Yes, their scoring systems are kinda based on the excellent show Justified. 8)

I have no clue whether to buy this or not. I think i'm going to wait until some of your guinea pigs get it.

I didn't hear many good things about it, from those who played the PCB. However, I HEAR that the one or two people who played the "consumer" version, said that it was better balanced, and that extra stage could solve it's "this is way too short" problem.

The graphics are beautiful, as are the designs.

Oh right. Never seen that TV show before, though I do kinda see the similarities in the pictures.

I don't see any similarities, but she reminds me of Lightning from FF13.

Smoke weed and squint-look at both of the faces at the same time and you'll see it.

Is she supposed to look like the boy or the girl?

Oh my god they are both generic anime faces without any distinctive features at all!

(nb: I'm not anti-anime and I actually dig the art for this game :))

I believe they're meant to be both. This is why you smoke weed and squint.

Or maybe he's not just referring to the pictures but the character's nature as well, in which case I can't really comment because I haven't seen the TV show nor played Akai Katana to compare characteristics.

It's a good thing then, isn't it? ;) You're basically Gordon Freeman in every shmup game: a silent protagonist whose personality is defined solely by his actions.

Then again, princess Reco would probably be a candidate for personality.

Yet Gordon Freeman has a tendency to score really high on all those GameFAQs character battles. One of the most uninteresting game protagonists ever designed. :)

I just want my shmup characters/vehicles to look awesome, and that's it.

I stand corrected...

Never really looked closer at that pic, it is highly disturbing (even if it's not unlikely)
I'm glad they decided to give her a reduction with the sequel, it seems to fit the style of the game a lot better :P

It looks a lot like the cover of the first game, didn't notice it wasn't the same.
Where exactly is the image taken from?

:-P

On a serious note: I think the images are also available at cave's homepage, but I'm not sure about this.

^hasn't played enough Batrider, Gunbird, or Shikigami series.

Akai Katanas art is nicely done but incredibly generic. I much prefer the weirder side of CAVE illustrated in Galuda, MMP, PS, and even <gasp> Deathsmiles...

I am a bit confused here

So HD visuals are exclusive to the 16:9 SHIN mode, the 4:3 original game is lowres visuals only?

Isn't SHIN mode exactly the same as the original/arcade mode, EXCEPT with the extra stage, HD graphics and 16:9 aspect? (let's not consider slowdown emulation at this point) - in that case it would only make sense to keep the original mode exactly as the original, including the graphics resolution - like they did with DeathSmiles.

I'm pretty sure some of the game mechanics are changed as well.

We don't really know the details, and with another mode (Zetsu) announced it's a given one of them at least will have different gameplay (it'd mirror DSII quite nicely too)... but if I can read Japanese correctly there's a stream planned in the future, so we can put a rest to idle speculation soon :)

It's not Zoe Boyle, but Molly C. Quinn. She plays the character Alexis, the daughter of Richard Castle from the show, Castle on ABC.
