And that's why some players (including myself) like Raizing style rank systems. And that's the reason why this game will appeal to some, and will be loathed by others.

Which is a shame really, since Ibara is such a brilliant game. What'll humor me more is that this will probably be the first Cave game that gets more hate than love from shmuppers around the globe.

Although, how is "playing for score" counterintuitive? You stil have to score to get lives in other games, it's just a lot more important in Garegga and Raizing games.

To quote myself, from a post earlier in the thread:
Icarus wrote:I have this weird feeling that Ibara will become the new Garegga. Much loved by some, much hated by others, for all the same reasons that follows every Garegga discussion/debate.
And a quote from Yoda ;)
In The Empire Strikes Back, Yoda said, not wrote:You must unlearn that what you have learned.

btw, Icarus. play garegga and set it to no extends. see how that affects the rank. I'm guessing it waters it down a LOT...

I have the Chinese revision of Garegga. No Extends (except the one on stage 3). It doesn't water it down that much TBH, just a slightly less rapid increase. You still have to play with intermediate rank control methods.

If anything, it's like a cross between Garegga and Raiden DX.

Just seen this on another shumups forum, quite a fun discription on the behaviour of the bosses. :D

Here is the translation:

After playing the game for a while, I found that quite a lot radom patterns in this game.... Women are really hard to predit.

1. The 4 little connons on the Stage 1 Boss behave according to the mood of the little girl. But there is no big deal even all the two wind-wheel shooting at the same time.

2. The first mode of the Stage 2 Boss is ... really masterius, she charge you right in the beginning when she like to do so, sometimes she even did this twice without firing a shot.

3. For the last mode of the Stage 2 Boss, there is a chance that the boss would be able to reach to the buttom of the screen even through you are firing the "hyper connon" at her. She finish you with a point blank range shot when she reach the bottom.

4. If the Stage 3 Boss love you, she would open fire with all her guns right in the beginning (2 sword aiming shots + 2 big neddle shots + 1 'ambusing'sword aiming shot + 2 small neddle shots). And may be she would decide open fire with how many guns according to how much she love you...

(Where is point 5?!?!)

6. If the Stage 3 Boss really wish you to stay, her last mode would firing at you like mad, even if you shoot her three times with the "hyper connon"... she is still not willing to leave you.

(still more to go... I won't post this pessage if I know that would be so much work...)

Yeah, I've noticed all those. The Rose girls are quite vindictive, vicious and unpredicatable. Occasionally I can no-miss Meidi without problems. Occasionally Meidi kicks me in the nuts and laughs when I'm down.

Rank definitely plays a huge part in the bosses' selection of attack patterns. Trying to keep rank down is a bit of a challenge. If anything, you're forced to keep only Machine Gun and Gatling if you want to stay alive, but you often need Rocket and Five Way just to give you extra power against bosses.

I also think that the personality of the Rose girls plays a big part in their attack selections, as you have rightly translated. Some of them tend to stick around, even when you are pummeling them with the hadou, some love to attempt to ram into you, some use one type ofattack, some use all their weapons at once.

Ack, I need my capture card sorted so I can get some footage of the game done. :?
