That would leave me out in the cold. Last time I tried out Batsugun and a handful of other Toaplan shmups on my Athlon 2000+, they were not running at 100% speed. Plays most Raizing and Psikyo shmups, both Vasaras, Air Gallet and everything by Cave just fine.
Oh well, that's unfortunate. If there are any issues with Toaplan games performance-wise, I'll retract that Batsugun suggestion. Maybe there's a possibility to get rid of those problems besides buying a new System? :D

Space Bomber, hell yeah. Mahou Daisakusen is very accessible (for a Raizing game at least, i.e. there's no bullet visibility gimmick to it), but seems too well known to be a fair candidate. Space Bomber, on the other hand, is a rarely name-dropped game I fancy getting into.
I'd suggest the original Zero Gunner (on Model 2 Emulator), but it doesn't like my current video card.

R-Type Leo just for the music alone is worth throwing in. both Vasara games are not really talked about around these parts, so those would work as well. I know I have the first one, but I've never really played the second game in the series. Last year was my first year, and I'm thinking I'm a little better these days, so I'd love to take part again this year.

I have never played a non-bullethell shooter and I am just average at bullet hells.
If anyone wants to give me a chance then please PM me. I should have enough time to train since I am sitting here 14 hours a day.

Downloaded Ootake earlier along with Soldier Blade. I'm pleasantly surprised how nice it looks, perhaps we could do Soldier Blade?

So games like Mars Matrix Arrange? Crimzon Clover? Raiden IV? Ether Vapor? Unless there's a miracle, its not likely to happen. Try suggesting something more readily available.
ok, obviously accesibility is a must. I didn't realize that Raiden IV was such an oddball though. I mean it is a NA game for 360. I wouldn't call that innaccesible. But whatever. MAME is fine with me.
Yeah, literally. Plus, how come would you not let players play on any emulator or pcb that is not accessible? Besides, MM Arrange, RIV, Ether Vapor, and CC require you to buy one, including a console, so NOT COOL.
raigon50 wrote:If there is a console week, then we should stick to the easily emulated consoles, such as NES, SNES, and Megadrive. Gameboy too, but I doubt any suggestions for Solar Striker would be made. Once again, how about M.U.S.H.A.?(srry, I like that game.) It's not too obscure and the scoring is simpler, plus it can be reasonably difficult and it's easily emulated on the Gen. I would be fine with TurboGrafx's Spriggan if it weren't such a bitch to emulate, but maybe I'm doing something wrong...
Yeah, either. Besides, it is much better to play those things than to play on a modern-generation console (X360, PS3, Wii, etc.) because there hasn't been an STGT that has "8-Bit Week" or "16-Bit Week". :)

Yes, and like I said, it requires you to BUY, BUY, BUY! So, we suggest NOT to be given these games a choice for STGT and it is NOT a good idea. Furthermore, we decided to have only games that are EASILY accessible. And if you're not down with that, tinotormed has got two words for ya this STGT:

SUCK IT!

Easy milking/infinite scoring bug. We'd have to play one of the Caravan modes.

I'm thinking about trying to get some of us first-timers to form up a team. Not sure how many would go for it though.

How about we also add Aero Fighters? The game hasn't got any attention since the last few years.

Those are really easy to do. I've got a setup equivalent to "it was good 10 years ago" and it runs F3/SPI almost perfectly (in 0.99). This is around what it takes to do CAVE games in newer MAME.

As for nomltest, does it not run in WINE? Cho Ren Sha does (or did), I know. Not sure about any real fix for Mac users.

I think there's another issue going on there.

Mine either. It really works fine but the built-in recorder is crap since mine desyncs. So you're gonna need a video recorder to record your runs.

Make FRAPS your friend. If that fails, then use CamStudio.

Edit:
I did find a rom of Soldier Blade: Caravan mode. I played it, and it's also quite enjoyable. Using that would be best.

I do have Fraps and it works for me. CamStudio does the same, but no sound. I played some games recently with Ootake, and the recording works with Fraps. When you press F9, it minimizes. Just click it again to start the record. Oh, and thanx for joining. :)

Console Week? I'd suggest Aero Star (made by Vic Tokai), for Game Boy, though I don't know if the scoring is viable (I played it when I was little). Though I also don't know about anti-cheat measures for emulating it.. (I don't even know how to emulate it, but I liked that game)

I honestly don't have any suggestions for STGT games other than "least memorization required" :p (flexible scoring systems, which wouldn't induce restarts, are fine too)

This team isn't open for all to join just yet, tinotormed. So you may want to hold off on the recruitment push for the moment.

I'm currently waiting on some responses from a couple of people, and when I've gotten answers, and know how many open slots we actually have, then I'll open up the team for newbies and regulars alike. Cool?

V-V should get some serious consideration. It's a fantastic game that gets very little love (e.g., three people voted for it in last year's top 25 polling). I'd give it the edge over Batsugun Special, since the latter counterstops and has a fair amount of milking.

I'll be waiting for the registration. Oh, and cool new banner. It's from Salamander/Lifeforce from Konami. I'll try mine Aleste since I am more on the vertical perspective.

I've heard people complain about V-V, but it's really not to bad. I'll second it, as long as we don't play the Gen version.
And I'll wait till you guys are ready to start serious recruiting.

Don't worry. You're pretty much in since we have six slots total. I just don't want to have to tell anyone they're in or not until I've gotten my responses and know what's what (or at least until a reasonable amount of time's gone by without getting a reply).

And remember, LifeForce has alternating hori and vert stages. And since each joined member gets a corresponding stage for their banner (I'm the first and captain, so mine's stage 1 boss), who knows... you may just get a vert slot... which... sounds a little dirty.

But these don't exist. Even the lack of a scoring system is still prone to "restart syndrome".
