No, not for that piece of trash.

This:

To my knowledge, the original version's story has never been seen in English in any way, shape, or form.

What's not done:
Title Screen
Errata text; tutorial, online scoreboards, credits, etc.
Voicework in its entirety(Shoujo and Fumiko are still in JP)

I would love do this, but I don't know read this language.
Sorry!

This is the story of game:

"In July 2005, a string of serial murders took place in Tokyo, where all the victims were female and killed by external injury. The killings took place within 20 hours.

On July 21, the 31st victim was found. The police force classified the case as special crime #568, and began to seek investigators from occult sources.

The story begins on July 23rd, with the 32nd victim."

Cool!

How to go about it is, I think you need someone to figure out the file format, and write a small custom program to extract and put the text in a regular text file. Then, line by line, you change the text to English. Finally, you need another custom program to put the new text back in the same location and re-archive it.

But, is it out of the question to just translate it and type it out the old-fashioned way?

Believe me, I've tried.

I'm starting to think those guys have never played a shmup that ISN'T Touhou.

I've had more luck with people who don't know even play shmups, who just want to help for the challenge.

I feel an anti touhou tard rant comming on.... (counts to 10) sigh, ill refrain from ranting as i told myself i would turn a new leaf and be a much calmer person towards the retar.. er touhou fans :P

u could always take screen shots and send them to whoever for translation if they dont wanna actually play the shmups especially if theres some hidden dialog that requires a 1cc or something like it.

There isn't, but fortunately, that won't be necessary. We've found a Japanese wiki that lists every single piece of dialogue from Shikigami 1.

Never underestimate the obsessive power of otaku.

comments/thoughts:

- by looking at the blog entries here, the translators/teams are usually different people (for example, there's some people who've helped make/improve IaMP's netplay client, so that it would support GGPO-style rollbacks, who've helped with the translation patches of some games), and by remembering (not really accurately) the release dates for the most recent patches, it seems that the translation scripts (except the endings) are quickly posted on the Touhou Wiki (this means, there's a good enough number of western fans who can read, translate and proof-read them), but the patches don't come as quickly, because there's few people within the western fanbase who're capable of creating such patches (for example, since MoF and SA use the same "game engine", SA's patch was apparently made by the same people, shortly after MoF's was released)
- I've used the 'western' word quite a few times in the above comment, because the japanese fanbase is large enough to provide quite a number of fan-made games (besides other material such as doujinshi and music cds), besides having good players for both the shmups and the fighting games. I'd really like to know what's their process for creating games..

You guys need any help with translators? I don't know anything about hacking, but if you want someone to help lighten the workload, I might be able to help out.

In all honesty, Touhou isn't terrible... it's just not very good either. I mean, I'd rather be playing Imperishable Night than any given Psikyo game, but that isn't saying much. If anything, they're average entry-level shmups for someone who's never played a bullet hell game, but the problem is that so many ret-- er, fans, choose to limit themselves to NOTHING BUT Touhou.

I still have yet to see any memes spawn from Cave or Raizing games on the retardation level of "CIRNO 99999999999!!!! XDDDDDDDDDD", thus proving Touhou's main draw for most of its fans isn't the games themselves, it's the LOL SO RANDUM anime characters.

Absolutely. My Messenger is cjiwakura@hotmail.com, or AIM at cjiwakurax if you prefer.

All help is welcome, but most of all, we need hacker assists.

That is going to be the hardest part.

Thx for the update as its good to know the team is still working on it. Apart from spending 15 minutes sampling one of the games ive yet to spend any quality time with this series. I think im gonna wait untill the translation is done and dusted before I give it ago as itll enhance the experience when I actually do play it.

I also wanna play RSG and the Raiden Fighters games on mame but have been paitently waiting for the PAL rereleases, looks like I might aswell give the RF games ago since the PAL version is stillborn.

Again thx for anyone working on the project, I have a lot of respect for the dudes who translate all Japanese only classics, I just wish there was more of you guys out there, especially those who dont translate SNES JRPGs and Visual Novels since thats what most translation groups tend to stick to. A STG translation team is a rare thing indeed. Do you think the team will stick together after this project? I imagine that the process will be easier once youve cut your teeth working on this.

Same applies to manga why are there so many groups all making their individual scans of the same popular series like Bleach or Naruto when theres thousands of great series out there that never get translated and even those that are rarely get passed the first volume

Can't see why not. My dream goal is Growlanser, but an STG and an RPG... yeah. Huge difference. :P

Heck, I wouldn't mind retranslating Shikigami 2's script to make sense. Assuming that's possible.

Shikigami 1 has very little text, really. So I'll be putting as much effort as I can into making it special.

No, she didn't, but I was following her work. All she did was translated screencaps.

I mean a bonafide hack.

But it would be easily three times as difficult, since Shikigami 2 introduced 2P storylines. So many paths.

I really hope you achieve that dream, as the untranslated Growlanser games are the games I want to play an english version of the most, after the saturn Langrissers

While you're at it, could anything be done to make 2D (sprites, captions) look sharper? On my setup everything 2D looked like smeared away with bilinear filtering. Awful, which is a shame, since the spritework is pretty neat.

Hacking help? Oh god yes.

Translation is covered, though.

It's not impossible, but Shikigami 2 would be a mammoth undertaking, due to all the possible pairings and each having a unique story.

On second thought, sure thing. Send me a message.

I could use an extra hand to help me translate the art gallery content.
(Yes, I will translate that too; I don't believe in half measures. )

Translation is churning along to completion. As for the hacking, well, we're picking away at it.

At least it can't get more difficult!

That said, maybe these'll help tide you over.

I also made a facebook page since that's what the cool kids seem to be doing, but I don't suppose this project will garner the devout following of, say, Mother 3 or Soul Hackers.

Speaking of Soul Hackers, someone should really get around to doing Devil Summoner.

I assume you'll just leave the other two SnS games alone, then?

No, it wasn't. The Raidou games were. (DS 3 & 4 respectively.)
