I was talking about the 'lucky lucky lucky' part. :)

Anybody that's been here long enough knows that Stuart Campbell was here for a while.

Ah, got you - that makes complete sense.
Was his main problem about Raiden3 perchance?

In case you care, this is when our admins in their infinite wisdom decided to allow Mr. Campbell to pursue new interests elsewhere:

PS.
Good luck with your quest. How long is it going to take? 2 games a day on ~300 days a year = ~7years?

Looking back at some of the Stuart Campbell threads, I feel ashamed of completely losing control and just offend him directly. I think I ruined a very nice thread from Randorama about Gradius back there... well I know I didn't do it alone, but I could had been "better" and not get into the provocations of said journalist. It's just that I had to take him in TWO forums, and nonetheless my favourite forums at that time. It was hard to not "go mad" and just say what I wanted to say to him - I actuallty felt more like doing some "direct violent action" on him, but fortunately this is not possible on Internet - and this makes me feel really ashamed, as most of the time I am a very calm and friendly person, not to mention I am a militant of the non-violence culture.

Well, it's all in the past now :) Still I feel ashamed that I had done so wrongly, heh :)

Rockwaldo, can I suggest you one thing? There should be some kind of index to your blog. Everytime I check it, I do it from the first entry... and then I have to keep on clicking in the "next" entry up until I get in the most recent post.

This is ok by now... but I guess when you reach.. say.. NEW RALLY-X, I'll have to be clicking like a thousand of times to get into the latest post :)

Oh, and you should have played all games of Aero Fighters with Koeful the Vinking. He's the best... always... if you are playing a Sonic Winga games, and he's there, pick him, he's always your best option :)

Oh believe me, I know Stuart very well from a few forums as well - to be honest the best way to deal with him is to just laugh at his frothing swearing abuse. If you manage to see past all that - he actually does make a lot of sense and gives great advice. It's a hell of a thing to see past though as he does love a personal insult or two.

Yeah, i've been thinking about that, and i will add some sort of index style thing as i get more and more games in. If you go to the page via this link:

www.tombstoned.co.uk/words each time doesn't it automatically put you on the latest post?

And yes, LOVE the viking guy - absolutely coincidental that he has the ship that I most get on with as well.

Just a quick question - what would be considered a reasonable score on Aero Fighters? I managed 311,700 after a few goes which isnt bad - what would you say I should aim for realistically?

I wouldn't know, as the only Sonic Wings game I played seriosuly was Sonic Wings Special .

Curiously enough, we don't have a hi-score board for this game here...

Lol

Yeah, If I was you I'd post a thread in the hi-score section, just so you could brag about it.

Up until someone decides to give a go and destroy your score :)

Hey, let me tell you something, when I get home I'll give a go at the game and see how much I can do . Maybe my experience with Sonic Wings Special will help, though I believe SWS is the easiest game in the whole series... when I tried Sonic Wings 2 in a local arcade I got my ass whooped so quickly it wasn't even funny.

You could compare Sonic Wings to Psikyo games and come up with some relatively decent scoring estimates.

I'd say 600k is good after a bit of practice. 800k to 1mil for a 1-ALL.

Is there any difference between Sonic Wings Special and the Sonic Wings Limited PCB (difficulty, extras)? I finally found this PCB and should be getting it next week. Wouldn't mind posting scores but I'll be starting from scratch having never played the series before.

They are completely different games. They have nothing in common besides having the same concept of remixing the three original SW games and throwing in some extra stuff.

Hi all:

I may be a little late in contributing to this discussion on TG, but here is what I think.

I don't think TG or any Asian score boards have attitude problems. As said before, the main causes why these two sides of the world do not communicate are language barriers and force of habits. Imagine you just had a verified high score. You would probably post the score in a language that you use. What's more, you would post that score in a site where most of your friends/members of your community (who also use your language) know about. Since most great shmup players are in Asia, we ended up having western score boards (with western participants) with no world-wide high scores...

The solution? Imagine that we who live in the west managed to surpass them in shmup scores and start posting in the High Score board, say, in TG or in this forum. Then, sooner or later, the situation would reverse... The Asian score boards would be looking at our verified high scores and wonder why we don't post in their boards...

In short, if you want to be the defacto world record holding board, you need the participation of defacto record holding players...

Cheers.

Ugh, this 193 thing is giving me headaches.

I've played 4 games and written down full impressions for two of them. Here's what the 'impressions' (they look more like mini-mini reviews) look like.
Bio Attack
Year: 1983
Developer: Taito
Orientation: Vert
Description:

Bio Attack is the vert that should have been a hori. You play as what I'm guessing is a small medical ship that's traveling through the human body fighting demon cats with spears, little frogs, asexually reproducing bacteria and aliens. I think. The sprites are a little to ugly too fully discern what everything is.

Being in the body and all, your main line of travel is through a long blood vessel that runs from your left arm through the heart and stomach to the brain. Being in a blood vessel means that there are walls and your field of movement is almost entirely moving up and down. Luckily you don't die if you hit the walls. You just lose control of your ship for a second as it bounces off. After each 'level' you reach an organ. This organ could be considered the boss battle. You basically have to destroy something in that organ so you can proceed. In the heart, it's the blue stuff that reminds me of mucus that's blocking the way out.

There are no bombs in Bio Attack, just a regular un-upgradable shot. The only sort of interesting feature is how you will move faster through the bloodstream if you are farther up on the screen. Think Shippu Mahou Daisakusen. Going slow lets you dodge carefully, but uses up more oxygen, which is basically a timer, since you can't refill it except between levels.

What I learned playing Bio Attack: If I ever have high blood pressure then it's because my heart is infested with little microscopic frogs.
So what do you guys think of it? It's still early enough that I could accept suggestions without needing to change too much.

EDIT: Sorry for temporarily hijacking the thread. I didn't feel this was big enough to deserve it's own thread.

Image

in november 1983 a special corner called SUPER SOFT MAGAZINE with arcade games guide and strategies appear on micom magazine. In january 1984 appear also a hi-score corner from game center and this section called CHALLENGE HIGH SCORE!

about micom score, there are 2 different lists.

Now, this has been a long time hasn't it?

I wanted to ask you guys a serious question. I've picked the blog back up again and am revisiting the old stuff before thrusting forwards. I've reached the point where it went funky and the twingalaxies thing kicked off.

Thing is, I was never the twingalaxies whore that you guys thought I was, I was just friendly with Walter, who as I've maintained is a cracking guy. Anyway, he isn't directly involved anymore so it's a moot point all the same.

What I wanted to ask - where would I find the "true" records for the shooters, where would be my best resource other than here? I would love to investigate how the Asian scores weigh up for shooters especially and would like to reflect that in the blog.
