Capisce? On your best behavior now, ladies and gents. Also, port quality is fair game for discussion, but let's get the discussion back onto the Pink Sweets + MMP package in particular, shall we?

I thought I would mainly like Muchi Muchi Pork, but Pink Sweets Arrange may be the best thing on the disc, imo.

Lovin that fucking x64 combo.

I must be playing completely wrong, though, as the rank NEVER rises. At first I thought there just wasn't rank, but then I noticed a tiny sliver of orange at some point.

I spent some time with PS Arrange today after having been playing MMP mostly since my copy arrived. I think I'll end up liking it more than PS 1.01, but I still want to get a better feel for the original Arcade game (err, something that at least mostly resembles it) before I delve into the arrange modes.

As for MMP, I think I'm going to be stuck on stage 4 for a while. That boss is nuts! Rafute is my favorite to play so far in 1.01.

Same here. Pink Sweets unadulterated simplicity is a breath of fresh air at a time when Cave's modern games are becoming ever more convoluted (gameplay wise). It's quickly turning into one of my favourite ever Cave titles. I was genuinely looking forward to Pork more, but it just isn't grabbing me the way PS is. Better presentation in PS too IMO - better music, better graphics, etc. It has one of the best Cave arrange modes I've played too. Really simple to grasp, true to the spirit of the arcade mode(s).

They needn't have wasted time making the arrange soundtracks though. Complete and utter dross.

Do you guys think this game will have any chance of selling out and not having another printing? I missed DOJBLEX and can't find it anywhere that's not ridiculous. (But now it is emulated pretty well so there is that)

DOJBLEX is sort of a special case - it went out of print only a few months into its release, possibly in part due to the code stealing scandal.

Honestly, the more I read about Pink Sweets the more convoluted it sounds, to the point where I don't think I'll even play it for 1CCs- rather, I'll play it as balls to the wall as possible. Like, apparently you're not supposed to use the rose cracker at all. Fuck that, I love that motherfucker. We'll see how I feel about it all as I go on. I do agree about the graphics though. I'm surprised with just how many fucking enemies are in the game; it's absolutely absurd. And then when you get farther in, it just turns into a huge fucking mass of explosions. I love it.

I really, really love the first track of Pink Sweets arrange, but I don't remember any of the other tracks in either game, really. So score one for PSA, I guess, unless the song's mostly the same in both versions. I love that piano bit.

The only thing I miss about Pink Sweets Arrange is the lack of medaling. Man, I love rushing for those medals. Still, the absurd amount of bullet cancel medals makes up for it. I just wish they'd increase in size somehow as you got more: I'm a sucker for shinies.

Really just loving how much it reminds me of Battle Bakraid. I got into it in preparation for this release, and I'm glad my excitement paid off. I fucking love Pink Sweets Arrange.

Well, when I downloaded the top scoring arcade mode replay a few days ago (it might not be 1st place now), the guy uses the rose cracker all the time from about stage 4 onwards (he uses the 3rd character - the one with the rose cracker that travels the full height of the screen). Probably not the best method for scoring, but it looked like a good method for survival.

Anyone managing to get the stage 3 1-up in Pink Sweets?

Quote from the strategy guide:
Let one of the big tanks roll over a standing tank. This is possible in Stage 3 and twice in Stage 7. Damage the wheels of the first tank and then let the second one roll over it.

It's clear enough but I haven't managed this once! I'm thinking that I'm too powered up or something as usually I just destroy the tank completely, but only when it's come to a stop.

I'm loving Pink Sweets 1.01 - actually playing it more than pork which is weird - who knew.

I read that as well in Plasmo's guide and it kinda threw me off too. Here's the thing though, if you limit your use of it and/or wait to get Rose Hips until later in the game, it won't get balls to walls hard so quickly. Then the last few stages pretty much require using it all the time.

Don't forget to cancel the shield with speed up/down, thanks Dave K. for that tip.

Who cares if they didn't release the game you wanted before the games you didn't want, or didn't make a fucking menu to your high and mighty standards. You aren't their only customer. People do this shit with XBLA games all the time on xbox forums, it makes you sound like a damn child. Both games look very good if you turn off the smoothing and I've played it on 4 TVs in my house with absolutely no problems whatsoever.

