That's just great, now we can verse THE HARDEST VIDEO GAME BOSS EVER on a PC!
It seems the actual game speed is way improved, too bad there's still no sound though. From the author's comment there I think we can safely assume that even as is it runs better by itself than when recording it.

Anyone who even vaguely suggests that emulating Futari might be naughty should receive a permanent ban

Did they just skip right past the first Mushi? I was wanting a more accurate version of it.

Re: Too close for comfort? the revival?
No, those games aren't all dumped. Something was lost in translation. He just meant the emulation of that hardware works. If all those games were dumped you would see him posting videos of them.
Re: Too close for comfort? the revival?
Nah, it's been dumped already. Saves me the effort really, it was always my first priority. I still want to buy one of the PCBs but it's difficult to find a reliable/convoluted proxy these days.evil_ash_xero wrote:Did they just skip right past the first Mushi? It's actually pretty easy to dump the program and graphics ROMs on the CV1000B boards, you don't even need to desolder the chips. The only thing standing in the way of emulation is the Yamaha APU.
<RegalSin> It does not matter, which programming language you use, you will be up your neck in math.

Re: Too close for comfort? the revival?
I hope it's the bug fixed Mushihime-Sama that's been dumped, seeing as CAVE themselves doesn't fix these should you get hold of a PCB that's non-fixed.

Re: Too close for comfort? the revival?
Uh, virtually nobody is set up with customized JTAG hardware to read out the graphics and program so saying that's easy etc. is arrogantly retarded. You still won't have the sound dumped, so it's incomplete. If you're desoldering the sound chips already then it doesn't make any difference to do the others, they are in the same package size. There has been no proof that the sound chips don't ever vary between revisions beyond people guessing that Cave always just used JTAG only to update revisions and never manually updated the sound chips. It's just a guess. The only way to be sure is to read them all out. And if you "accidentally" figure out how to reprogram games as other games with a JTAG setup by altering the custom chip(s) you will ruin the value of all the expensive Cave boards.
And no it's not the bug fixed version that is dumped. It's the first release. You can tell in the video when it boots up there are no periods in the version line.

Re: Too close for comfort? the revival?
You think so, right? A couple of lines in Verilog for a $59 FPGA board or a PC's parallel port is sufficient. Most people here have the latter. Calm down or at least learn some manners, please.Uh, virtually nobody is set up with customized JTAG hardware to read out the graphics and program so saying that's easy etc. is arrogantly retarded.
Like I said, program ROM and graphics. I have an idea for the sound ROM, but it will involve some patch-wiring.You still won't have the sound dumped, so it's incomplete.
By custom chips you mean the CPLD and FPGA, right kid? Heh. The intent is to dump, not to reprogram the boards anyway. And if you "accidentally" figure out how to reprogram games as other games with a JTAG setup by altering the custom chip(s) you will ruin the value of all the expensive Cave boards.

Re: Too close for comfort? the revival?
You're saying that basically anyone could buy this cheap Verilog and plug it into an SH3 board and read them out in a few minutes?
Re: Too close for comfort? the revival?
No, Verilog is a hardware description language. An FPGA is reconfigurable chip with an array of gates and many pins you can use for your own purpose, using Verilog for example. Once I have a board, I can confirm that my code is working. As long as people follow my wiring instructions and have a FPGA, they can dump the ROMs through RS-232.anyone could buy this cheap Verilog and plug it into an SH3 board and read them out in a few minutes?
The parallel port method is easier for anyone who can use soldering iron and who has the right header (50c from an electronics store). It's much slower of course.
That said, I don't intend to release these instructions/code, it's for my own use. That is, until the time is right. The goal is to have an easy path for people to send in their unique revision, bar any changes to the sound ROMs. In fact, unless someone gives me a board, (it's that hard to get one of these damn things, HK Legend doesn't even respond to my emails) I will probably just going to focus on the emulation side of things, in the small amount of spare time I have these days.

Well I hope you don't release anything that can lead to reprogramming games or the market is shot. Getting boards is easy. Paying for them is not.

I would never do such a horrible thing. Do I look like a schump? I'd definitely keep all the profit for myself.Muchi Muchi Spork wrote:Well I hope you don't release anything that can lead to reprogramming games or the market is shot

That is the thing, I had paid for a board earlier with some proxy and the money was refused without explanation. Then the auction was over. I don't need that kind of agitation, my time isn't free.Muchi Muchi Spork wrote:Getting boards is easy. Paying for them is not

And you'd have to wait until there were good dumps for all of the boards or risk the chance that a certain board might be driven to "extinction"austere wrote:I would never do such a horrible thing. Re: Too close for comfort? the revival?
That happened to me once but not on a Cave board. You can request that they use an alternate bidder ID but those are pretty much known now too. Some Japanese sellers don't want their items leaving Japan is the reason. But anyway you will spend more time waiting for a more sure solution by not trying auctions at all than you will getting rejected every once in a while.

Re: Too close for comfort? the revival?
Mushihime-tama right? I've already hoarded a whole room of them in preparation. I was only joking (now and before) by the way. I have to say this, just for the record, because some people are known to take things too literally.Barrakketh wrote:And you'd have to wait until there were good dumps for all of the boards or risk the chance that a certain board might be driven to "extinction"
Yeah, it's that kind of provincial retardation that really repulses me. The Japanese always make it hard to trade with them. Thanks for the link though. No doubt I will have to pay 4 middle men and take one out to a French restaurant just to get the damn board on my desk.Muchi Muchi Spork wrote:Some Japanese sellers don't want their items leaving Japan

Only some of them are like that. Seems long engrained http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Ships
With Celga you'll have to pay extra fees and use their custom conversion rate. With Tops there shouldn't be any middle men unless you count Paypal.

If you ask that question on the Demul English Forum (and believe me I have) they just steal all your cattle and burn your ranch down.Jockel wrote:Still no progress?![]()

It's so close you can see up it's nose and watch it's emulated nostril hairs twitch.

Kind of cool. We've now got videos of Espgaluda II, Ibara, Futari, and Death Smiles with working sound.

Re: Too close for comfort? the revival?
That is pretty neat. Within the next couple of months I hope to possibly get hold of the Xbox 360 port of ESPGaluda II and if this comes out I can compare how well its emulated against eachother.
Speaking of which, can anyone tell at the moment how well the slowdown is being emulated? I realise the guy says FRAPS recording is having an effect on how its going but there still seems to be some slowdown shown in a couple of parts, whereas there's a bit more slowdown at the boss in other videos of it compared to the Demul run? Its a bit hard to tell but it generally seems to be running a lot better than the Deathsmiles with sound vid, which had no slowdown at all and broken music.

Well not hard to understand. Sure the 360 ports been out awhile. But if people see you can play them on your pc I can understand CAVE to want to take down does videos.Skykid wrote:Someone's pissed."Cave Arcade Mushihime-sam..."

Personally I think it's to early to let roms of Futari and Deathsmiles out. But I think it's cool they emulated the games so well and are happy if I can play them on my computer in some years.
