some upgrades) then I'll likely lift the PCB when it first comes out. Never done that before... gotta try it once.