I think I got the stage 3 1-up last night by accident, messing around with barely-charged shield blasts. Had no idea how I had triggered it...

I just watched a video on YouTube that shows how and where to get it, search for "Pink Sweets arcade mode early attempt" or something. Not sure if it's any harder in 1.01 though.

It's exactly the same in 1.01 - just immobilize the first tank that comes in, then when the second tank rolls over it a 1-up will appear. Though it might be "harder" in the sense that enemies have less health so it's easier to accidentally destroy the tank.

Back to the whining :D
My Swine Bundle arrived today and so did a UPS charge for 52.50, which is fair....if you're importing a Ferrari 456, but maybe not for a part-shipment of Swine and Ketsui.

agreed. had mine shipped via EMS, arrived just now with no charges. i learned my lesson with UPS many moons ago  contact them and bitch until your face is blue, they'll give in. just explain that you as the receiver did not sign any contracts to have them act as the ones legally responsible for clearing the package and keep at it.

anyways, love these games! MMP is as great as i remember, and i'm seriously getting into pink sweets! really feels like recca, just a bunch of fun. i don't even know if i'm playing right, i'm just collecting bullets and using the bomb and it's way too fun!

Wait, what. I've been out of the loop for a bit and haven't played DS NA in a really long time, they fixed the slowdown??

Regarding port complaints...I've been spoiled since Futari, I'm disappointed every time M2 doesn't do a Cave port :p

is the second disc of anybody's soundtrack messed up as well? the track breaks are totally at the wrong time on mine - track 1 goes all the way up into halfway into track 2, then track 2 starts, etc. it only gets more messed up from there on!

EDIT: disregard, my disc drive just decided to read the wrong track lengths

Is there any other cave port without an attract mode?
I wonder if they do things like that to differentiate between the pcb.
Why change the font for item points. haha oh well.

Deathsmiles IIX lacks a traditional attract mode entirely (instead there's a long story narration before the title screen). Guwange is the same deal as Pork/Sweets, where the PCB's attract mode is only visible under the main and display settings menus.

I read on Cave STG about an MMP & PS premium theme. It looks cool, anyone know when it's supposed to be out on the Japanese marketplace?

Thanks for reminding us. For the millionth time.
???? That's the only time in this thread that I mentioned I had the PCB as far I can recall. It wasn't some ploy to showboat what I have, I was just trying to explain why I'm not broken up more over MMP's issues vs Pink Sweet's. Christ... talk about walking on egg shells in here.

If my owning a MMP PCB get's you bitter stay away from Super Pang's posts. I've stared in awe at the picture of his shelf loaded with cave cardboard several times.
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

they prolly lost the font file or something, there was that interview a while ago where if they have to get something from their old games they go out and buy the pcb.

this is a really great bundle...

I just received it this morning, I bought it without knowing really much about either, but Pink Sweet seems pretty dope to me. Had quiet a laugh with MMP too. Gonna try it more seriously tonight.

I tried Fedex for the first time, and it's the first time I've never had any tax/handling racket money/additional fee. So far if I use airmail I have a 100% rate of control at customs to pay tax (I'm entirely fine with this) but also paying a huge "process" fee that is always three times the tax, it's a fucking racket. I ordered once with UPS and it happened too.

Might be different in your country though.

Re: Stage 3 1-up - thanks for the info.

I'm managing to get it most of the time now, I was trying to get it on the wrong tanks (the first group of four on the left). I'd watched a replay on Youtube and that seemed to be where it was triggered - it's not. It's on the yellow tanks heading diagonally up/right later in the stage.

This game is great! Both of them have so much charm, I'd take this package over a few other cave ports (DFK 1.5 I'm looking at you).

I'm inclined to agree. I wasn't expecting these to be anywhere near as good as they are. DKF1.5 kept me interested for a while, but the first 4 Stages were just so easy for survival, beyond the beauty was somewhat of a snooze-fest. MMP has such addictive scoring, I just love vacuuming those gold pig heads! Pink Sweets is brutal, but fun, unlike Ibara was for me - which was brutal and frustrating.

This is quickly becoming one of my top 360 releases, with or without a patch.
