Also for a balls to the walls hard shooter from the start you can try on your PC: Radio Zonde. It's a danmaku with not too much firepower (depending of the ship) and surviving one stage is hard enough.

I hate people who call 1st loop of DOJ too easy

rocketassistedkea,
if you are avoiding Deathsmiles because of it's "easy reputation", you should know that there is custom difficulty settings which can can chosen per stage (1-3 rank), AND in Black Label (which is included in the US and JP Platinum releases) there is a rank 999 for freaks such as yourself.

My experience with Mame on Macs has been so-so. My newish Intel iMac is running MameOSX which seems to include the roms, but barely any of them boot (probably a work-around I'm not aware of). My best Mame setup is actually with an older G5 iMac running the outdated MacMame. Got most Psikyo, Raising, and older CAVE titles very stable with that.

What's a Euroshmup these days? I remember euroshmups back in the early/mid '90s...even one from the late '90s on ps1; they were all shit. Although I'd better qualify that by saying...I hear there are SOME good ones, i.e; Z-out, Einhander. Seems only the Germans know how to make a good shmup, in Europe...and they do that by learning from Japanese shmups.
Anyways. What do I know...I'm so far out-of-touch these days; it's no joke.

If it helps, chempop; I found diaoujou to be completely unplayable, unless it was in front of a big tv, and squatting on the ground right in front of it;0) In this case; size really does matter...it got easier again; playing on a friend's giant t.v. But that's Danmaku for you. They're probably in secret collusion with giant t.v makers.

Hey...what other shooters out there, give the player instant control over slowdown-like in 1945? I can get up to the final boss on hard and very hard...but can't beat him [and see no point stressing about it, as finishing it on normal didn't unlock any extra settings, or anything]. Even getting there, was only possible due to time-manipulation. It's insanely fun, and a great idea...actually; I wish it was some kind of standard.

I'll pick up Deathsmiles one day, for sure...as I will every decent shmup I can find. I'll be a collector, and even buy a decent arcade cabinet for my 360. Probably; a Japanese 360 too (I'm contemplating doing just that now, instead of paying the NZ$200 [which is close enough to a US$200 these days]; to fix my '360). EDGE did a great write-up on it...but then, I'm sure they'd give any Cave game equal praise. Given a choice, all these games being roughly equal; I'd go for a Ketsui...simply for the realistic[ish] military aesthetics. But if I HAVE to choose between fairies/dolls/toys/transexualfairieswithextraordinaryhyperbeams...there's nothing there to choose from for me; so I'll pick the game with the best replay value. And from my experiance...they tend to be the one's that are the trickiest [whilst remaining fair].
I mean, DOJ got much of it's reputation as a great game from it's difficulty...yes? No way to cancel bullets...you just have to find a way through. That element alone, concerns me a little about Pink Sweets...it MIGHT end up being a kind of block-em-up; like Grid Seeker.

Regards all.

Even if the enemies speak german - Einhänder is no Euro-shmup. Till today it is the only game
I ever bought from Square - obviously I ´m no fan of RPG´s.

How about a shmup with spoken Italian in it in the future ??

The best shmup ever made in Europe is Uridium 2, and that wasn't made in Germany, and it certainly wasn't inspired by any game made in Japan. The only European developer making interesting/innovative shmups these days is Llamasoft. Innovating in very different ways from the Japanese, but every bit as sophisticated/deep. Although if you don't like trippy visuals you'll be left feeling cold. If you don't beleive me, ask the Japanese - they dominate the top of Llamasoft's XBLA game Space Giraffe.

The trouble with Amiami is that they don't guarantee you get the DLC card (unless you buy the Ltd Edition).

That is good to know.

For muchi pork, there is no dlc to worry about. He'll be safe for this one. Besides, I like getting the limited editions so I'm fine.

