I liked Deathsmiles more when it was untranslated, to be perfectly honest with you.cj iwakura wrote:No box is one thing. No translation is entirely another.

I know this is the sequel to their first U.S. game...but man, did this have to be the first one they brought over personally? Blah..

If they have translated the text I'd have thought it's most likely to be RSG's next Cave port. If not then I guess DFK/Katana. Basically if they were localizing the game for RSG wouldn't they publish that version in the U.S?
Even though it's a good game I think it's the wrong title for them to try this out with.

Translation isn't really an issue at all - making sure all the menus are fully translated is more important than the story for me. I'm kind of worried this won't sell well, but then again how well does it really need to sell? I hope it gets an EU release either way, and having more of Cave's 360 games on demand would be amazing. Not really fussed about digital vs physical, I just want to get playing.
Re: Deathsmiles IIX (Xbox 360)
I was definitely expecting a localization of Akai Katana before this.

Why shouldn't it be? It's their 2nd best selling shooter and one of their most accessible ones (two things that are closely related). It will most likely sell better than any other title they could have chosen.evil_ash_xero wrote:but man, did this have to be the first one they brought over personally? Blah..

Depends, they might be trying to get RSG to publish it on GoD, not retail.dan76 wrote:If they have translated the text I'd have thought it's most likely to be RSG's next Cave port.

Well....hrmmmm....what may sell well in Japan may not be as attractive to U.S. buyers. They may look at DSII and just see Dreamcast era graphics. But who knows. I think Futari or Galuda II would have been fine choices for a download. Actually, if Shin turns out to be as good as it SEEMS it may be, that may have been the follow up to DS that would have been best to put up for download. But then again, what do I know? NOTHING!

Re: Deathsmiles IIX (Xbox 360)
Futari and Galuda 2 are both region free and can be had for a cheap price already due to their platinum releases, so those wouldn't be good choices at all. Akai Katana Shin won't be out in Japan until next month, and if they had gone with that game instead, their main audience (the Japanese) wouldn't be very happy to find out that Cave decided to sell it in the US early for less than half the price. Besides that, Deathsmiles 2 is the sequel to their best selling shooter, and the first one both sold relatively well in the US and received very good word-of-mouth.evil_ash_xero wrote:Well....hrmmmm....what may sell well in Japan may not be as attractive to U.S. buyers. Akai Katana Shin is THIS month, not next month. It's less than two weeks away, in fact...

Cave wont release their shmups worldwide at the same time. It stops western fans importing and double dipping

I'm holding out hope that they'll make an unprecedented move and make the platinum version region-free since they've clearly given up hope that a US publisher will obtain the rights for a disc release.
Re: Deathsmiles IIX (Xbox 360) - US GoD release May 17
What, and jeopardise the US GoD sales? No chance.
Re: Deathsmiles IIX (Xbox 360) - US GoD release May 17
A sale is a sale. Perhaps 70% of $30 ($21) is bigger than their share of a Japanese disc sale, but, for people who won't buy the GoD release anyway, I would think that a sub-optimal sale is better than no sale.bcass wrote:What, and jeopardise the US GoD sales? No chance.
Plus they want people in Europe to play the game. I guess it depends what RSG is doing, but since the original was going for like 2 pounds in British shops, I think RSG is also done with the series.

About DS Pal the 2 places I can find it locally were both £20 last time I checked, one of which was 2nd hand lol. Still its very cheap online
Re: Deathsmiles IIX (Xbox 360) - US GoD release May 17
According to Joystiq, Microsoft have confirmed you will be able to use MS point to purchase the game. You don't have to use a credit card.
I'm just waiting to hear what's happening about a UK/European release now.

Out of curiosity, with the Games on Demand stuff, can you just get an American account and then download it through GoD with that account on US marketplace?

No, Games on Demand stuff is IP-locked.BPzeBanshee wrote:Out of curiosity, with the Games on Demand stuff, can you just get an American account and then download it through GoD with that account on US marketplace?

I'm just waiting to see what the region locking status of the GoD release will be - I'd gladly double-dip, but I no longer own an NA console.

I think these releases are console region specific.StarCreator wrote:I'm just waiting to see what the region locking status of the GoD release will be - I'd gladly double-dip, but I no longer own an NA console.
I tried getting the us GoD release of Raiden fighters on my japanese system (I have my japanese system hooked up to my egret 2, and don't feel like switching systems for one game.........and was trying to get it cheaper than the official japanese release).
First it wouldn't let me download it because it was the wrong region system. Then I thought I'd be clever. I downloaded it onto my US system using the same hard drive I use for my japanese system. Then I moved the hard drive to the japanese system.
Guess what happened? Yep, it said the disc was not the same region as the console (even though there was no disc).
Thwarted at every turn!!!!!

Re: Deathsmiles IIX (Xbox 360) - US GoD release May 17
Sure enough, GoD containers are nothing more than disc file dumps with a fancy header.Jack Burton wrote:I think these releases are console region specific.StarCreator wrote:I'm just waiting to see what the region locking status of the GoD release will be - I'd gladly double-dip, but I no longer own an NA console.

Fun fact: not the actual disc itself is region locked, the region lock is set in the main executable of the game.
So if the region lock is in the default.xex (main executable) of the game in question, it will also be locked in the GoD container.
You *could* revert that, but that would break the signature and render the container unplayable on a retail unit.
Long story short, for extra convenience: go JTAG! ;D
