Oops. Thanks for the correction.

How about StarFox and Out Of This World? I remember when polygon animation was still being tried out on the 16-bit systems. Sure, they're choppy now, but I think these two were fun at the time. Try Super E.D.F. IN SPITE of the massive slow-downs and flicker during boss fights; the music warn't that bad, either 8)

Jedi is not hard at all, seriously - go back to it and it's a piece of cake. Empire is ludicrously hard though.
Empire is a broken piece of junk. I can't believe they even released it in that state.

No-one's mentioned Phalanx yet. It's not the best shmup ever, but it's a solid memoriser (for those with the patience) with some neat design attributes and an interesting X68000 heritage.

Most games have been mentioned, but one missing was Ogre Battle, a favorite of mine, though it's one of those games you always need a walkthrough if going for 100% completion and certain endings.

Ninja Gaiden Trilogy is pretty fun too, if just to see the differences with the NES versions. I doubt anyone will like this but me, but I liked Gundam F91: Formula Senki 0122 (no english patch though).

And another list to see good obscure games (though I disagree with a lot of their choices):
http://www.racketboy.com/retro/2007/02/ ... -snes.html

The problem I've always had with playing emulated games is, in general, it takes me at least a hour to really decide if a game is good. If you only put 5 minutes into the games above before deciding if the game is good or not, I guarantee you'll think the games above will suck and will switch it out for the next game - an easy thing to do with such a large library to pick from.

.....

Oooh, I didn't know an Iria game was released for SNES....

This is exactly the kind of stuff I'm looking for! I have a huge weak spot for mech games.

Whoever said Seiken Densetsu 3. I love that game. 2nd favorite in the mana series. (Legend of Mana being my favorite)

...as far as Demon's Crest. I really do not like the game. I played it when I was younger and spent a few hours beating it the first time. Then I figured out you could literally go to the last boss right away and beat the game. It totally ruined it for me.

Drum, if you're not just baiting a response, the answer is the list of games. Looks 100% like troll fodder.

There is one on ebay right now for 70.00$

I'm so tempted to buy the game but don't own a super nintendo, so it would also involve me buying a system and other games I want for it too. That's a can of worms I really want to avoid. ...lol trying to limit my game collecting to just one system. so much harder done than said.

I'm asking why you think it looks like troll fodder. What about that list of well-regarded classics, near-classics and interesting curiosities is '100% troll fodder'? Because I think you might be insane.

Super SWIV
Rock 'n' Roll Racing

And make sure you play Assault Suits Valken with the English language patch rather than the regionalised Cybernator.

Haha, that game is pretty much Assault Suits Valken: the Square RPG. Definitely worth playing, but not amazing. A neat trick is that the second controller can control your "friend" mech if you pushed some buttons down together on it.

Way overpriced.

It's not a very good game anyhow.

Another sale ruined, thanks!! ;)

Only kidding - though i am selling Hyper Iria, $70 is on the pricey side but it can fetch around $60 or so here in VG/M condition (again, weak $ vs Yen doesn't help that)

haha, it's all good mate, no problems. I've agreed with all your takes so far :)

No good hyping up something when you know it's not all that great just to make an overpriced sale.

I'm all for honest appraisals of 'wares, it's mandatory in my house at least! ;) The wife would cut me down where i stood if she saw me hyping subpar games.

so.... do you want to buy Hyper Iria... $150 ? it's amazing! ;)

How much are you selling your copy for dcharlie? what condition is it in? I know where there is a boxed complete copy for 49$, I just didn't want to say in case I do decide to buy it.

The game typically goes for $20-30 on eBay open auction. But if folks are so eager to buy it that they're willing to pay $50 or more, be my guest. That seems to be the trend of many uncommon SFC games in the past few years.

HHHmmm if I can get it for 20 or 30$ I could easily live with that. I would be fine without spending big dollars on a system and all the other games I want for it even. Guess I just need to be patient.

Hyper Iria is one of rather few Japanese shots at "cinematic platformer" in 2D, a bit like Majyuuou, but with less arcadey controls (there is double jump in both, though). I actually like the controls in Hyper Iria (especially the powerful kick - it feels just right having seen the live action Zeiram film), but then again, I'm fine with the controls of Another World and Flashback (still can't stand Prince of Persia). While Iria is armed to the teeth, there is a sense of human fragility and survival adventure to it.
If you want an obscure, faster paced, arcadey platformer, go for Magical Pop'n or Ardy Lightfoot. I for one wish Japanese developers made more 2D platformers in the "cinematic" subgenre than, um, Hyper Iria, Majyuuou, Nosferatu and not much else it seems (come to think of it, all three are Super Famicom games). Maybe A Shadow's Tale qualifies too.

I appreciate Super Metroid a lot more as an adult; the exploration possibilities the game design gives you are more apparent to me now.

Mega Man X2 was probably my least loved X title as a kid, but these days I consider it the series' high point.

The original Harvest Moon remains one of the best games in its series, partially because it's nice to have a solid stopping point. I appreciate the extra features the later games have added, but sometimes the simple life is best.

Earthbound is Earthbound. I love everything about it.

Robotrek was my first RPG. I still think it's pretty neat. I never did figure out what the point of Sword 4 was considering Sword 3 was the best weapon in the game.

Final Fantasy III/VI turned me into an RPG freak. If it weren't for this game, I would have bought an N64 instead of a Playstation. I still think the story, music, graphics, and gameplay are fantastic.

I also want to take this opportunity to give props to Clock Tower, though it's probably not high on a lot of people's lists. I used to run through it multiple times per day when I was trying to get all the endings and trigger the various scenarios and murders.

*repeated moan warning*

we are back to the strong yen problem unfortunately - whilst i'd agree that it shouldn't command the figure it does because the game isn't all that , it just doesn't make any sense for me to sell it shy of around $50. It's in very very good condition and is complete - last time i enquired i was told 2500-3200 depending on quite -how- good the "good condition" is so at the top end that comes out around $40 (then i don't have to ship anywhere etc etc)

and with the $ dropping against the $ by the minute it's starting to get that if i sell outside of Japan i'm going to get less :/

No you can't. :) You need all of the crests or whatever.
I say give it another spin. I also hated Castlevania IV the first time I played it...

this - the game IS actually tripe for the first X (i seem to want to say 8) levels and then suddenly it takes off. Once you are through the dull parts it's pretty awesome.

Demon's Crest is fantastic. Loved it.

I gush for SCIV. It's a little slow initially, but the atmosphere, music and sense of adventure makes me weak at the knees.

Yoshi's Island
Kirby's Dreamland 3
Metal Warriors
Tetris Attack
I disagree with the shooter statement, but those are all really good games...

I would like SCIV more if it didn't break the fundamentals of Castlevania so badly. Forgot to mention: Aero Fighters SNES is one of the rare few examples of a 16-bit era console port turning out better than the arcade version.

Absolutely love Tetris Attack. Probably the SNES/SFC game I play the most. Much better than the SFC version Panel de Pon imho.

The SNES/SFC has such a deep and quality library of games. Take your time discovering the gems and enjoying them.

That would've been me. But wouldn't you agree it has the menus from HELL??? I mean...damn!

I would also like to chip in Tactics Ogre. It's pretty awesome, but it's "training" mode is a big flaw. They fixed it on the PSP. But if you have the time, it's a great game.