According to Cave-STG there *will* be a DLC card with 1st-prints for this release:

http://www.cave-stg.com/?p=438

Which is why amiami specifically state on their website that any pre-order bonus items will be first come first served. In other words - no guarantee that you'll get a card unless you order the Ltd Edition.

How have people from the UK found amiami? Has anyone ever been stung with duties ordering from them? If so, how much?

How much cheaper are they than videogameimports (if you include the possible duty-stinging)? I've never been disappointed in vgi, and I will probably never switch to another place of purchase.

Before p&p:

Standard Edition ~ VGI = £60.99 | amiami = £43.72
Ltd Edition ~ VGI = ??? | amiami = £56.52

VGI haven't listed a price for the LE yet, but as you can see, a big difference in price with the SE. It all comes down to whether or not you're likely to get stung by import duties. In the UK, it's pretty much a lottery depending on where you live. When I used to live in the South East I got stung most times, but where I'm living in the North West now, I've never once had to pay duties. If you live in a safe spot then the only good reason to order from VGI is if you want it quick, but that's quite a margin to pay for impatience.

Oops...I knew that....Einhander's by Square.....b
I knew it was only a matter of time, before I said something stupider than usual. Must have confused myself with; Himmelsturmer.

Neat...I've added Iridium 2, and Llamasoft [any company with 'Llama' in the title, has to be good], to my list of over 70! must-play shmups. Hopefully, sometime later this year...I'll be in shmup heaven. Not Space Giraffe though; as I personally don't like that kind of tunnel shooter. But trippy graphics? Yes please! Looks like the iphone/itouchmyself is rapidly becoming a must-own, for shmups alone.
Wonder what's next? The irug, probably. You can play your favourite shmup whilst almost passed-out, in a pool of your own vomit. Neat.

I also love the sound of some of these retro/8-bit plus special-effects type DIY shooters. Seriously, if anyone has a ps3...try out; Gravity Crash...there must be a thousand user-designed levels by now [though unfortunately, no ranking for which are the best ones]. The potential for diabolical tunnels, full of devious traps and enemys are almost endless. Great stuff...a throwback to what shmups used to be, before R-type/Gradius e.t.c.
I've long thought, the best shmup [yet to be made], would have forced-scrolling...but a way to turn round [slowly, aka Un Squadron], and infiltrate underground bases....a kind of free-roaming horizontal shooter, that's still balls-to-the-wall/bullet hell. Combine it with a way to manipulate slowdown, like 1945...and wow. Think a cross between UN squadron/gravity Crash/danmaku...witha weapons system like Thunderforce/RS. I wonder if anyone's yet made something like that? Cybernator on the SNES wasn't too far off...but was STUPIDLY easy. Heaps of fun though.
 P.s; finally finished 1945 on hard...though I got pretty lucky, a few times. A much better game than I remember, actually. I also finished in on monkey...just to prove it could be done....b

...what....?

Does the idea of playing my awesome multi-directional mega grand-theft shmup, curled up on your new irug[tm]...in a pool of your own vomit, shivering, not appeal to you?
It too, like 1945; would come with a 'monkey' difficulty setting...for moments like that, thus: you could place your new [heated] 3-d irug at the base of the toilet, and play there...

Of course; I expect the irug to be stain resistant, and non-absorbant...kind of goes without saying.

Anyway, back on topic, I guess...

Iridion 2 was in fact a GBA game.
You're thinking of Nanostray 1 & 2, which were also made by shin'en.

Oh yeah, that's the one. It's funny because I originally typed "GBA" then had a quick think to myself then retyped it as DS.

Not sure I'll like these arrange modes...

Muchi's looks similar to DFKBL, with the rank bar at the top and the bullet cancelling.

Not too sure what's going on in Pink Sweet's. Bombing adds to the multiplier and produces medals?

Still not sure whether to get this pack yet...
Is it just me, or do both games have possibly the most annoying voices in any game ever? Maybe it's just the youtube/nico videos.
(I know that you'll probably be able to turn the voices off btw)
