comments/thoughts:
- by looking at the blog entries
here, the translators/teams are usually different people (for example, there's some people who've helped make/improve IaMP's netplay client, so that it would support GGPO-style rollbacks, who've helped with the translation patches of some games), and by remembering (not really accurately) the release dates for the most recent patches, it seems that the translation scripts (except the endings) are quickly posted on the
Touhou Wiki (this means, there's a good enough number of western fans who can read, translate and proof-read them), but the patches don't come as quickly, because there's few people within the western fanbase who're capable of creating such patches (for example, since MoF and SA use the same "game engine", SA's patch was apparently made by the same people, shortly after MoF's was released)
- I've used the 'western' word quite a few times in the above comment, because the japanese fanbase is large enough to provide quite a number of fan-made games (besides other material such as doujinshi and music cds), besides having good players for both the shmups and the fighting games. I'd really like to know what's their process for creating games..
