It shouldn't bother me as much as it does, but the whole contingent of Americans that claim TG is the be-all, end-all of records drive me insane. There's endless proof of astounding runs done by overseas players that have spent so much of their lives mastering specific games, sacrificing all sorts of important social and sexual activity to perfect their game, then some honky shits out some 1 million Raiden Fighters score and is deemed the king. I think the time is ripe for a nerd civil rights movement.

I'm seriously tempted to grab tripletgalaxies.com and start a parody site with ridiculous submission rules, effectively giving myself world champion status at every game ever. I bet I could keep it going for at least a year before running out of jokes too.

I still say that each of us claims an arcade game with a record on Twin Galaxies and then we all shit on their "World record" scores simultaneously. And then laugh at how flawed their record books are.

No, it's more that they grossly ignore the rest of the world. And even within the US, they do a lousy job with most games. Part of it is their nonsensical rules. I don't know if they're still like this, but last I heard they insist on getting a VHS capture... Nothing DVD or otherwise digital.

Cool (if you're serious). I've been thinking about doing it but it's quite the task, and first I'd need to come up with a list of them (this thread stops at '88 unfortunately). I think it would be a good idea to just make 1 thread for each year and update as you play them. The board could use some better, more interesting threads like that. There's plenty of underexposed/unmentioned shooters.

I was half kidding, half serious, as I really liked the idea... but I wouldn't like to do it alone... I already have to many "side-projects" in my life

either that or I should do it very slowly I guess...

Do you want it arcade only, or include exclusive home releases too? If so then it would be like a HUGE task.

Just arcade. If someone wants to showcase a console/home computer that could be its own thread. Yeah, I think it'd be best if someone/anyone would just pick a single year and try it out and see if we can cover these less talked about years' games. I'm playing through NES shooters at the moment (craaap).

actually i don't disregard Rockwaldo's achievement at all...

i coudn't care less if he's going for a "real world-record" - he's challenging the records in that particular book and that's totally fine with me

as for me i'm trying to beat my own highscores, my friend's, the ones on a single arcade-cabinet in my neighborhood, your's posted here - or whatever line i could find to possibly cross

so let everyone (including Rockwaldo) put up his own goals: be it beating world records or wus' records

after all i like to read impressions of games from the past by someone of today - and imho he writes in a quite entertaining way

How much credibility does TG have? Are there a lot of people that consider it a reputable, definitive source? Obviously it's a joke around here, but this is the only board I read.

Sod it that sounds like fun so I am going to make an video on all 11 of the shmups released in the arcades at 1998 tommorow acording to MAME32 0.98. Only eleven were released but there were some real classics of the gender released that year!...
